I would love for someone to tell me what's wrong with CorporalHicks' just because I none of his films were directed by Fellini or Bergman doesn't make his list any less relevant. Moviemaking is about speaking to something inside you, obviously those are the films that speak to him, nothing wrong with that. Anybody who thinks different just come off as film snubs.
Well here's my list, in no particular order. (ther'te only numbered so I don't have to recount to know how much I named)
1)Citizan Kane ( No introductions neccessary. Its a technical masterpeice. Unfortulately the ending was ruined for me by The Simpsons.
2)Animal House ( Best comedy out there. I'm around that age so i can relate easily to the charcters)
3)La Jetee ( ****ing creeped me out when I watched. The noition of viewing your death as a child and those unconforable closeups got to me that night after a few drinks and its stuck with me ever since)
4)Raiders of The Lost Ark ( If adventure has a name then it most be Indiana Jones. Every now and again its fun to go into a world full of adventure and wonder. Raiders does that better than the rest)
5)Sin City ( Like reading a comic book. The internal monologues are the best thing about this film even though its style made the headlines)
6)Clerks ( The ultimate low budget film. Movie's like this made me realise its possible to become a film maker.)
7)Pulp Fiction ( Just sit back and listen. Some of the very best dialogue ever in a film. Its inventive in its narrative and was shot, at times, like a classic Noir)
8) Batman 89 ( Some may slate me for this but the style of this movie is outstanding. The smartest thing I've ever heard about a director is when a friend of mine said that Burton would make the perfect DP
9) Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back ( Perfect ending, the bad guys win, the noition of this blew my mind. The drama it creatred and excitment to see Jedi makes this the best in the saga.)
10) Fight Club ( Again the internal monoluge makes this great. Norton as always is perfect. Pitt has his best performance here, he really suits the brooding type, shame he doesn't to it more)
11) Sleepers ( Not a truly great movie. But something about it draws me in everytime. This movie came out when I was nine or ten, I really wasn't interested in this type of movie but for some reason I really wantec to see it. It was the line in the trailer that sucked me in, "Its payback time!" Don't know what it is about this movie but it's still my favourite)
12) His Girl Friday ( Gary Grant makes this film. The sharpest ****ing character I've ever seen, just quip after quip after quip, outsanding)
13) Goodfellas ( Best mob movie out there. Pesci is morbidly entertaining, makes the film great)
14) Rocky ( No film has ever captured the human spirit like this movie does. If yoy get knocked down, get the **** back up, no matter what, Rocky inspiries me.
15) Jarurassic Park: First film I ever saw in threaters. Although the dino look fake now Speibergs direction and the score by, I think, John Williams makes you feel that it's real)
16) Do The Right Thing: (Striking colour. I saw this in the middle of winter and started to sweat it made the theater hot. The title has long been debated. My take is that Lee did the Right Thing when he threw the trash can through the window, he turned the mobs attention away from the owners and possible saved there lives)
17) Die Hard ( Best 18 rated movie. All the vioklence comes out of story most action films aren't like that, they just blow **** up. This didn't it spent time on its characters and made you care for McClane
18) Chasing Amy ( Smith tackles a declicate subject here, there's not many films that deal with male sexual insecurities but he does it here and doesn't make it chessey, which it could easily have been.)
19) The Breakfast Club ( The definative teen movie. Although i wasn't sure if the scene where they confess theyark secrets to each other was truley earned, no teen movie has come close to it in emotional terms, therefore it defines its genre
20) Fear and loathing in Las Vegas ( Gilligham is a visual genius, no other director could make this film work so well. Depp, vastilt over-rated in my eyes, gives his best performance here.)
21) The Usual Suspects ( Terrific crime film, Spacey's break through role and the shock at the end is whats most talked about but when you rewatch the film and see a different peformnce by Spacey, it shows how much work and planning Singer put into this)
22) Good Will Hunting ( A oringial idea, Williams is so good in this movie, not a bit of the Genie or Mre Doubtfire in his performance. Affleck is actually good in this movie, one of the highlights is his "You owe it to us" speech.
23)Edward Sisccorhands ( Worth watching for Elfman's score alone but has more to offer, y offer I mean weird ass **** including Anthohy Michael Hall as a bully WTF)
24)Forrest Gump ( American History viewed through the eyes of a simpleton. But Gump to me is human perfection, ya you read that right, a guy blessed without any intellegence so that all he good see is the good in people, if we had more people like him we might have less technology but we might all be a little ahhpier.
25) Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 ( It's Spidey! Nuff Said)
