Terminator: Genisys - Part 7

In the T2 novelisation (which is excellent, by the way) they go into the attack on SkyNet's base and everything. It's only after Reese and the original T-800 have been sent back that John and the Resistance discover the T-1000 was also sent back and decide to reprogram a Terminator to fight it. So

Also, the T-1000 was a unique, unstable, prototype, and during the course of T2 (a few days?) he was already malfunctioning.

Kanon,

When asked about that, Pops answers that it's classified.

lol.
Yeah, that's what was so intriguing! I was so curious about it, who did it and why he was supposed to be a secret (did he said "classified" or the files were erased?) :cmad:

I thought he was malfunctioning in the director's cut due to the liquid nitrogen.

In the theatrical cut, kinda, in the other cuts, it's clear that it's unstable due to being a prototype.

In the theatrical cut, it's implied it is the nitrogen, BUT (IIRC) it shows minor glitches before (I think in the hospital it does that thing where a horizontal "line" of metal goes from top to bottom)

On the other Skynet topic, after reading about the parallel universe Skynet, I posted this elsewhere

I think what the guys meant by "This Skynet has been to this universe, and this universe, and this universe" is not actual parallel realities, but data from Skynet that survives multiple time loops. Ex. Skynet-1 sends T-800-1 back in time, the chip becomes Skynet, now with future knowledge (let's call it Skynet-2). Skynet-2 sends T-800-2 (also more info from Skynet-2) back in time, becomes Skynet-3 (knowledge from Skynet 1 and 2). Skynet-3 sends T-800-3 and so on. The Skynet in Genesys could have witnessed it's own defeat an infinite number of times, and now acts with that knowledge.

If that's not what they meant, I think I just pitched a (slightly) better Terminator movie :D

Poor movie if the writer has to explain it, and not even that explanation is clear enough...

I like the theatrical cut of T2 much more than the extended.
It's a masterpiece in every cut. I think the chip scene really adds a lot, it's almost fundamental, and the glitchy T-1000 gives more of a "Skynet desperate attempt" feeling and a reason why it sent a T-800 if T-1000 are a thing. On the other hand, the alternate happy ending is a no-no for me.

Well we know Marvel interfered heavily with TDW, so whos to say Hopkins wasnt disinterested because of that? We will never know, hasnt Hopkins said he is not coming back for more? I doubt Taylor is the reason if true, but not everything Marvel insisted upon made the movie better. I thought Taylor balanced the humour in this movie much better than in TDW and I would say a lot of the action was better here than in TDW, the script just wasnt up to par. I do think a different director would have made a better movie but Taylor isnt a director to improve an average script, with a good script and less interference I think he would be able to make a good movie.

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, and I think TDW was dissapointing, so I'm not going to defend it, but I sure as hell am not going to defend this film, unless they were going for grade B humor and trying to mimic Ed Wood's "so bad it's awesome" style of filming.

I think the film makers were trying to have a serious attempt to bring back the franchise, and in that case it's a miserable failure. However, I enjoy this much more than the McG film, but mainly because it's so ridiculously bad.

After time to let it marinate I've decided I love this movie. As I said before, it's nowhere near perfect but it's fun as hell & didn't seem like a chore to sit through like TS. Don't get me wrong, I like Salvation too but this is better, imo.

Hopefully the next installment gets a more competent director, though.

John knew the whole time though. It's pretty messed up when you think about it. In The Terminator the loop is a little more poetic, but involving young John into the events of T2 essentially turns his future-self into a crazy puppet master.

I've been meaning to pick up their Terminator commentary track, but I hear Mike brings up Star Trek in it alot, like he usually does.

I'd like Plinkett to take on Salvation.

They don't realy seem to mind Salvation, in their videos they mention finding T-3 the worst of the franchise.

Yeah, on a $200mil+ budget its only made about $150mil back worldwide. It hasn't even broken even yet.

Would making a sequel to this make any good business sense at all? It's hard to imagine a follow up to this doing better numbers.

No, it wouldn't make sense. I think this is the end of the franchise to be honest.

free ticket.

lets start with questions. how dumb do you have to be to writte a movie where a terminator has real skin that ages..........and also grows/regenerates back over time?

question two. you have a time machine. you can type in the location ,date and year. you decide to go into the future to stop genisys 1 day before skynet goes online? Kyle told his young self the date. why would you give yourself only 24 hours?

I don't really have much problem with skin aging. The healing was mentioned in T2, I don't see the problem here? Not sure if I buy him being able to regrow all of the tissue in his arm, let alone the skin though.

movie making in 2015. you have a terminator helping and sacrificing himself to help Kyle and Sarah. than...........he is back and not only that. he is updated. this is how you writte saturday morning cartoons for 6 year old kids. they are 6 year old. its rated pg13 because of the action. the story would get an G rating. lower than dreamworks and pixar movies.

It will be the end of several careers.

Which ones do you have in mind? Arnold Schwarzenegger and Alan Taylor are the first ones that stick out for me. Emilia Clarke still has Game of Thrones to lean on, and Jai Courtney seems to always be given big projects to tackle despite how bad his track record is. Example, he's still got Suicide Squad next year, though if that fails, I imagine that's the end of his career.
