There is a lot of excitement(Naturally so) for the Silver Surfer's appearance in this film but lets not forget that this is still and F4 movie and they should still be the focus
With that said in what ways would you like them to evolve in the sequel ?

For me I'd like to see:

Sue-take more of a role as mother to the group,i want to see her show that side to Johnny instead of just chastising him
I also want to see her relationship with Ben explored as well

Reed-I want him to invent, lets see him create, the Fantastic car gives him this opportunity and also when Surfer arrives lets see him solve the situation with his brain.....It also wouldn't hurt to see him a bit more confident with Sue

Johnny-Not a great deal more to do with Johnny from the first in terms of his character but he has to evolve into a more responsible adult,he'll always be a practical joker/care free guy but there needs to be scene's showing his other side where he does care about what happens to others and helping ppl otherwise he becomes merely superficial....his love for the other 3 needs to be shown

The Thing-I think they made a slight mistake in the first when he seemed to accept his fate at the end, part of his character is that he wants to be normal again more than the others b/c of his looks
The way they hopefully will go with his character is showing his relationship with Alicia which will give him a reason to forget his worries to an extent

Great thread concept Hunter!

I really think Ben and Johnny were captured perfectly in the first film. As long as they continue that same motif with the sequel all will be well.

But Reed and Sue? Massive work to be done. There is great potential with the actors involved, but their talents need to be tapped into--and the script is so important in realizing that goal.

Good point, I do think some of the things you listed needs to be displayed. Hopefully they will add them.

I'm worried the Sue Reed relationship might be downplayed once more. :(

Well IMO they barely captured it last time.

Dam SS wedding crasher. :p

I would absolutely LOVE to see the Reed/Sue relationship from the comics: Stable, loving, happy (with a few, brief exceptions in some issues).

How novel would that be? Name me one other superhero movie with that kind of relationship.

The angst filled romantic relationship has become such a cliche' in this genre, that I would honestly write a $1000 check to Tim Story right now if he would promise me he won't go that way.

Sue- I would like to see alba make me feel like I am seeing Sue Storm. I had a crush on sue as a kid and its kind of odd watching alba, its like watching a teenager trying to be a woman, it did not work for me in FF1. I just want her to show more maternal instinct especially towards Ben, not just Johnny.

Reed-Reed has to show some more of the genius complex thing, something that sets him totally apart from anyone else including Doom. Reeds brilliance was the whole reason Doom hated him in the comics. Many of us can identify with Doom on that, we all know someone who was too smart for there own good or worse we were that guy.

Johnny-Tim got it right for the comics. Now does he have the courage to take Johnny beyond the comic pages as Byrne tried to do years ago when he married him off to alicia/lyja

The Thing-One line sums it up at the end of the movie the thing says to Reed he is fine with being the Thing, this is the one thing that you can't really excuse Tim Story for, even if the suits twisted his arm he should have known that this destroyed a lot of what the truama of being the Thing has meant to fans of the character. As an editor the marco polo lines and other things could have been excused but the lame attempt to end the movie on a feel good fiasco was very dissapointing.

As far as I am concerned Story has to correct this as it just has left this lingering bitter taste of crap. An easy out would be him saying to Johnny early on that he does not want Reed to feel guilty but that it is tearing him up inside.

 Agreed. I don't care how they handle it. Ben better be back to his blue-eyed, self-loathing self for this film.
"I'm fine as is," my asterisk. :cmad: The single worst moment in the film for any of the 4.

I think that line was a result of the problem with the structure (and editing) of the first film. The primary conflict throughout the film was that Ben had become the Thing. . . oh, and by the way, at the end of the Film, Doom turns evil and they have to fight him.

Since most of the Doom development was left on the cutting room floor, the primary conflict was Ben.

Since this was designed to be a "feel-good" summer movie with a happy ending, they threw that line in there (otherwise theater goers would have left saying . . . "But what about Ben? How can they be happy and celebrating when they still have the primary problem?"

I don't agree with it, but I think that's the logic. Since it is just one line, I HOPE that the film-makers don't tie their hands with it, and there can still be some conflict regarding this issue.

And while I don't think he should be "fine as is" he should get to a point, as he was in the comics, at which he doesn't spend all his time moping about it, but rather use self-effacing humor to deal with it.

Just more time of movie: this is the most important thing for good relation of chacacters!

Sue-- You can't speak, what isn't written.

Reed-- You can't speak, what isn't written.

Johnny-- Fewer one-liners, more brotherly instinct towards Sue.

Ben-- Less, I'm feeling sorry for myself. More I'm going to kick the villains ass.

I want to see them go to bat for each other in battle, kind of like the way Ben and Johnny did in the comics during the last arc against The Hulk just prior to Civil War...that was just perfect, imo....

I want to see general concern, and fear for each others well-being, just like a REAL family has.

OMG! Fear for eachother's well being! That would be AWESOME!

Sue -- More Maternal stuff, as said... Alba has it, the rest of the cast testifies to it... let's see it. Let her be a 'hot mama' instead of a 'hot girlfriend.' Honestly, I can't even speak highly enough about the maternal stuff... you can't stick Ultimate Sue into 616 FF... it just doesn't work. Just cuz Alba looks young doesn't mean... meh... you get the point.

Reed -- Don't dumb down Reed Richards! He's a genious, he knows plenty more than fourth grade science. He just invented a machine to take away their powers, at a whim! Lets see him use big man's words... and be good at explaining it... at least to Sue, who can translate for the rest of us... Allegories for super-science can be very fun, lets see it. Also, Reed needs to be able to man up sometimes and take charge, especially when it comes to defending his family.

Johnny-- Spot on... but I'd say let him learn something... everyone from FF learned a lesson about life except Johnny, as though he were perfect from the start... even the recent cartoon, which I hate, took time to point out that being super-irresponsible has consequences.

Ben -- They got him solid in the first movie... I would suggest, as much as I love the actress, not putting Alicia in the limelight, especially since they stole her Silver Surfer storyline...

Yes, she was a little too "Obi Wan talking to Anakin in Attack of the Clones". Too much scolding not enough nice, so she came off as somewhat unlikeable/stick in the mud.

It's quite a confidence booster when a woman agrees to marry you. I'm sure he will be more takecharge and less dork-sided.

He was the only thing they got right in the first movie. The ONLY thing.

The Thing-
I think they made a slight mistake in the first when he seemed to accept his fate at the end,

Slight?!? LOL
That was so wrong it was even more offensively wrong than his Comicbook Convention Costume Contest appearance! That was where it got surreal for me, as if Fox/Frost/Story must've been ACTIVELY TRYING to sabotage the character for hardcore fans.

I'd like much better chemistry between Reed and Sue. They should also emphasize more on Reed's intelect and Ben should keep the inner struggle just not as much as in FF1.

A more maternal Sue would be great but i have some doubts about Alba's acting chops in that department.Or should i say believability.
