Terminator: Genisys - Part 3

The ending of this trailer makes me want to see the film... no better cliffhanger than not letting people know if Arnold "will be back" after "getting to da choppah"... :o
Arnold will keep coming back 'till he is over 100 years old, complete with sagging muscle, man-boob and in raspy voice intoned, for 1000th time "I'll be back".

Geez, I first saw Arnold in Conan The Barbarian (though I knew him well before from his exploits as Mr Universe/Mr Olympia) and he was so youthful and most importantly massive. He was one of the reasons why Terminator was so successful. Even my mother who doesn't usually watch action film enjoyed Arnold's turn as a killer robot.

I share your frustration. I love Terminator and am very protective of it but it is what it is. Most aren't aware of the plot (and won't be until they see the film) so all they have is a trailer to go by. It's Terminator Salvation all over again.

True mate , i have a feeling the younger crowd are gonna eat this up. Also shows Hollwoods state of filmaking over the last few years. People lapping this type of filmaking up are the ones responsible for films being generic in this modern age. This generation and the next generation is ****ed.

Also aint they making a trilogy with these films.

So it's Arnie Terminator from the first film verses Arnie Terminator from T2, have I got that right whilst battling a T-1000 and remaking the first two films in one, would that be about the nuts and bolts of it.... ?

The trailer didn't do much for me. However, I really like how the story overlaps the old time-line.

The acting looks horrible and miscast.

I will still go see as it looks like a good popcorn flic.

{Positives - It looks to have TEN times the action that boring Salvation had.

looking forward to it.

reminded me of the STAR TREK reboot time-line.

--The original timeline exists but it is altered in this one-----

T2 doesn't factor into this at all. It's basically... Kyle Reese arrives in 1984 but instead of finding the 1984 of the original film, he arrives in an altered timeline where Sarah has been raised by the Terminator since childhood, fully trained and has full knowledge of the future. That's the premise.

Not exactly. There will be one who was probably sent to protect a young Sarah Connor, hence his aging by time he battle Arnie Terminator from T1 (in this trailer his appearance seems similar to beginning of T1). So based on this film, T1 and T2, "old" Arnie is probably the third Terminator.

This film seems to take place around the event of the first Terminator film and probably before with younger Sarah Connor.

So basically this like the Star Trek reboot!

If this is a different timeline then surely John Connor's very existence is now questionable.

Dear god, why must this movie make me look like this unpleasable poster? I'm not that hard to please!

The film looks poor to me. The visuals look like every glossy action movie, the CGI looked suspect, the action looked pointlessly over the top and that Game of Thrones chick and Jai Courtney look miscast as ****.

....meh.

This just looks generic. Like ISS said, everything just looks glossy and too CGI.

The T-1000 looks like generic CGI and looked better in 1992. That shot of Arnold diving into the helicopter looks ridiculous. Nothing about Courtney did anything to change my mind about him being completely miscast. Even Jason Clarke as Connor, who was previously about the only part I thought might be sort of okay, seems....meh.

Cannot be a different timeline - it has to be a closed-loop timeline in order for the two 1984 storylines to converge, i.e. the 1984 event from T1 and the new 1984 event in this film. Closed-loop also implied no paradox, so nothing should happened to John Connor.

It also implied that every characters are stuck in this loop forever doing the same thimg over and over.

Multiple timeline would implied that JohnConnor died at some point - therefore avoiding causality.

Oh, wow...this movie looks like crap. Worse than I expected. It's like a cheap, direct-to-DVD movie...with bad acting and all. Doesn't feel like The Terminator in my opinion.

Boo...

Not to put to fine a point on it but unless Sarah and Reese get it on at precisely the same time as in the original film there's the chance John Conner doesn't exist.

This would implied causality and multiple timeline theory.

John Connor will always exist in a close-loop time line theory, as in this type of scenario paradox is nonexistent.

Just watched the trailer. I thought it was very 'meh' to be honest.

T1 was superb. T2 was a bit different (bigger budget, bigger effects, and so on) but still a fantastic action/sci-fi film. But after that it went downhill.

They've tried to milk this franchise for years and repeat the magic formula, but it didn't work for T3 or T4 and I don't think it's going to work for this either. The casting is muddled too - they've brought back Arnie, yet have new faces playing other characters. And we once again get a CGi young Arnold - it looked ridiculous in T4, and it looks equally ridiculous here. Computer effects have come on in leaps and bounds, but there is still no CGi model of an existing actor which looks 100% lifelike. And because it doesn't look real, I watch those scenes with virtually no tension or suspense or sense of danger.

"I'll be back" has to be the most overused line in Hollywood. It was a novelty seeing Arnie use it now and again in the 80s/90s outside of the Terminator franchise, but at this stage it's just getting cringeworthy.

IMO, the only way the Terminator franchise would have continued to be successful in terms of quality is if the man who was originally holding the reins - James Cameron - kept on making them. Hollywood really needs to let this go and stop bastardising it.

And would require the two of them getting it on at precisely the same time as the original film.

See I dont even agree with that. There are so many great directors and screenwriters that could do something with the franchise. They just always get s***y people

I get that you have to give some people a chance, but still

Of course, it just that John Connor will still be born. In effect, the Terminators and the resistance members will keep going back to the past in order to kill/protect John Connor.

For me I susbscribed to this theory:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_paradox#Novikov_self-consistency_principle

It doesn't mean that this Terminator film and indeed the previous Terminator films follow this theory - they're all entertaining events not to be taken seriously as basis for real physics.:cwink:

I'm now the Sheppard when it comes to remakes or sequels to films that I loved as a kid. These films no longer belong to my generation, it is now for the younger kids to see these and possibly check out the original two, we got two great ones. They are in my shelf and I can go back to them anytime. I will check this one out. No pre-judgment on my part. Hell, we got through T3 and Bale screaming at random times. The first two classics didn't suffer for them. I like seeing old action heroes still kicking ass. Good for Alnold!
