Action-Adventure Terminator: Dark Fate

I'm part of the older generation or at least for T2 as I saw that in theatres as a kid. I enjoy this film but will be honest and admit that I didn't watch it in theaters...

I feel bad for the box office flop but I don't really regret what I did. The first two films are among my top favorite films of all time and while I do like T3, Salvation and Dark Fate to an extent..they probably arent even in my top 100!

T1 and 2 are classic masterpieces of cinema history while everything else is like big budget fan fiction films

I will say even though it's become old hat for most movies now,
the de-aging of Hamilton and the CG of young Furlong were pretty spot on. It really could have been from the 1991 flick.
Yeah, I said earlier that I just assumed it was old unused footage when I saw it. :D

1.The Terminator.
2.Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
3.Dark Fate.
4.Genisys.
5.Salvation.
6.Rise of the Machines.

Another Terminator underperforming... that was expected after Sarah Connor Chronicles, Salvation and Genisys. I don't know what were the major studios expected out of this.

As I said in my review the first 2 mins didn't bother me too much, even as someone who has been a fan of the franchise for over 30 years. If DF had come out a few years after T2, then yeah it would have, but almost 30 years later it doesn't bother me. Especially it can all be explained away through timelines, etc when we inevitably get the next re-boot/sequel.

What kind of justification would make you feel better about it.
they killed John Connor only to replace him with an inferior character that serves the same purpose and give Carl a reason to feel bad which isn't possible based on what's established in the previous films. I would have ditched the savior trope entirely if I was going to kill the savior of the franchise. Made the film more about taking personal responsibility based what you know is down the road, but it's frankly not my job to write their movie for them

The problem with any sequel to Terminator 2 is Terminator 2 wrapped this franchise up as well as you possibly could have for story involving time travel shenanigans. I think a proper sequel set during the future war with actual stakes is the only valid way to continue due to the causality loop established in the first film.

Same here. Anything can be changed by having a new good guy or Terminator going further back into the past to stop any particular event happening.

No fate but what you make

PRAISE:The movie hits the ground running with an amazing and relentless action sequence as once again from the future one is sent to protect Mackenzie Davis as Grace an enhanced cyborg, and one to kill Gabriel Luna as Gabriel / Rev-9, an advanced Terminator prototype. In this case their subject is Daniella "Dani" Ramos (Natalia Reyes) who may possibly be the key to stopping Terminators in the future.
Was it great to see Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger on the big screen together again...YES !! They bring so much to the table with humor and charisma.
The plot does attempt to bring something new to the Terminator table which i appreciated
Ramos did ok with her role and Davis always brings her A game.
The action sequences and CGI were on point for the most part

PROBLEMS:I couldnt fully get on board with some of the paths the story goes down.
Luna who was great as Ghost Rider in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D lacks prescense here.
Some of the CGI and SFX were choppy. It really makes me wonder if SFX crews meet up with the film editors and say well that's close enough but let's put more effort into this scene and not that one.
Do i want to see another Terminator film after this?....i dont know. They would have to get it back to that involving and creative movie that was T2:Judgement Day but after all these years and films it may not be possible.

Scale of 1-10 a 7½

Yeah this was bad I mean I had low expectations already but this was awful

1. why would you get Hamilton back for her to get berated by the "new girl' every chance she had I mean Grace was a **** to her from jump I get the first meeting but once sarah tells her who she is she still tells her later in the movie she wants to punch her in the face I hated that dynamic

2. so in a post survival of the fittest world a 5'1 little girl is the leader COME ON MAN you do what u did in the beginning for that okaayyyy (edit: had no idea Reyes is 32 still looks like teen a credit to her I guess}

3. Carl (WTF) while some lines were funny the concept was absurd so that whole Kyle Reese speech about a terminator not feeling pitty or remorse just goes out the window?

4. How did they stop judgment day then the new threat "Legion" very original name btw they design a terminator eerie similar to Skynet so how does that happen when Grace tells Sarah that she never heard of sky net or anything Sarah was telling them LAZY

I like the Rev 9 very cool terminator was wasted on a horrendous story

hopefully this the end of the terminator movies Linda Hamilton Deserved better T3 rise of the machines turns out to be the best sequel of this franchise GOOD JOB guys

Meh, I've not seen anyone in here for or against this film say anything about it that justifies its existence. I think I'll just bring out the T1 and T2 DVDs, and maybe the Sarah Conner Chronicles, and just appreciate the good things this franchise gave me.

Probably be the last big paycheck for Arnie and Linda. Arnold is a really nice guy if you've ever interacted with him on Reddit. He seems genuine.

He is, he knows where his bread is buttered regarding his fanbase. But not everything he's made has been a gem.

would like to see Arnold do some comedy work he is naturally funny
he recently told a story on lhow he funneled that "throw you mom of the train" script to Stallone cause he knew the movie would be awful I found the story hilarious

I would imagine this is officially the last terminator we’ll see for quite a while before the full blown remake10-15 years from now. Like the predator franchise last year its just time to put it to bed and move on as public interest just isn’t there.

Movies that try to capitalize on nostalgia all fall into the same trap of just retreading what the fanbase knows and expects or the basic checklist.

franchise’s in recent years that I can think of that have fallen victim to this:

terminator
Alien/ prometheus
Star Wars
Star Trek
Jurassic world
Predator
Robocop
All disney live action remakes

im sure Im forgetting others but its the same crap of retreading things we know instead of new creative ideas and new franchises. Marvel is the only studio the last ten years doing and trying new things.

I'm trying to think if there are any original movies coming out this month and all I can come up with is Queen and Slim and Knives Out which is technically Rian Johnson's Clue. We are on reboot/sequel/nostalgic rebootquel overload.

Hollywood just feels their safest bet is recognizable IPs even though many of them flop.

A lot of these franchises are just going to be run into the ground. Hollywood is content to milk every last dime until they run any once successful film series into the ground.

I'm curious to see how the third Jurassic World film does because people were already starting to get ticked off with the franchise after Fallen Kingdom.

Disney have said they are scaling back on Star War on the big screen. No more new films each year like they originally planed.

I would only be interested in another Terminator film if it is all set in the post apocalyptic hellscape of Cameron's T1 & T2. The Salvation/Genysis future looked lame.

I would only be interested in another Alien film if they do the Cold War colonists vs Corporations with Aliens type idea that Gibson had for his Alien 3 since that sounded sounded actually interesting.

Christian Bale at the height of his popularity couldn’t open this franchise in 2009. It’s dead.

I think at this point they’d pray for this to do “as well” as Terminator 3 or Salvation did a decade ago.

Last Christmas, Honey Boy, Ford V Ferrari, The Good Liar, Waves, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, 21 Bridges, Dark Water...

that’s why I question hollywood execs decision process, sure there are a lot of recognizable IP’s but what money is there to be made if they constantly bomb and loose money and the quality dips severely? I get Star Wars because that is garunteed atleast a billion each time out unless your solo but just show some creativeness. The last creative year hollywood saw was 1999, go look at the films that came that year my god.
