"The 2008 Republican National Convention is the latest nominating convention in history - and it is certain to be a pivotal event in the presidential election. From Minneapolis-Saint Paul, it will be full steam ahead to November 4, 2008, for the Party's nominee."

The Republican National Convention will be held from September 1-4, 2008.

Same rules as the Democratic National Convention thread.

If McCain goes with Pawlenty over Romney it will damage my already less-than-unbreakable conviction for this campaign.

I need Romney as VP to get me excited enough to actively root FOR McCain rather than against Obama.

I'm guessing Cantor or Pawlenty will be the VP nominee.

They should've kept him out. Anything Cheney says will only hurt McCain's chances. If there is one person McCain should try to distance himself from more than Bush, it is Dick Cheney.

Was heading into this thread to post that same news.

I agree. They've fully tied McCain to the Bush Administration with this move.

Is Palin even on the short list? I think McCain's advisors want Romney, but McCain is too damn stubborn. he wants his friend Pawlenty. I'll tell you this much...if Romney would offer to share his secret of perfect hair in exchange for electing McCain/Romney, they'd win in a land slide. :cwink:

The only thing that draws my interest at the Republican National Convention this year is Ron Paul's official announcement of his Campaign for Liberty. I really hope this movement grows.

Sources are saying that McCain's shortlist has been narrowed to Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, Colin Powell, Sarah Palin, Joe Lieberman, and Tom Ridge.

It'll be Pawlenty. Palin's got scandal. McCain hates Romney. Lieberman is way too...Lieberman. Ridge isn't viable. Powell I just don't see happening after all the crap the RNC has done to him. And Tim is McCain's BFF.

I hope that there is Mention of the FairTax at the Convention. That is something that this country really needs. Does anyone want to discuss it?

I figured not. :(

Again, I ask, can crickets yawn? :D

I have yet to hear anything about the announcement of the keynote speaker. I'm curious to know if the rumors of Bobby Jindal are true. If they're smart, they'll go with Arnold.

I doubt it. Maybe I missed it, but I was under the impression Arnold wasn't interested in endorsing either candidate. From things I've heard him say in the last few months I got a Colin Powell vibe from him, in that he'd rather endorse Obama, but feels an obligation to the GOP not to do so so he's staying out of it.

I want it to be Jindal. Soundbytes GALORE!!! :D

Didn't Arnold endorse McCain during primary.....I'm pretty sure he wants McCain in the office...the only reason I think he may lower rhetoric is he doesn't want to piss of Obama if he thinks he'll get elected or his wife is pressuring him to shut up. But Arnold would naturally align with McCain politically and economically than he would Obama. Arnold is liberal socially, but that's it......he's a free market capitalist, holds a great personal disdain towards socialism and government bureacracy.
