We're not talking about profitability, we're talking about public opinion. On average, more people enjoyed those films than Salvation, despite weak reviews.

And as I said, who didn't want to see giant robots blow **** up and engage in epic wars?

Horror remakes always do well despite poor reviews. Who didn't want to see Jason run and destroy everything in his path?

Who didn't want to see armies of robots shooting stuff up in the Future war?

Isn't it a bigger plot whole that Sky Net is able to scan Reese's face even though they've never seen him before, then captures Reese because he's number one on their assassination list, but then holds him to draw Connor into Sky Net so they can kill him. WHEN ALL THEY HAVE TO DO IS KILL REESE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man I hated this movie. Terminator 1 and 2 are maybe the best sci-fi we've ever had. This movie made T3 look like friggen Shakespeare. McG didn't just kill this franchise, it's like he went back in time and killed it's mother too.

Thats really how i felt as well:csad:

By the way, the people who told you that Salvation is as good as the first three? They're dead wrong.

I believe that's an opinion, not a fact. If people thought TS was as good as the other films, they're more than entitled to think so. I didn't think it was nearly as good as the first two, but it was still a decent film and a few people I know who saw it loved it.

BTW Epi I stopped being lazy and went back and reformatted my review it's like 20 times better now lmao.

LOL. It's good to know that my format-nazi role is making a difference.:oldrazz:

while I enjoyed Salvation for what it was - a mindless popcorn fun, I do acknowlege that from the filmmaking point of view its a juvenile cartoon

The movie is obviously styled in superhero theme and targeted for younger audience. Its just an absuurd fun like Transformers or such. Bale even said twice in two seprate interviews that he doesnt know wha its there to talk about, its just a popcorn flick with robots, theres nothing to discuss, its pure fun. And I agree with him, it is what it is. But its a far cry from what terminator used to be - heart attack serious movie with deep issue and morality play (T2) and horror messing with your mind (T1), trhen it turned into self parodying comedy with T3 and now its just a pure CGI robot fest for families to enjoy

Salvation was epic on many different levels, I just wish everyone could see that *sigh*

Don't worry, they think T3 is better - dont waste your time on them

It wasn't really epic though and it wasn't really that much better than T3.

To the mods:

I know that this is only an opinion.

As goofy as T3 was the writing was much tighter. Not to mention the critics and the box office agrees.

Consensus: With storytelling as robotic as the film's iconic villains, Terminator Salvation offers plenty of great effects but lacks the heart of the original films.

So any way you look at it you're wrong. People hated TS because most people know when they see bad writing. It was a bad movie. T3 was at least entertaining and well put together. The story made sense. TS was just a mesh of scripts thrown together that had the most plot holes in any movie I've ever seen. I'm glad it's doing poorly. I'm probably the biggest Terminator fan here. I've met Arnold and all we talked about was Terminator, he signed a Terminator dvd for me, and the first has been my favorite movie since I was a kid.

All that said, TS was terrible and I'm glad it's doing bad. And if you can't see that it was a poorly made film with more plot holes in it than most films, maybe we shouldn't be wasting our time on you.

I'll take TS just because its war story is different from the tired old chase plot from the first trilogy. Also, Bale's an awesome Connor. Other than that it wasn't great, however much I wanted it to be.

I'll take Salvation over T3 any day.

Yeah, I was mostly referring to the first two, not so much 3.

I think there's far more room for debate in terms of T3 vs. Salvation. Personally, I'll take T3 any day of the week, but I find it pretty difficult to get too worked up over someone choosing the latter.

Personally, I liked T3 . I'd give it a C ,but it wasn't bad imo. It was basically Terminator 1 with a little bit of T2 thrown in. I do think that the lack of Arnold in TS hurt the film, and I think it also hurt T:SCC in terms of the audience. I think his character is so iconic that it's left a major shadow on any future Terminator projects. When people think Terminator they think Swartzenegger. They don't think of Worthington, Glau or Heady even though they're all first rate actors. Story also matters but I do think the lack of the govenator hurt the film and show.

So, I just came from the cinema. I went in with no expectations, or maybe expecting something craptacular. I think it helped 'cause now the film was just meh. I didn't hate, but I didn't exactly like it either. Marcus Wright was easily the best thing in the film. I'm not so sure was Bale good choice for Connor. Yelchin as Kyle Reese was fine. I agree with some posters that Star was unnecessary character. I really didn't see the point. Kyle as a loner would'v been cooler. I would'v even been fine if they'd incorporated his brother from TTSCC. I digged the Arnold cameo. Very subtle, very nice.

Better story + better director = better movie. I guess.

I still hope that McG/WB will put together some kinda Unrated/R-rated/Extended/Director's Cut DVD. McG himself said that there were 30-40 minutes cut from the film, but he wasn't sure will any of it be part of the coming DVD's. It might improve the film, at least a little bit.

2½ / 5

It's their own opinion. They have a right to believe and like what they want, just like people have a right to enjoy Wolverine which I thought was more disappointing and didn't live up to its potential.

And it's not my rosy coloured view. I don't listen to critics and I went in with my own perspective rather than trying to "fit in". If you went in expecting Terminator 1 and 2 then it's your own fault for being disappointed.

And just because Cameron worked on the first two Terminator movies it doesn't mean he would have automatically made a good Terminator Salvation movie across the board. And who knows,Terminator Salvation could have even been a piece of crap even if he worked on it,some need to stop defending the man's movies so quick. Let's look at Spiderman's movies,Raimi did the first two and many people who saw them loved them, but when he did the third Spiderman movie, well we all know how that turned out. Just some food for thought.

I didnt know that much had been cut from it. I thought it shouldve been longer with far more characterisation. I enjoyed all the lovely sfx and action but felt a little empty when it came to feeling for teh characters. Marcus, Conner and Reese were pretty well done, but just didnt have enough time spent on them really.
I went in with lowered expectations so enjoyed myself more than I thought I would, it couldve been so much better though.
I agree with what Rachel Dawes said, that at least it makes achange from the chase movie formula of teh 1st 3. I sat dwon to watch all 3 and ended up putting off T2 after SC escaped from the loony bin as I wasnt that up for watching another series of chases.
Hopefully a directors cut will make it a bit better. Better than T3, I dont know, maybe not.
