Action-Adventure Terminator: Dark Fate

Well Dark Fate was the only one he really had any say in post-T2 and by all accounts just fought with Tim Miller for most of it.

I know he said his idea would go in a completely different direction (ie not a chase movie) so why not?

I'll say what I always say every single time they take another bite at this rotten apple:

Unless Cameron is D I R E C T I N G, its absolutely dead on arrival, just like all the rest.

At this point they might as well get M Night to direct one of these. The twist - you find out in the end that the 'evil' terminator they have been running from the whole movie is actually a good guy resistance fighter sent back to kill the protagonist who turns out to be responsible for Skynet in the future.

For the love of God, whatever they do, please don’t try and shoehorn Arnie into it as a 90yr old aged Terminator who’s picked up some comedy chops since fulfilling his original mission to murder a young boy in cold blood.

These Terminator reboots keep failing because they keep getting bogged down by the time travel and the timelines and forgot what made Terminator successful in the first place.

The first two movies were firmly anti-war. That is an important aspect that the previous failed reboots have missed out on.

The story and themes of Terminator have never been more relevant than right now. What was science fiction in 1984, has basically become our reality today.

Nobody would suspect the elderly of being a cybernetic organism sent back from the future to assassinate someone. Nobody would suspect an 80 year old geriatric Arnie, he's the perfect infiltration unit!

Yeah as much as it pains me to say it, it's time to move on from Arnold. Whether that be a reboot or another sequel.

Cameron's involvement intrigues me though.

Eh let me see first what the plan is, then we talk.
Who knows, the game was fun, the Netflix anime looks like it could be good, might strike the iron while its hot and do a new movie.

But i need to see what the idea is before i can say more.
I think the IP does have life in it, you just gotta find the right thing to do with that.

I dont want Arnie back in this ever...let the man do King Conan and stop putting him in Terminator.
Other than that, lets see what the idea is first.

I would go a step further and say just let it go and make something else. Terminator had its run. Let it go

I would say the same thing about Ghostbusters and yet they're still making em.

Ghostbusters at least was moderately successful. Afterlife was at least. On top of being terrible, the Terminator films have been failures financially. Just let it die

Not really.

Afterlife made $200 million WW

Frozen Empire also made $200 million WW

Genisys made $440 million WW

Dark Fate made $260 million WW

And keep in mind Dark Fate was rated R...

Also what's funny is the female Ghostbusters movie made more than the previous two. lol

You have to factor in budget. Afterlife cost 75 mil, and I think Frozen Empire was 100. Terminator Dark Fate on the other hand, was about 185 mil and Genisys was 155. Not great numbers for the Terminator films, and not really for Frozen Empire either. But Afterlife did just fine for its budget.

Genisys made more of a profit than Afterlife.

And Dark Fate was critically more successful than both Ghostbusters movies. And for my money, it's a much better movie than watching overload nostalgia bait for two movies.

The overall point I'm trying to make is it's funny this series gets more scrutinized when Ghostbusters is doing the same thing.

As I like to say when presented with "Yeah but why isn't X getting scrutinized" if you're on trial for murder and your defense is "Your honor, I may be on trial for murder. But Person X killed way more people, so I am innocent" that doesn't work. What another person does doesnt change what you may or may not be guilty of. Both can be failing franchises that need the Old Yeller treatment.

But clearly one gets special treatment and should be called out for it.

At the end of the day the Terminator franchise has two arguably three solid movies in the tank. Saying "stop doing more" is ridiculous.

If Cameron has something in mind, I would want to know more before telling him to stop.

They have 2 great movies, absolutely. And 4 garbage ones, and they haven't had a good one since the early 90s. Calling it quits isn't at all an overreaction. As for Cameron, he endorsed T3, Genisys, and Dark Fate. All sucked. So that doesn't mean anything at this point. As for Ghostbusters, is it getting special treatment? I dont see many calling for another sequel after Frozen Empire.

I don't really care about Ghostbusters but that was a franchise that laid dormant for what, 25 years? or more? Then the attempt at a soft reboot failed so they went back to milking the old films, but we're talking a few movies in recent times. The difference with Terminator to me at least is that they've gone back to that well and tried different things and it's always "we finally cracked the code" except it ends up a big let down. T3 basically did T2 again but "hey this time we're gonna end it on a bummer", T4 was all about "finally giving people what they want - the future war". T5 I don't even know what their grand plan was, "I guess we mined T2 enough how about going back to T1 and mining some nostalgia from that carcass?" and with T6 it was like "Oh I guess Sarah Connor was the key to unlocking this, guess we better bring Linda Hamilton out of retirement".

There might be some similarities between the two franchises but I guess for me Terminator not only has more movies but they've been trying to crack the code since 2003 with T3 and every new sequel it's like they reload and go again with a different angle trying to erase what came before. Like the last 2 Ghostbusters movies look bad but aren't they at least in the same continuity/universe? So it's like at least they're being bad but in the same continuity.
