Not bad. I think something could be done with that.Imagine a t800 encased in a derelict building - it had been sent back in time like many others to assonate certain people - one was sent to JC, another some random dude in Asia, another in Europe - there were side stories which we never heard, this could be explored, but my story... this terminator is basically trapped so shuts himself off 'sleep mode' if you will.
Far into the future, after judgment day, after the war... humans won and life is very very different circa 2040/50... it's mildly recognizable but it's naturally different. It's calmer, cleaner, less negative, peace is the key, humans have finally learnt?
Some excavation of an old site, to rebuild reveals a familiar metallic endoskeleton arm.. it twitches as light hits it, dried blood shows its an injured arm, but not decomposed - it grabs the face of the worker, crushes his skull in a second, people jolt, scream, running away - out of the ashes rises an aged, but deadly t800. How do the community fight back in a world that has remembered the terror, but forgotten the plight.
What happens when a terminator wakes up to find his kind failed and he is the last. what do they do?
I can't call it 'terminator:reboot' can I, lol??
I see Davis has come out and said the sequels to Dark Fate would have explored different time lines. That could have been really interesting and it's a shame we won't get to see it.
Would have loved to see Skynet Vs Legion.
Maybe we see something similar in a TV show some day.
I've said this before, but if they want to continue telling stories in this world they need to move things forward. Show me what the future looks like down the line after humanity has won. Our relationship with tech has changed since the 80s. Play with that. Our view of good vs. evil has also changed. Play with that too.
I think there's more wiggle room in a Terminator-adjacent setting that gets into the legacy of it all. Kinda like HBO's Watchmen.
How much could you explore the timelines in general in TR?
Unless its about the War, what is there to explore really?
If you stop the terminator then live goes on either way, how would Dark Fate sequels even have explored the timelines more when we to begin with, dont have too much to go with?
Terminator for the most part is pretty tight contained with a Terminator going back in time to kill someone and another coming to stop that.
Other than that, you pretty much just have this idea of a War against machines etc.
But what else is there?
On that i thought Genisys had a cool idea with giving Skynet a form etc.
But to be fair, i dont remember much from Dark Fate so maybe they put more into the narrative to go forward.
Either a War or a post war movie yeah, but there is not much more you can do otherwise with it.
Now they tried a Alternative Timeline that didnt do anything really new.
I think John and Sarah have to remain inconspicuous, as they search for the origins of Skynet. Where did Sarah be made out to particularly be like that? How many times did it end in a warehouse, like that?I really didn't think it was that great. I refer to as Terminator: John has to go to school.
Why are they hanging out in suburban areas and not just continuing their training? Sarah was made out to be a bit of a dip **** and it just started to feel like every cheap TV series where it ends in a warehouse.
I'll give them some points for doing the future war scenes justice and sticking to the original look with their budget but as a whole the show was pretty rubbish. Imo of course
The guest pretty much is a remake of The Terminator and better than any of the sequels post T2I think at this point, if they want to move forward, it needs to be totally disconnected from previous movies.
It can be set in the 80s, they can have a t800 if needed.... but it needs wholly new original characters and I would stick to the formula of the first, small scale, suspense horror...
I have always said Henry Cavill would be an excellent T800. His topless JL scene against the leaguers shows this.
I would also have fun with it, have Henry play the human version too, throughout the movie the t800 learns more to be 'human like' so by the end, you kinda can't tell who is who.
Anyways... I feel like similar movies could be made, but it just feels 'easier' to slap the terminator tag on.
There were actual good ideas in Dark Fate and the final battle for me was pretty cool but there was just too much water under that bridge. The brand has been tainted beyond repare.
Dark Fate had good ideas. Those good ideas were just better when it was called The Terminator and T2: Judgement Day
I wouldn't say so. The idea of what happens to a Terminator after he... 'terminates' wasn't explored before. Granted I don't think they did a great job with it, but there was an interesting twist there to do something with.
I thought that sort of ruined the mystique of the Terminator, honestly. The Terminator is supposed to be something scary. Something you can't reason with or bargain with. Not some comedic robot. Hated it
