I saw this last night on Cinemax. The last time I saw this movie was probably in 1991. Well, anyway, it's actually a lot better than I remember. The camera work was pretty cool. It was almost Sam Raimi-esque. The action/fight scenes were pretty decent. And, Michael Kamen's score was awesome.

What ruins this movie is Kevin Costner. He's as bad (if not worse) than I remember. Its sad (and funny) that Cary Elwes is a MUCH BETTER Robin Hood than Costner and he was playing it for laughs.

Hey, you know what? I really love this movie! :cmad:
Whatever, people! :cmad:

Seriously, I do love this movie.
But damn, imagine the exact same movie, only with Cary Elwes instead of Kevin Costner?
Best Robin Hood movie ever! (after the Errol Flynn one :o)

I liked this movie too. Sure Robin hood had a American accent...but I thought the movie was still fun popcorn movie

When time travel is invented, we're going back to 1991 to make sure that happens!

And it's another brilliant Alan Rickman performance too.

I read somewhere that the role was originally intended for Mel Gibson. Now THAT would have kicked ass.

Mad Max as Robin Hood. lol.

Also, instead of a horse, he rides his Pursuit Special

I don't get all the hate toward Kevin Costner, if anything the lame subplots kill the movie, like narratively it had some problems but Costner was the least of the, overall I liked it, it's entertaining to say the least but nothing beats Erroyl Flynn's Robin Hood:cmad:

Yeah, but I think Mel put his mullet to better use in Braveheart (so did the Academy). All jokes aside, I really did like Prince of Thieves. I thought it did a very good job of subtley injecting some modern elements with the period setting.

Oh, and Morgan Freeman = Badass.

Not really. Costner hurt this movie in more ways than one. The man actually re-edited the movie which pissed off Reynolds, the director. I haven't seen a Directors Cut, but I can imagine the changes that Costner made. Example, at times the movie seems more like an action movie than an adventure movie. It should be the other way around. Secondly, the love story is VERY under-developed. And, speaking of Marion...there is a MAJOR inconsistancy in the movie. In the beginning she is a tough chick, even fighting Robin Hood at one point. Yet, at the end she's the classic damsel in distress.

That line was great, he had quite a few good ones in that film.
Yeah, so was just so over the top evil it was amazing.

"Wait a minute. Robin Hood steals money from my pocket, forcing me to hurt the public, and they love him for it?

That's it then. Cancel the kitchen scraps for lepers and orphans, no more merciful beheadings, and call off Christmas!"

The two performances that stick out are that of Alan Rickman and Morgan Freeman. Rickman probably thought the movie sucked and just had fun with it to not bore himself. Freeman knew that Costner was horrible so gave it his all in order to save any scene that had together.

I have yet to see a Robin Hood movie rate higher in my books than the Robin of Sherwood TV series. :oldrazz:

Robin of Sherwood is reportedly the first Robin Hood incarnation to use a character brought back from the crusades as well, so Azeem the Moor owes a lot to Nasir the Saracen. :oldrazz:
