Halloween is it's own beast. But most of us have our Thanksgiving, Hannukah, Christmas, and other traditions. And heck, we even got a new New Year's flick this year.

So let's talk about them. Throw out suggestions for others.

This thread has a much looser vibe then the Halloween one. No structure. This year I plan on Thanksgiving week and then doing Christmas from Black Friday on.

I mentioned getting really into Christmas stuff post-Thanksgiving, but I like to sprinkle it in the earlier parts of November as well. Since 2019 me and mine have had a tradition to ring in post-spooky season.

Mini Candy Cane Review: I'm not one who tries to dwell on the "good ole days", but there was something different about the holidays as kid. Something that stretches those days into decades and even when they kind of suck, that don't. Because Christmas lights make everything better. This movie captures that well.

I absolute have to revisit Jingle Jangle this year. I'm more of a musical person nowadays, so I might like it even more. It's definitely one of Netflix's better Christmas movies.
Did not know this existed. Will be giving it a look this year.

I gotta check out a comprehensive list of holiday movies to see what I haven't seen yet. Unlike Halloween where there's an endless selection of horror movies, I feel like I get stuck with the same rotation every year around the holidays: Home Alone 1 & 2, A Christmas Story, Christmas Vacation, Muppet Christmas Carol, The Grinch, Elf, Die Hard, etc. so I should break away from the familiar a little bit.

No Hallmark movies though. :o

It was the same for me for the longest time. Have you considered horror flicks? They can inject a new flavor.

A few I rather like,
- Better Watch Out (2016)
- Anna and the Apocalypse (2017)
- Black Christmas (1974)
- Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale (2010)
- It's a Wonderful Knife (2023)
- Silent Night (2021)
- Christmas Bloody Christmas (2021)
- I Trapped the Devil (2019)

There is stuff like Gremlins and Krampus, but I'm sure you've seen those. Also apparently Maniac Cop 2 takes place at Christmas.

Deadly Games (1989) and Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 (1987) are all time weird fun.

For something a bit more old fashion sweetness, I adore Christmas in Connecticut. Stanwyck as her usual marvelous self.

I half paid attention to the Black Christmas remake back in the day when it was on at somebody's house but that hardly counts. Silent Night is one I definitely want to see. Actually both recent movies titled Silent Night are on my watchlist, to be honest (the one with Keira and the other action one with Joel Kinnaman).

I also regrettably haven't seen Krampus yet so that's another one to check out.

I forgot about the Kinnaman one. And I also can't remember if I've watched it. Which isn't good I guess? Though I could've just been super tired. :funny:

Another if you haven't seen it is In Bruges. Not a supery Christmas flick, but a very good one that takes place during the season.

Oh I LOVE In Bruges. Haven't seen it in 15 years. Definitely remember a lot of it but I don't remember it taking place around Christmas for some reason.

I’ve got your next Christmas classic right here!

Y'all best stay away from the Kinnaman Silent Night. That one was brutal and not in a good way.

Mini Candy Cane Review: Can't believe it's been five years since I rolled my eyes at the trailer and premise. Even more unbelievable is how much I enjoy this. It's a cozy Christmas sweater of a movie, with the perfect sloppy lead performance from Clarke.

It’s only 2 weeks away so had to watch this one yesterday to get in the spirit.

Mini Candy Cane Review: This movie knows who it's for and I'm sure those people are happy. And honestly, better then 95% of those Hallmark/Lifetime Christmas flicks. Oh, and credit for the decent Mean Girls joke, that reminds me Lohan is melting at a rate Frosty can't even match.

Mini Candy Cane Review: I could go on and on about the issues with the execution of their crappy Arthur Christmas rip off. How it seems to give a thumbs up to automation, or how it feels like a string of individual ideas brought together without rhyme or reason, or how bad the casting is, or the ugly look of the film, or even how the very plot of the film ignores it's own setup. But I watched this for one reason. And though she wasn't in it enough, when she was, I got my fix.
