And while we're at it, Ford and Spielberg need to knock it off with this Indiana Jones 5 foolishness. They clearly just don't have that undefinable "something" they had when they made the classic Indy films, the last thing we need is more SW prequel level Indy films.

Yeah, Crystal Skull was abysmal. I'm all for more Indy movies but it's time for Ford and Speilberg to pass the torch to someone else.

If it gives you any hope, I heard this is the first Indy film George Lucas won't be involved with.

That I did hear and that has given me mixed thoughts on it. Even though Lucas has been a shell of his former self since the 80's I don't know how I feel about an Indiana Jones movie without his involvement.

I also don't know just what part of Crystal Skull was his and what was Spielberg's (besides the fridge nuking, he has owned up to that). I am going to assume with only two people instead of three people that they can better agree on how to move forward instead of a three-way split on how to develop the movie.

It would be a better movie if Cameron were behind the camera but I don't think he has plans to come back for another Terminator. Not when he's working on his opus, Avatar (three more movies in his quadrilogy). Then he's got that Battle Angel movie and whatever documentary stuff he will no doubt be doing.

Then they should probably just let the franchise die with Genisys or they should remake the whole franchise from scratch with a new Terminator as the star replacing Arnold and starting from scratch all the way from T1 remaking the whole franchise from scratch

The franchise will come to a conclusion whenever the Halo franchise does; which is to say, never. Even though it's been a roller coaster ride for the past few films, it is still a profitable intellectual property. I'm of the opinion it should not have continued past the first film, so, I have a love-hate relationship with all of the sequels and the headache inducing timeline. The last one was a live action honest Saturday morning cartoon. If they keep that tone and honesty, I'll be fine if they keep churning them out.

Hopefully the saga will stay finished forever at that point. I mean, Im EXTREMELY happy that the last movie in this franchise wasnt the absolutely atrocious Salvation, and I kind of have a fondness for the fanmovie-ish Genisys, so its best to just end up in here, in a fanfilm-like fun fanboy film paying homage to the original two. I dont want any follow up because Im afraid of what they may come up with. Its a scary world where films like Alien Resurrection and Terminator Salvation exists so you never know

Clarke appears to have let the cat out of the bag here, effectively confirming this reboot is dead, yet the story is being reported as if she has simply chosen to walk away from the series. Pretty sure they didn't sign her for one movie though.

Between Paramount removing Terminator from its schedule and the rights going back to Cameron in 2019, I'd say Clarke's admission is the final nail in this particular coffin.

Like I said in the other thread it isn't definite but it is very close to an indicator we won't see another Terminator movie again unless James Cameron decides he wants to do one.

What Terminator needs for a successful reboot, in my opinion, is not necessarily a remake but re-imagining of the first movie.

A killing machine from the future that will stop at nothing until it's target is terminated.

Remember Kyle's speech to Sarah in the first film about what the Terminator is? It's friggin' frightening as all hell!

Brand new characters, new designs, just keep the concept. Find a way to make the simple thrill of the chase compelling with high stakes, characters you can care about, no Arnold, no Connors. And it should be an unsettling 2 hour ride while you go through the experience of being hunted with those new characters.

Not a fun trip through nostalgia land.

Edit: Maybe even have James Cameron write it, and hand pick a director, BOOM! Or go with all new blood, who won't be afraid to shake it up.

I think what Terminator needs is for people to stop chasing Terminator 2 and trying to recreate it again.

Even the writers can't keep straight how the time travel element works anymore.

Look, they tried to reboot the franchise basically with a new trilogy with Genisys. Didn't work. They tried a future wars franchise with Salvation. Didn't work. TV series didn't work out in the long run.

Maybe just time to keep Terminator aside for now.

I have no problem with setting Terminator aside, especially after Genisys. I would have preferred the Salvation follow up than what we got, two failed trilogies.

Those movies though kept trying to give reinterpretations of classic characters. To take the series big moments and turn them upside down with little twists for the novelty of it. T3, Salvation and Genisys all abandoned what made the first film so awesome.

At this point you're probably right though, and there might not even be a film maker out there who has a compatible vision for what is necessary for the Terminator.

Though when it first came out, I did have a good time watching T3. I probably would have been excited for a sequel back then.

All three sucked. To various degrees. A collection of hacks trying to ride James Cameron's coattails and falling flat on their face, every single time.

T3 is all about the car chase. That sequence is the only one that keeps reminding me of that film. Apart from that, it was just ok compared to T2.
TS had potential, I agree with that opinion. Sadly, I don't remember ANYTHING about that film.
TG is great until they go forward in time. Up to that point, it was probably the best Terminator version since T2. I really enjoyed it, but the second and third acts are a mess.

The furure war stuff always looks good but they always run to the past. The future wars are far more interesting at this point.
