i was afraid that this would not bomb. you never know which summer movie will be popular . good or bad.

this needs to the second biggest bomb in 2015.

I think we have to wait and see after its run is over worldwide becuase who knows how it performs In other territories. You can however label magic mike 2 a bomb easily given its previous numbers and playing to a large women demographic.

What made me upset was that there were several simple close-up shots of the Exoskeletons and they were all CGI for whatever reason. Not even good CGI.... Even though they puppets on the set.. I don't get it.

And the Asian T-1000 CG effects were so..blah. Half of the amazing work that was done on T2 were pratical. Like this one right here:

jZYn1Yv.jpg

That was a scary sight to see in T2...and now it's now being seen as a lost and dead art form.

Wow, I didn't realize that shot was done with practical effects. Incredible. It actually made me a little sad inside when I saw the t-800s in genisys. They look like they escaped from a Playstation 3. How can something in 2015 look so much worse than T2?

Terminator Genisys wasnt a complete misfire for me,it offers solid SFX,action sequences ,some cool nods to previous
Terminator films and the man himself Arnold Schwarzenegger. Jai Courtney is serviceable in his role as Kyle Reese and
Emilia Clarke was more likeable in her role as Sarah Connor
When the film enters its second hour i started to pick it apart in my mind questioning the actions of the characters and their
placement at key points in the film. Most of it didnt add up leading to jumbled outcomes.
Even the mid credits scene didnt mean much to me
I found it better than the last 2 Terminator films though

Scale of 1-10 a 7

The more I think about this movie the more I want to burn things:

- Why does 1984 look and feel just like 2017
- Terminators used to be hard to kill, relentless machines, now just a sniper rifle or bit of acid kills them. way to easy.
- Sarah Connor crying over a machine?

I don't see how the SFX can be called solid when they are inferior to the SFX from 20 years ago. Did you see the helicopter chase? In what universe does that look realistic?

Yeh the helicopter chase was actually surprisingly bad. I sometimes think Hollywood is getting away from such ridiculous action scenes and then I see this. It felt very out of place.

It was as though those cgi helicopters were being wildly flung around the room in the hands of an invisible child playing make believe. Have the people that made that sequence ever seen a helicopter in flight?

All they needed to do was go and watch then end of T2, no ropey CGI in the entire sequence with the helicopter in that, pretty much all practical effects and that film is like 25 years older than this. No excuse.

I didn't see enough to make the distinction.

- Terminators used to be hard to kill, relentless machines, now just a sniper rifle or bit of acid kills them. way to easy.

Both were killed relatively easily enough with the benefit of anticipation and planning.

- Sarah Connor crying over a machine?

Over a machine that raised her and called pops. This isn't the same Sarah whose first experience with the Arnie cyborg was so traumatising.

You can argue about the changes if you think they sucked, but you can't accuse those changes of being poorly presented.

-the naked terminator is 100% CGI.
-they added evil and angry expressions on him. why? why should a terminator look stressed and evil? young children are not that dumb.
“We also had him capture more fight scene orientated facial performances - more action expressions,” says Stopsack. “These were for when he’s under more tension and stressed and needs a more ‘evil’ expression.” The poses were then re-targeted to the Young Arnold model and combined with the blendshapes.''

The first terminator had zero expression, he was merciless like Michael Myers. ****, no one on this film knew or cared about the original or T2.

A sniper shot with a modern weapon is a weaksauce killing method considering how laser weapons in the future still have a hard time winning against Terminators. Also I was really wondering why John Connor didn't just ram Pops through the heart aside from the obvious excuse of bad movie plot armor.

The idea of anticipation and planning giving the heroes an advantage could have been good but such an idea requires clever writing to pull off. The movie instead relied on extreme convenience such as something on a light post being able to disrupt the most advanced Terminator ever made.

It didn't look like your average chump weapon even by 80s standards in fairness. A part of Reese's problem in T1 was not only dealing with obsolete weapons but he couldn't even get his hands on the best of what the era had to offer.

In Genysis it looked to me that Sarah and "Pops" had raided a few bases to say the least.

I hear what you're saying about plot armour but I don't think this Connor was bothered about a clean victory. He wanted to show his dominance in every way, and would have rathered ripping Pops apart than beating him with a clean well placed shot. Indeed I think Connor even referred to Pops as a relic from a lost time, beating such a relic in a clean manner would have been beneath it.

This was the most self aware Terminator we have seen, not your average T800 who just had getting the mission done in mind.

I find the opposite to be happening. The first terminator had its' leg crippled after being hit by a semi, and each movie they've gotten more resilient to the point of laughter. I groaned when Pops [BLACKOUT]walks out of the helicopter wreckage having only lost skin off his face when he just flew through a damn helicopter. He should have been scrapped.[/BLACKOUT]

I also hate the crab hunter killers in the future sequence. Just give us the badass as hell tanks from the first 2 movies. I still remember being scared witless by those guys as a kid.

Fair point, I thought the same.

Having said that, seeing a skinless Pops saying look after my Sarah would have been worth the admission fee alone for comedy purposes. :oldrazz:

Yeah I didn't have a problem with the "acid/sniper-rifle" thing. The T-1000 in T2 was killed by a grenade launcher and molten metal. A home-made pipe bomb did significant damage to the T-800 in the first film.

The Centurions? Those were actually originally imagined by James Cameron for T2. But because the special effects restraints they didn't use them. I think they are pretty cool but they were just terribly executed in this film.

Ah you're right, just found some concept art by Jimbo. Still prefer the tanks by a long shot though.

Yeah maybe thats my main problem with the whole thing, too much has been changed from the original's for me to invest in these characters any more, they aren't the same one's so I dont recognise or connect with them.

Thats fair enough I guess if they want to take them in their own direction but it just means I cant go along with it, its only Terminator in name to me.

Probably didnt help me watching T2 the day before as this film pretty much wants you to erase that from memory.

Still us fans of the originals still have that to watch and fans of this new series can enjoy it if it gets more sequels.

The movie is terrible, but it's so bad that it's actually pretty funny. The script is like it was thrown together as a two year old, and the movie is the swiss cheese of plot holes, but if you're willing to look past all that, this movie is hilarious. Perhaps unintentionally, but I laughed my ass through the whole film. Loved the bits with "pops", and this is probably Schwartzenegger's best role in years (again, likely unintentionally).

Funny how Emilia Clarke can be so good on Game of Thrones and so horrible in this movie. I don't think she's a bad actress, but you woulnd't know from watching this film.

If this movie was a serious attempt at making a new series of Terminator films. I'd give it a 1/10.

If this was more of a B-movie on Steroids, like the type of thing you'd see on SyFy channel, I'll give it an 8/10.

Redlettermedia uploaded their half in the bag.
