A rather simple picture of Power Girl. I tried to emphasise her strength rather than her body. I hope I managed this, to some degree at least. However, I'm pretty pleased with the anatomy, as I think its at least somewhat within the realm of possibility. I thought about putting some more shading in this one, but I felt it harmed the overall image, so I left it as it is. Overall, I'm pleased with this one. Here she is:

For this one, I went with a rather basic version of the Question surrounded by smoke. However, you always hear people say "less is more", and I think that applies to this as well. I'm pretty pleased with the anatomy of it all, as well as the detail and folds in his clothes. I think the hat could use just a smidge more work, but it's not too bad. Overall, I think this one turned out ok. Here he is:

For this one, I went with the Tim Drake version of Robin, in his red and black costume. I'm pretty pleased with the anatomy on this one, as i think it's all rather well proportioned and I think the foreshortening works well. Yeah, the head could be a bit larger, But I wouldn't change it by much. I do think I should have changed the hair a bit though. But yeah, despite a few minor quibbles, I think this one's pretty ok too. Here it is:

C'mon, who else could it have been for this one? He's the greatest superhero of all time, so it had to be Superman. I'm pretty happy with this one, though I think I might have made him a tad too chunky in the middle. But I am pleased with the shading on the abs and the cape. The face could be a bit better, but I don't think it's too bad. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with this one. Here it is:

I've wanted to do this one for some time, and I figured this would be my first chance to draw this. Obviously this is an homage to the well known poster for the film "Scarface", and to get it fairly close to the poster I used a simplified style for the suit, eliminating all lines and seams other than where the two halves meet. I wasn't too confident with it at first, but now that everything's completed, I think it looks really effective. There's not much to say about the anatomy on this one, but I am fairly pleased with what's on show. Overall, I'm really pleased with how this picture turned out. Here he is:

And for this one, it's the villainous version of the Man of Steel, Ultraman! I figured that if Superman is the ultimate nice guy, who would benevolently save a distressed plane, Ultraman would be the ultimate ********, instead being the one causing the destruction. As such, I chose to have him completely wrecking something in a dynamic manner. I think the figure looks pretty intense bursting through the helpless plane, hopefully jumping out of the page. I think the anatomy is ok, but getting everything right while foreshortening is something I always struggle with. I am happy with the shadows and cross hatching however. So overall, I think this one is ok, but could have been a bit better. Here he is:

For this one I went with the Ventriloquist and Scarface. I know it's not a very dynamic picture, but there's only so much you can do with a guy holding a dummy. I think it turned out ok though, as I pretty pleased with the downtrodden expression I managed to do on the Ventriloquist. I'm pretty pleased with the creases and folds as well. Overall, it's a little bland, but I like this one. Here they are:

Of course it's gonna be Diana for this one. I'm really pleased with how this turned out, as I think I managed to make her look strong and feminine at the same time. As for the costume, I went with the look I did way back when, but I think it turned out much better in this one for one reason or another. The anatomy also seems pretty good for the most part, though the right leg could have used some work, and I think the lasso turned out pretty good too. I did make another time-lapse video for this one, but the footage seems to have been lost to the aether, so I might be able to put that up later on, but I might not. Overall, I'm really pleased with this one, and I think it might be the best thing I've done so far. Here she is:

I.. wha? Mr Mxyzptlk? Well, like he says, there's an x in his name, and that's the best I could think of. Or maybe he used his fifth dimensional powers to take over my mind and only think of him. Either way, I'm pretty pleased with how this one turned out. I went with some exaggerated anatomy to show the otherworldly-ness of the character, hence the skinny arms and legs and big bulbous head. I think it turned out pretty ok, and all came together to get a pretty good version of the character.

Yes, this one is another cheat, but at least Y is at the start of one of his names. In any case, I'm pretty pleased with this one. I think the anatomy, for the most part, is pretty good, and I think the shading turned out ok as well. I quite like what I did with the Lanten logo behind him as well, as I think it gives off the impression of it bursting with power. However, I'm not completely happy with the right hand and the head, but I don't think they're disastrously wrong. Overall, I think this one's ok. Here it is:

And in the final piece in this alphabetical series, it had to be Zatanna. Again, I think this one turned out pretty well, bar a few gripes here and there. I'm pretty pleased with most of the anatomy, though I might have drawn her legs a *smidge* too long. Her left hand really could have used some work though. I also like what I did with the hair, as I think it has a pretty good "swept up by the wind" look to it. I also quite like the shoes for some reason. I tried doing another time-lapse video for this one, but I think someone must have shouted "on kcabyalp fo egatoof" because it's still not working. Hopefully I'll be able to rescue it some day. But for now, I'm pretty pleased with how this one turned out. Here she is:

For this one, I wanted to try and emphasise Superman's strength, hence him tearing through a steel wall. It's a rather simple piece, but I'm pleased with how the anatomy and shading turned out. Also, I'm very pleased with the look of his head, so much so that I'm gonna try and re-capture that in future pictures. The whole piece seems very Jim Lee-esque to me, which I blame on reading Superman: For Tomorrow before drawing this. Overall, I'm very happy with how this one turned out. Here he is:

Your work has improved a lot, but it still suffers from severe anatomy problems. A lot of your pieces fall into this strange category of characters having well rendered limbs, but the limbs happen to be in the wrong place. I can assure you, though, that many of the problems I'm seeing can be fixed rather quickly with some cut and pasting. You just need a better understanding of the human body.

I do have two questions for you; how old are you and are you serious about making a career from illustrating? (From the looks of your improvement, you seem pretty serious about your art)

I know I have some problems with anatomy, but I do try and learn from my mistakes. I've just turned 20, and I'd love to pursue illustrating as a career, which is why I'm trying to find some sort of art course. This is an original piece inspired by the song "The Man Who Sold The World" originally by David Bowie and covered by Nirvana as well as the Sandman series of comics by Neil Gaiman and various artists. Rather than depict the events from the song, I chose to depict the sale of the World itself. I also chose to give the main character a smiling, hopeful look that contrasted with what I think is a song with some regret to it. Maybe he felt he got a bad price for the planet. Maybe he was displeased with the direction the new management took things. Maybe he never should have sold it in the first place. Who knows what happened to cause the melancholy sound of the song, but something went south with this sale. As for the picture itself, I'm really pleased with how it turned out. I'm happy with the shading on the jacket, though I could have lightened it up a bit, and I'm quite pleased with the hands as well. Also, I think I managed to draw a pretty good Earth, though the clouds were surprisingly hard to do. However, I do wish some of the smaller stars popped a bit more, but some of them still stand out. Overall, yeah, I think this turned out ok for an original piece. Here it is:

A simple Batman picture. I think the anatomy's pretty good on this one, and I think I made the face look similar to previous Batman pictures I've drawn. I always like giving him the really big, wide chin that's sort of inspired from the animated series. And I like most of the shading, but I don't think the batarangs pop too much. As it is, they kind of fade into the cape. But yeah, a simple piece, but one I like quite a bit. Here it is:

Another original character! I haven't got any backstory for her (yet), but I just had an urge to draw a woman using a rocket pack-esque thing. I was originally against using "Girl" in the name, but none of the synonyms I could come up with had as much of a ring to it as "Rocket Girl", so I decided to stick with it. I think on the whole she looks good, though I still think I need to practice adding folds to clothing. And I didn't want to use too many heavy black areas on her for the same reason I don't on Superman. But yeah, I'm pretty pleased with this one, and I may come back to this character farther down the line. Here she is:

A Close-up of the Man of Steel this time. I'm pretty happy with it, but the head is WAAAAYYYYY too small. It was only a quick piece, but still, I should have done it better. And I think I went over board with the area of heavy shading under the rib cage. Oh well. I do like the head, despite how disproportionate it is, I think I managed well with the details. And I feel like I managed to keep it fairly similar looking to the last Superman picture I did. But yeah, I'm kinda disappointed with myself for this one. Here it is:

Happy Independence Day, Americans! Though I'm from the UK, I really appreciate the idealistic version of the American Dream that Cap represents. Freedom, equality and egalitarianism for all! As for the picture itself, I'm pretty pleased with it, especially the face and the individual scales, though they did take ages to draw, so I'm gonna figure out a way of simplifying them if I do another Captain America picture. The shield could still use some work, but I think it's better than the last one I drew. Also, I'm happy with how quickly I finished this one, managing to complete it in about six or seven hours with a number of breaks within that time. So yeah, Happy Independence day to any American followers of my work, and I'm pleased with how this one turned out. Here he is:

Another original character. For this one I designed some sort of evil wizard conducting some dark ritual in a lost cavern. I went for a very basic design for the cloak, but I feel that I did well with the folds and creases in it. The helmet was fun to draw, as I wanted to give it some crazy horns as well as strange bejeweled eye coverings. I also feel I did well with the shadows, as they actually seem to have some relation to the lantern that he's holding, and the ones around the outside of the cave mouth draw the focus towards the centre of the picture. So yeah, I'm pretty pleased with this one. Here he is:

Blade vs one of the undead. I've been wanting to do this one for AAAAAAAAAAAGES but just never got around to it. I'm pretty pleased with it, as Blade seems pretty badass and I think I did well with the folds in the clothing of both characters. Blade was a lot of fun to draw, especially designing his body armour, and I'm glad I got to try out drawing a face from the profile view. Also fun to get some practice on; the vampire's feet! I don't think I've ever done an un-booted foot before, but I think they came out well here. And I decided to go with the blank white eyes for the vampire and a skull-like nose to make it look less like Blade was choking some random dude. But yeah, overall this was a fun piece to work on, and I think the final result turned out pretty well. Here it is:

An original character of mine. Jayashree Kapoor is a British-Indian former English student who's taken it upon herself to protect innocent people from dangerous and violent trolls. During a summer trip to Finland, the camp she was staying at was attacked by a group of trolls, and she grabbed the first thing she could find in order to defend her and her friends. After succeeding, she felt a strong sense of empowerment, coupled with her strong sense of right and wrong, and she decided to defend those that can't defend themselves from troll raids.

As for the picture itself, I'm pretty pleased with it. I decided to draw a woman with a different body shape, and with help from this tutorial bobalob93.deviantart.com/art/T… I think it turned out pretty well. I'm not sure that her Indian heritage has shown through too much, but I'm gonna try and work on that over time. Also, I think I made the short hair look pretty good too. The troll could have used a bit of work, but since he's not the focus, I don't mind too much. But on the whole, I'm pretty pleased with this one. Here she is:

This is a rather simple piece, but I'm really proud of this one. The pose is kinda bland, but I think I did really well with the anatomy and detail. I think I made him look suitably stocky, reflecting his short stature, and I feel that I managed a good combination of anger, determination and age in his face. I think the claws look suitably dangerous, and I'm pleased with what I did with the shading. Overall, I'm really happy with this one, and I think it turned out loads better than the last Wolverine picture I did. Here he is:
