Hmm. Seems that Doug's not going to do Newsies now, and instead Rocky IV. Anyone happen to know why?

Rocky IV is not even the worst one. Rocky V is though there's probably more to make fun of with Rocky IV even though I love it.

Maybe it's one of the ones he likes and still makes fun of it, like with Hook.

Oh yeah definitely. I'm not defending Rocky IV. There's a lot thats pretty campy and bad about it. Its not a stretch at all. Its not like Nostalgia Chick reviewing Hercules.

And though you may not believe there are a bunch of films that Doug reviews that he likes.

Well, Digimon had an actual plot.

Digimon was the better show. I liked Pokemon when it first came on, but after awhile, I realized how stupid it was, even at 8 years old. Digimon I really liked a lot more. I got REALLY into it. I re-watched some episodes from the first season and it's pretty stupid looking back on it. The only season that was good was the 3rd one. It took itself more seriously and was more interesting with the connection between the real world and digital world.

The only reason I got into Pokemon was because all my friends were into it, but as soon as I saw Digimon I knew it was the better show. I only was able to watch the first three seasons, after that the time and day it aired seemed to change. I remember liking the second season, so I guess I'll see if it is as good as I think it was when the next review gets posted.

But yeah, the third season was cool as well.

I think I just realized one reason why Pokemon sucked so much. Ash was easily the worst trainer in the entire world. He never evolved his Pokemon, he always did horrible type matchups (like Pikachu against Ground or his brilliant idea of using a Metapod against another Metapod), couldn't control his most powerful Pokemon (Charizard), and rarely ever used the strong ones he had.

Ash was an awful trainer. Gary would've been a much more interesting character. A guy who wins, but isn't really as attached to his pokemon. That would've been great development.

Really enjoyed JO's Digimon rundown. I've never once watched Digimon in my life (nor do I have any plans to do so), so I had no idea that the show had so much going for it.

That would have been so much better. Make it more about a kid maturing instead of a complete idiot with a revolving door of basic, cute Pokemon.

Most shonen anime about some kid battling other people-- the main characters are either already the best, or they show a ton of potential to become the best. Goku is either the strongest man on the planet or he's about to be. Yugi is the best card player in the whole of history.

Ash... Ash learns nothing. He never quite grasps the concept of certain pokemon types being weak against others, captures random pokemon without any strategic forethought, and he enters the gyms in new countries without learning their special battle rules first. If I remember the first season correctly, I think Ash got half of his gym badges as a gesture for helping the gym leaders defeat Team Rocket.

And thats the problem. There's no character development in Pokemon. Every other anime has character development, but not pokemon.

Pokemon was always more about video games anyway. The digimon games sucked, so it evens out.

He only beat Brock because he had Pikachu hit the water sprinkler which weakened Onix. I don't think he ever beat Misty. Erika only gave him her badge because he rescued Gloom from the fire in the gym (why doesn't THAT gym have a sprinkler system? What does Brock need one for in a Rock gym?). He "beat" Erika by having a Haunter follow him and making her laugh. He got Koga's badge for beating Team Rocket or something. He did beat Blaine (or at least his Charizard got pissed and beat Blaine's Magmar on its own). He also beat Lt. Surge despite being such a stubborn dumbass and using his Pikachu against Raichu, trying to prove a point to Surge.

I remember when I got my PS2, Digimon World was the first game I bought. Then I got it and realized how ****** it was. My Digimon evolved into the Ghost one, which was the worst possible one I think. It ended up dying and I didn't care enough to try to raise it again.

My digimon was augumon, and it digivolved into that human torch looking digimon. WTF!? I was looking forward to digivolving to Greymon but it didn't.

The Pokemon show seemed geared for only those under the age of 8 (probably more like 5 or 6). And character development isn't a concern to kids that young. Not as much as seeing their favorite Pokemon, Team Rocket do silly things, and fights with cool special effects.

Which also means the show will utterly fail to keep the viewers interested for more than a couple of years. Of course, that's all you need with successful fads.

And don't forget his frequent urge to abandon them once they got too strong, anyway. Primeape, Butterfree, Pidgeot, Charizard. He even tried to get rid of Pikachu at one point.
