Looking at the numbers I think plans for a new trilogy will be shelved.

A group of middle aged men sat round a table and this is the best idea they could come up with. I bet they could have had a competition for the best Terminator script with the winning script used in the final movie and I would bet money the general audience would have come up with something more coherent and better.

The only guys who understood Terminator's story were Cameron and his writers. At least how to execute it in on screen.

Case in point, the best they could come up with for Salvation was the Marcus story. They were ready to spend hundreds of millions on that one with John Connor as a minor character and were going to replace him with Marcus.

Believe it or not, I feel bad for Arnold b/c it's obvious that he's been in denial that he's in the twilight of his career. It..kinda sucks.
You see, Creed was such a smart move for Sly. Stepping aside and hand off the franchise to someone else, in this case the son of Apollo.

That's why I think his King Conan movie can only work IF he hands it off to a successor; his offspring.
This is one of the rare cases where I actually thought that Indy 4 had the right idea.

The general audience are sending a message they won't put up with this **** anymore.

The fact that studios STILL think that making R-rated franchises PG-13 will somehow make them "sell better" is baffling to me. Did that change help the Robocop remake (which I felt was actually pretty decent), or the Total Recall remake, NO!! The only time that I can think of where it's even remotely worked is the fourth Die Hard film.

I thought that The two Clarke's were ok given the material that they were given to work with (which wasn't great to say the VERY least). And I had fun with Arnie, plus JK Simmons. Oh and Matt Smith was good when he was there (boy was he underused).

But the movie is a mess writing-wise and leaves open far too many questions. Here's the thing about the whole "we're saving stuff for the sequel" idea, you're FIRST MOVIE has to do well-enough to even warrant a sequel. Anybody remember The Golden Compass sequel, or Terminator Salvation 2? No, because they were never made since the first movie didn't do so hot.

And if you're going to either completely retcon or massively rewrite TWO of the most acclaimed/influential sci-fi films of all time, then you're own film had better be up to par.

Looks like a major disappointment at the Box Office. Even with bringing Arnold back.

And Wth. Jurassic World already beat Age of Ultron. No one saw that coming.

Watched T2 yesterday, still a classic, watched T3 today, I really don't think it's as bad as people make out, it's still better than Salvation for me but I have yet to see Genisys, going Tuesday.

I really think that Terminator, just like the Alien movies, are inherently Rated R. Not just in violence but in tone. Genesis felt like a PG-13 film.

It felt like they wanted an Avengers version of Terminator.

Clueless. Here's is an idea for free. The sequence in the first ten minutes of them taking out Skynet to gain access to the time machine. You make THAT the movie. But oh no, it isn't about telling a good story it is about setting up sequels.

T3 kind of doesn't work for me either:

-It completely goes against the point of the first two films (and in particular has to crap all over T2 just to justify it's very existence).

-The TX is a FAR inferior/lamer villain than the T-1000.

-I love "Arnie being Arnie" most of the time, but it was completely the wrong move for this franchise.

-It was the start of the "they have no idea what to do with John Connor" problem that the last THREE movies have all had.

-The comedy didn't work most of the time.

-Sarah Connor's absence is really noticeable and her presence is sorely missed.

Frankly the only post-T2 thing that I've truly enjoyed was The Sarah Connor Chronicles. It's basically T3, but done much better.

Eh I think you could make good Pg13 Terminator film.

The tone doesnt matter. I thought TS had a fine tone just everything else was sub par or bad.

If they wanted to keep it kinda "muted" but make it PG13 they shouldve looked at Dawn of the Planet of the Apes or the first 2 X-Men movies. A tone like that I think would work with a Termiantor movie (although I think they should stop making them)

I do get what youre saying though. I havent seen it but Genesis looked like a cookie cutter PG13 blockbuster movie released nowadays. While that maybe fine for Star Trek, the MCU, etc. I dont think it works for Terminator.

The difference between T3 and TS even though I think they are poor movies and don't own them on Blu-ray when I saw both movies in theatres I was entertained. I thought T5 front to back was dull, boring and confusing. I'm going to forget this movie exists.

Ugh I don't understand why that movie made so much money, while on the surface doesn't seem as bad as TG when you actually think about it, its much worse!

Also the excuse about being crushed by the weight of expectation because of the superior movies in the franchise doesn't wash because I throughly enjoyed Jurassic World and felt they handled the first movie (JP) with reverence and intelligence and the movie was actually ABOUT something.

Let's start the celebration! :jd:

Somebody mentioned earlier that a better idea than what we got in Genisys would have been a whole movie of "Pops" protecting the child Sarah Connor, on the run and off the grid from that T-1000 for years, waiting for the arrival of Reese. That could have been a trilogy right there, building up to that moment in the final film. Or something.

Sarah and Reese's absence is sorely felt in Genisys too.

:hehe: Yeah I agree with all of Loki's points on T3. It was embarrassing what happened to John Conner in that movie. And since. But I thought Bale did pretty well.

I actually haven't watched Salvation in a long time, I've been wanting to watch the series again to wash out Genisys but I can't get the missus to sit down for Terminator haha.

Definitely. I have come to like T3 less and less but the first time I saw it was a fun time.

I'll pay you to watch Genysis.

$50.00 plus someone to drive me to the theater. I dont want to even spend the gas on this. :o

Jokes aside, I'll watch it eventually, but it'll be a stream. Not even worth the $1 at the RedBox. And if I like it I'll buy the Blu Ray.

I agree. I also felt that it was made by a director that truly respected the original Jurassic Park and I could still feel the presence of all the people who were involved from the beginning, where here I couldn't feel that at all. I felt they were making the best movie they could possibly make there. I didn't feel that at all here.

Yes. The movie was a commentary on theme parks/movies needing to escalate because the general audience continually want the next best thing/something bigger better.

Mad Max isn't nearly as well known as the Terminator franchise, was R rated and had tougher competition and it opened with 45mil in 3 days while Genesis opened with 44 million over a 5 day holiday weekend. Yep that PG13 rating sure is helping.

No that was just a throwaway line. The movie itself isn't really about anything, I feel like it could have been written in minutes, the characters and the story are SO thin its laughable. I think it was an enjoyable movie but one I'm not interested in seeing again and its clear it didn't took much effort.
