Terminator: Genisys - Part 8

the problem that the studios refuse to accept is that The Terminator was a perfect story by itself....Terminator 2 was great as well but essentially a bigger version of the first film.

after that THERE IS NO WHERE TO GO!!!

the story is about machines going in the past to retroactively kill the leader of the resistance thus sparking their own existence which leads to the war and trying to kill John Conner rinse and repeat forever in the time loop.

Doing stories involving John Conner before the Resistance turned out to be not that interesting and doesn't move the story forward much if at all which is why Cameron jumped off when he did and Terminator 3 Rise Of The Machines was panned.

The story is NOT in the future..we KNOW how it ends..we win, how that happens isn't really that interesting either thats why Terminator Salvation was panned.

Any other stories about time lines in the past with Sarah Conner is just repetitive which is why the Sarah Conner Chronicles flopped.

from a CREATIVE standpoint you can't beat or match the first movie at this point. And any attempt is just a money grab on the laurels of this

Still get the vibe that people want more of the same. Genisys produced something different which put people out of their comfort zones. Another movie will come eventually. It will get recast ed or hopefully continue with this one but you can watch all 5 and they all have a though line. It wasn't a reboot because it has
Arnold Schwarzenegger and the previous movies had to happen for this movie events to happen.
This is a false conclusion in many ways. The least of which is as pointed out below, it was not a different movie.

Genisys was more of the same. Much of the movie was a rehash/greatest hits of the previous movies. I don't think it was particularly original. Salvation had more originality than Genisys.
It was a poorly rehashed version of the first two (and best) movies. The only remotely original part wasn't even original which was turning John Connor into a villain. As was posted above, this was the original idea for Terminator 3. It wasn't used but it was already an idea discussed and discarded previously.

Being different is fine if you can be different and still be good at it. Just being different alone does not mean it is better.

This is one of the worst blockbusters of the decade, I can't fathom why it's still being discussed.

It's still being discussed being some people seem to want more. So your statement should be you can't fathom why people want more.

That's one of the great things about the world we live in.....everyone is not required to like or hate what everyone else in the world likes or hates. They can like or hate what you hate or like. Different opinions....they exist.

Again?

The sequel getting taken off the schedule sort of sparked discussion more. Also it's part of a big franchise that includes two classics, like it or not.

It's a new year, and technically in a certain amount of time the rights are supposed to revert to James Cameron. i think hardcore fans are more interested in seeing what could happen if the rights revert to Cameron.

Not on the internet, though, heh...if you like movies the critics hated, or dislike movies the critics loved, you're an idiot/troll/weirdo/bigot (yeah...a bigot because you dislike Silence of the Lambs, I'm not kidding).

Not every single movie has to be like Schindler's List. As I said earlier, Terminator Genisys is not a masterpiece and yes, it is a bit stupid..but I still had fun watching it. Harmless stuff. I even enjoy movies like Captain America (1990), Batman & Robin and Steel.

I wasn't looking for a Schindler's List in a series about a time traveling person or robot sent back to save humanity from an evil AI and I don't think anybody else was either. I was however looking for a decently written, directed and acted action film about that and well I didn't feel the film had those three things or certainty not enough of them.

There is nothing wrong with anyone who is satisfied with Terminator Genisys just like their is nothing wrong anyone who is not. The "it's not Schindler's List" accusation has always been highly dubious and I wish people would learn stop saying it.

I didn't think this film was that bad, I wasn't in love with it. I didn't like the twist, and I thought casting 6'4" jacked Jai Courtney for 5'10" slim Michael Beihn was a bit off. I think the hate trolling is a bit extreme though, it was better than T3 and Salvation. I honestly think nothing was as good as the Sarah Conner Chronicles tv show that was on Fox as far as continuing the Terminator story.

I agree that everyone has a right to their opinions on a film. A lot of people who did not like this film, myself included, did not like it because it was a bad movie... plain and simple. Being entertained by it is fine, as I have also been entertained by watching terrible movies like Machete Kills and A Good Day to Die Hard. Entertaining movies do not always equal good movies.

Also, I don't know anyone who has disliked this particular film because they were expecting "Schindler's List" or other Oscar worthy quality. A lot of people disliked this film because it was poorly executed. Recreating moments from T1 and T2 only reminded fans of how great the first two Terminator films were and how this film was not.

But remember: It's not Schindler's list...:yay:

Welcome to SHH.

I don't think Terminator Genisys is "good". For me, it lies in a mysterious place between bad and mediocre. Badiocre? I just can't hate it. I expected to hate it, and I almost didn't want to waste my money on it when I saw in the store. But I bought it anyway, and I didn't regret it.

I don't think there will ever be a Terminator movie that's better than the first two.

Funny enough I didn't hate the movie either. I felt it was poor but it's not Fantastic Four bad or anything. It's just a regular bad movie. If it weren't so horribly miscast I'd might have even given a follow up a chance despite Genisys quality.

The truth is that I'm an easy lay when it comes to Terminator. The fact that these films aren't pleasing enough to me is baffling.

Fantastic Four...you mean Fanfourstic? I almost bought that movie, but I wimped out.

Don't buy it, it's not worth it.

I won't:hehe: scenes from the movie trailer popped up in my mind when I looked at the DVD cover. I turned away from it and never looked back. I took it as a warning from my guardian angel or something.

I think I'll skip it when it's on tv as well.

Thanks for the welcome :)

I agree with I See Spidey....the right casting could have made this movie tolerable. Not to mention the fact that this movie wasted the only decent actors in the film :(

I'm not sure if any of you have seen the newest Suicide Squad trailer, but it appears that Jai Courtney has more chemistry with his beer can in a 3 second clip of the trailer than he had with Clarke in the entire film...hahahaha. Casting two people because they look good, but lack actual chemistry was another downfall of Genisys.

"Courtney having more chemistry with his beer can," is a hilarious line.

Kyle Reese is supposed to be paranoid, desperate and not a ****ing brick house. Reese is none of those things in Genisys and they don't explain the character change. The character being bland action guy makes him less interesting so even if they did explain that change I'd still hate it.

Reese, as played by Michael Biehn, is basically an animal. He's paranoid, prone to panic, scrappy, quick to lash out, constantly scared, impatient, overly emotional, etc. The one time in the entire film that he relaxes and acts as a normal human being is a brief moment right after having sex with Sarah. It was really a rather brilliant and very underrated performance.

He seems better cast for his Suicide Squad role than Reese on the grounds that he's playing an Australian jerk instead of an American wannabe hero.
