I have seen a lot of movies. Too many to be proud of. However, there are only a handful of movies that have scenes within them that are the most beautiful, amazing, and awesome pieces of work that you have seen. These scenes evoke emotion and fill you with so much wonder that you seem to not be in the theatre anymore. With any scene, the music must also be pitch perfect to accompany the visuals into making the experience even more breath taking.

A scene usually lasts a few minutes so mull it over. Think about what scene within a movie you feel deserves to be on this list. Nominate however many you like. However, please post the movie and the scene (a picture or youtube link helps) and tell why you think it deserves to win. I will then compile a poll and we will vote.

I will start this off. I just recently watched my bluray copy of Half Blood Prince. I remember the cave sequence in the theatre but at home on bluray, it is stunning. The music, the cinematography, and the graphics are all top caliber. It is just a beautiful moment.

The entire cave sequence is amazing. The way the magic illumination in the cave lights their faces and their surroundings to accompany what is going on and then Dumbledore summoning fire to save them. I applaud everyone who had a hand in that scene. The set also looks amazing.

For me it was the scene in LOTR ROTK when Theoden arrived on the battlefield at Gondor with thousands of horsemen.

Also, (and maybe its because I was so young when I saw it in the theater at the time) the scene in Superman II when Superman lands on the flag pole outside the window and asks Zod if he cares to step outside.
I swear I almost jumped up and said hell yeah, kick his a$$ supes.

The scene in Children of Men where they run into that bulding whilst the war is going on around them. Then she gives birth to the baby in the building, and they walk out. EVERYONE just stops fighting and looks on in awe. Truly one of THE most amazing scenes in cinematic history.

Won't let me embed it so here's the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yuZSmSBLWAg&feature=related

Now those who know me know I'm not exactly a sensitive soul, but this brought me so close to tears. And I don't really know why.

The scene in Dune when all of the Fremen are riding on the worms

2001 star gate sequence

Didn't think much of the Basic Instinct scene, guess more shocking back then but is overrated to be honest, thought it was one of the boring parts of the film lol

oh, and anakin vs. obi-wan

Utterly mindboggling. Abstract, poetic cinema. One of the greats indeed.

I could come up with 5, but since I'm in a hurry I'll give you my 2 favorites in order:

#1: "The Godfather" (Francis Ford Coppola, 1972)...The christening of the baby and Michael renouncing Satan while simultaneously having all of his adversaries gunned down.

[YT]-eu3DWJjYP0[/YT]

#2: "Raiders of the Lost Ark" (Steven Spielberg, 1981)...Indy, on horseback, trails after Belloq and the Nazis in pursuit of the Ark.

I can't access youtube on my computer, so no links from me sorry.

But the one i nominate is Luke vs Vader in cloud city from empire.
Empire was the first SW movie I saw. Saw it in the cinema back in 1980 and always recall the vibe I got from that sequence, especially the part where after their 1st round Luke is wandering around alone, and there is the ominus hum of the machinery, which is very apt and cool for bracing us for Vader's sudden re-appearance. When Vader finally uses his force powers against him, it just steps into absolute awesome as the Imperial March theme kicks in.

Another nomination is from Ghostbusters, when they are exploring the library at the start, absolutely perfect mix of humour and horror, very funny and very creepy, with the absolute corker of a punchline with Ray's plan.

Also..Superman's first appearance, just the perfect build up with Clark sizing up the situation, the phone box, the revolving doors, catching Lois, her classic line 'You've got me...but who's got you?', and the total rush you get when he just casually catches the copter.

That movie has the best opening credits sequence too.

This, The Ark opening scene from 'Raiders of the Lost Ark' & the Carbon Freezing sequence from 'Empire Strikes Back'.

Good choices and descriptions. Both are two of my favorite scenes of all-time...especially the Superman scene. The build-up, the shirt rip and the iconic theme gave me goosebumps.

1)the long shot in Goodfellas (of Henry and g/f entering the club through the kitchen). The technical aspects, especially the lighting changes, deserve some recognition

2) The opening adventure of Raiders of the Lost Ark. It was a fantastic mini-adventure. A great tone-setter.

3) Running from the plane in North by Northwest. My favorite of the cinema iconic imagery

4) The opening credits for The Fall.

5) This scene in the Fisher King as a schizo- Robin Williams follows his true love, he imagines Grand Central turning into a dance

I have to say, I know TDK probably gets too much mention for some people to be ok with, but no other scene in a film has given me the same feeling the end of TDK gave me. As Gordon and Batman stand there realizing how truly screwed they are, as the Joker had won without even technically winning. The ultimate moment of defeat... and then just as the music changes, Batman's heroism jumps to a whole other level:

"I killed those people"

From that line until the shot of him ring up the on ramp into the light as Gordon says "...a Dark Knight", I have never had the chills I've had watching that with anything else, even now. The worry and fear in Gordon's voice as he says "They'll hunt you" as we see him reluctantly destroy the bat signal, and then his reborn confidence as he tells his son that yes, they will hunt him...becasue he can take it. The parallelism between Harvey, the hero gotham needed but didn't deserve, a shining knight, and Batman, the hero gotham deserved but doesn't need right now, a dark knight.

Ghostbusters will always be my absolute favorite film of all time, but Good Lord, The Dark Knight had the greatest ending I've ever seen.

You need to watch the endings of more movies. Like The Good, the Bad and the Ugly above.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worl'd End was a pretty mediocre, convoluted mess. However, Beckett's death scene is an amazing scene and it is also very beautiful and so well done:

Too much new stuff around here..

Thanks for posting some of that great old stuff.
