Terminator: Genisys - Part 8

They haven't ever really rebooted it.They have tried re-energizing the franchise by bringing out sequels but we have never had a true reboot.

And personally I wouldn't want one, T1 is just too damn good to be re-booted for me. Though of course that hasn't stopped it happening to other classic movies.

Oh dont get me wrong T1-T2 are my favourite films of all time but I dont see any harm in rebooting. Sure it has a high chance of being really bad but thats not how I think about possible ideas, I always go in imagining the best. Its no fun rebooting The Terminator in my head if its going to be ****.

No reboot.

How many more times can you reboot this thing? Enough's enough.

As much as I like the series, Genysis should really be the last film. There is *some* life left in the post-Apocalyptic war scenario, but that doesn't seem to be the direction of the new trilogy. We've seen 4 films about racing to stop Skynet, not to mention the brief TV series. A premise can only be stretched so far.

I'd prefer they don't remake Terminator but I wouldn't be shocked if it were remade one day. I still think that it was blasphemy that they remade Robocop, which is my favorite movie ever by the way.

We're a good, what, five years away from anyone touching this with a ten-foot pole. And without Arnold, it's about time people figure out he's commercially toxic.

Commercially toxic is an accurate description of Arnold in the 2010's.

Every damn thing ever does not need remade or rebooted.

No. Although I am still waiting to hear what they thought of my Kindergarten Cop 2 sequel pitch (this forthcoming Dolph Lundgren DTV thing doesn't count) that is basically a remake of Infernal Affairs/The Departed with Danny DeVito in the Matt Damon role.

I think if Arnold got one great movie that was hit under his belt, that would change, but he needs to start picking better projects that's for sure.

Yeah I do. I love it. Sue me for enjoying something people hate or don't get or didn't enjoy.

Just asking dude. You are entitled to your own opinion...even if its wrong. :P jk

I have unpopular opinions as well so I'm not one to talk but I'd have a hard time putting such a bland film at the top of even a "worst of" list.

To me, Fury Road and Genisys are at polar opposite ends of the sequel/reboot spectrum in terms of quality.

They can't possibly continue this storyline can they?

I remember at the theater thinking that they wrote themselves into a corner with the conclusion of the third act

One was made by a talented passionate filmmaker who loves and understands his film's world and the other by a committee who obviously have never analyzed the first two Terminator movies above a surface level.

Fury Road had probably hands down the best action of 2015. I literally can barely remember any action from Genisys.

Also, Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron royally kick Jai Courtney and Emilia Clarke's asses as far as action duos, or as actors in general.

The T-800 in T3 was obviously different to the one in T4 though, as the latter completely lost his skin and wasn't sent back to the T3 time period to protect John and Kate. Those movies didn't really follow each other at all.

Yeah I know he was a different Terminator, and even in Terminator 3 he didn't literally mean Him as in that particular Terminator but meant as in another T-800 but one with skin "due to his memories as a child" or something of that nature.

If you watch T3 and then Salvation you will see it does follow more than you think. I disliked T3 so much I had not watched it in years. recently watched it and Salvation again and picked up on some of the things such as the foretelling of Arnold's T-800 and a few other things that link the movies and etc.

But hey, whatever, I'm not trying to persuade you to like Salvation or anything like that. Just sharing my thoughts and opinions. If you haven't watched them in a while, maybe give them a watch and you will see some of what I am mentioning.

Well, no, the one sent back in T3 IS the Terminator that killed John in the future, this is stated by the T-800 in T3 clearly. He even says "I killed you" to John. Then he states he is reprogrammed by Kate Brewster and sent back. So again, the T-800 in T4 is not the one in T3 as the one in T3 is sent back after killing John and being reprogrammed.

So, sorry, it doesn't match up at all. And when making Salvation McG clearly stated he was ignoring T3. Not trying to be a dick BTW, just pointing out things.
Just a minor nitpick but one none the less, the T-800 in T-3 is actually a T-850, a slightly revised and newer model. But otherwise most of the details about it are the same.

And Terminator: Salvation does recognize Terminator 3 because Katherine is Kate, they just had to recast Clare Danes with Bryce Dallas Howard due to scheduling conflicts (or Danes wisely avoided a return).

McG can say what he wants but the fact is they didn't completely ignore T-3 even if they fail to acknowledge most of it.

As to whoever or whatever reprogrammed that T-800 to go back in time and safeguard Sarah Connor, I doubt we'll find out because I doubt Genisys is getting a sequel. They tried and failed hard to set up a new trilogy of Terminator movies by deliberately or incompetently leaving out key details in this movie which made no sense to the audience.

I think the best you can hope for is the writers saying "we intended for this to happen" and explain what would have happened in the sequels that never were.

Funny you should say that, because I believe Tom Hardy was considered for Kyle Reese at one point. He really dodged a bullet there (seriously, he's made GREAT film choices this year).

I thought Emilia Clarke did fine as an action star, just not as Sarah Connor. A passing resembalance to Linda Hamilton and a few good lines weren't enough.

I can't take Emilia Clarke as an action star seriously when she can't fire a gun on camera without blinking like she has the sun in her eyes.
