Yeah, people couldn't trip over each other fast enough in the race to post all of the negative Wolverine reviews, but somehow this is different

If you don't like the opinion presented in a review, say so. Rebut it, or ignore it. But just because a review is negative doesn't mean it doesn't belong in the review thread.

I don't think people have been saying that too much. The only thing was at first some of the negative reviews some were weary about, as always.

If there are reviews, they are all welcome in here. Good or bad.

BTW I did not like Wolverine, but I don't go flying into boards of movies I did not care for to gloat or puff up the chest. If I don't like a film I simply give my review, and then respect what others may feel about it. *When the film is finally out that is*

I honestly always get a little kick out of when I see the "I don't care about critics and their opinions" remark.

When films like Trek, TDK and Iron Man come out and are well reviewed fanboys sure as hell seem to care but when the opposite happens all of a sudden critics are idiots and they don't get these films despite evidence to the contrary.

I'm not saying the movie is going to be bad but when critical opinion is THIS low chances are something's going to be wrong with the film.
But... I don't care about what the critics think. If the majority of them liked/disliked a movie which I liked/disliked, I don't care. I respect the fact that they all have their own seperate opinions But, then again, I have my own.

I see your logic, and I feel pretty much the same way, but this is the internet. Unfortunately, we'll always have those guys online (still living in their parent's basement) who catch a movie's trailer, hype or hate on it to all hell and go with their own false opinions 'til the very end (whether they actually see the film or not).

It's a poor stereotype, in which it (unfortunately) exists.

 :woot:

I always find it funny how on-line folk mockingly dismiss critics as being too cynical and pretentious to "get" a movie, or understand the mentality of the average audience.

Having attended critic's screenings, and socializing with film critics, on a regular basis for over a year now, I feel pretty confident in saying that, in regards to distorted perceptions and general bitterness, the internet film-fans far over-shadow them. Most of them (the Vancouver critics circle) are a pretty low-key group who just really love (and more importantly) understand film and what it can achieve.

I'd argue that its the web fanatics who are more out of touch.

Though I agree, people can do this, I rarley dismiss completely what any critic says I just may not agree with them, which is fine. *though for this film I will have to wait and find out*

But the sad thing is what you said right there. First you generalized the Internet dwellers into one single group, claiming that they are bitter and people that think they are smart. And yet that all critics are lovers of film, and understand it better....

To me that is not something that you generalize on either side. There are critics just as Internet people that come off as as if they know more than others and push that superior agenda on to others. Some...I mean some not all critics can act as if the general audience or people like us are too stupid to understand deep movies. I'm not the smartest guy int he world by far, but I love film, and understand enough of it to talk about it all the time.

To me you are generalizing and forgetting that there are jerks and people that are bitter just as much in one group as the other. It's just how it goes.

You're right, I should have been clearer.

I'm not referring to the internet as a whole, but rather the heated, vocal minority who typically over-shadow the rest. There are plenty of very intelligent, well-spoken (written?) individuals around here who have interesting ideas and a willingness to explore the cinematic universe.

I wasn't intending to slander the entire on-line population, but rather the fanboy-ish types (the "fanatics" I was referring to in the previous post) who call for a critic's head if he doesn't appreciate/revere the subtleties of their given object of fixation.

I see, and I agree with that. Even though I may have heavily disagreed with reviews sometimes, I don't *call for heads* ;)

What Solidus said.

I respect critcis, but it's their opinion. Do they inform? Yes. Do they provide insightful information of film and recognize it as a deeper thing than just entertainment? Yes. I respect that. But it's THEIR opinion. People clearly don't listen to them. (With ST, I can see though, since people might have been suspicious on the quality, but when it got great word of the mouth and reviews, it helped it out) in some cases. But really, it matters what you think.

Like I said, this Tomato-meter is a ****ty scale to judge any film on.
The RT score is basically a gauge of how many critics liked a movie. That's all. It doesn't measure cultural significance or how well-made the movie is. Just how much a large group of people who watch a lot of movies liked this particular one.

If critics say it's better than terminator 3 then I can live with that.

I agree that their opinions have next to zero effect on blockbusters, but critical response is often invaluable in drawing attention to smaller films which might slip through the cracks.

Mmmmm, not always ...

I have really noticed the effect great reviews are having on Star Trek.

People I know who HATE sci-fi and Trek are paying to see it simply because they almost feel like they should.

One national tabloid here in the UK gave it 15/10 !!! ........

Terminator: Salvation current score on RT stands at 24% with 17 reviews counted. 4 Fresh 13 Rotten.

You know .... I just didn't see this coming.

I still can't wait to see it but I honestly thought this was going to be a bit special.

Thanks for this, I was trying to say this as well. This is where I do give them credit.

why do these reviews keep referencing T3? I thought it was clear that they aren't really counting that movie...or maybe its not clear I don't know...just that in T3 two things were established... Judgment Day was merely delayed not prevented by the events of T2 and that the future is inevitable...and John has a lady...Kate. So...most of these reviews keep talking about if people haven't seen all three films they'll be lost...I can understand if they haven't seen 1 or 2.
