The Acolyte: Episode 5 (Spoiler Thread)

Man, Mae’s left me pretty confused. She was going to hand herself over to the Jedi in the previous episode, then she begged Osha not to do it.

Well she needed protection from Mr. Sexy Sith… now she doesn’t think the Jedi could protect her, so she was initially hoping to just disappear. But, now has a hide in plain site card.

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. The reveal wasn't a huge shock, but losing Yord (who I thought stepped it up this episode) and especially Jecki, who was an absolute bad ass, certainly was.

I certainly wasn't expecting both to go. Really good action and obviously there are more mysteries to come with Sol.

I bought the switcheroo myself as Sol had just lost a number of Jedi close to him and had the bad guy messing with his head throughout also.

"Something that I've noticed is first seasons will end on what should have been the break into act two," she says. "It feels like everyone's really expecting [their shows] to get a second season, and I don't feel that's a good idea. I threw everything into season 1, because who knows what's going to happen?"

Headland does say she has "four or five major mysteries" she'd like to hit in season 2 if the show gets renewed by Disney+.

Sounds good.
So she threw everything into season 1 because she doesn't know if there is a s2. But then there are still 5 MAJOR mysteries she's saving for season 2. :eyeroll:

She’s basically saying many first seasons end on a cliffhanger that never gets resolved if it isn’t renewed for a second season.

Thus, the first season easily works as a stand alone mini-series and doesn’t need to be part of a larger whole in order to work.

That’s the best way to approach shows, each season being self contained. Some do that, others don’t; thus it’s a common quote / approach.

I mean, he doesn't exactly call himself a Sith. So, he is likely to be chalked up to some random Dark sider.

This article states flat out that he is a Sith Lord including a quote from Jacinto himself. Wookiepedia has also followed suit.

So much for that theory.

I think they might officially be canonizing Acolyte as the Sith's version of Padawan.

I'm still neutral on this show. I don't hate it, but I sure as hell don't like it either. It has juuuust enough intrigue to dangle in front of me like a carrot on a stick. But I'm scared they can't stick the landing. The fight scene was in deed cool, I mean the stuff that wasn't obscured by trees. But everything else is still kinda AIGHT??... The deaths was surprisingly brutal, but still didn't hit hard cause I feel the characters were hella underdeveloped. Shocking since they had these name actors playing them...but whatever I guess lol.

Is it really a risk? Stenberg hasn't been great, but at least they've had material. The others were just there to die. No writing and little acting, outside of broad stroke caricature. To the point that I wouldn't know any of the characters you listed by name outside of Yord and that's because of his vocal fanbase.

Outside of the flashback, the only proper acting has come from Squid Games and Jason.
I might be biased because of some of the actors there, but I was super excited about Trinity, Tommen and X-23 in Star Wars. Yord also won me over very quickly. Idk, just feels like the show won't be the same without them.

I was excited for Trinity, but they telegraphed. I think Keen is great but she's done nothing on the show. And that's the general issue. I hope the show is different then it has been for the most part so far, because the show's not been great. Centering on Sol and Nameless, who have had easily the best material and the best performance, as opposed to a group of obviously coming fodder without character works much better imo.

I'm enjoying this quite a bit, it's the best Star Wars I've seen from Disney.

I do think it was a mistake to kill the little green girl, she was fun, but I liked the rest of it. The lightsaber fights, for example, had better choreography than anything in the sequel trilogy. I also understand the villain's motivation -- he wants to practice freely and he wants an accolyte, it works.

You've watched Andor?

No, I' was burned out by the sequels and parts of the toxic fambase and have not watched any of the TV shows, but several people have said Andor was great. I'll probably watch it after this is done. I also hear some of the cartoons are good.

Ok so as expected as that reveal was, Manny Jacinto did such an incredible job that I don’t even care. He was SO good and badass and cool and sexy, I absolutely loved it. Also the action was just fantastic. Whatever it is that they’re doing different with the lightsaber-fu is phenomenal and they should definitely do more of it. Daphne Keen in particular was a total badass and I’m sad to see her and Yord go, even if their characters were pretty hollow.

That said, the writing on this show continues to be terrible. Dialogue between Mae, Osha, and Sol is especially bad as they continue to tiptoe around whatever actually happened that night because it’s not time yet to reveal all that. The start of this episode was also paced and edited really weirdly as everyone was separated somehow and they kept cutting back and forth between them. It’s very disappointing that the bad continues to undermine the good in this show.

You know....I remember when Paige Tico died in TLJ. She was only in it for five minutes, but her death was still genuinely heartbreaking.

I wonder if those 'shipping' Osha and Qimir will get the same flak reylos got?:eyeroll:
