The All New and Improved Batman Reboot Casting Thread

IMO, the inclusion of the reporter Elliot and “hush” in the Riddler’s video against the Wayne’s established him as this universe’s Riddler AND Hush. Loved Riddler’s look in the film, but might as well have wrapped his head in bandages.

Tommy Elliott (and a mysterious masked villain) would seem repetitive after The Batman. Unless Reeves has a twist on the character that would turn it on its head, I can’t see it.

Is the reboot any good? Love the OG
It's excellent in my opinion. There are a lot of updates, but it feels very true to the characters and themes of the books.

Yup, they already mined Hush for its best ideas in The Batman. It would be a complete rehash to use the character again. After all, the character and the story is a mixed bag at best anyways.

Arnold was actually pretty brilliant casting for Freeze. With a different script, he could have given a more well received performance. I think casting an actor like Schwarzenegger, who can convincingly play heroes or villains should be the goal. Freeze has a degree of heroism to him. The older I get, and the deeper I fall in love with my significant other, the less extreme Freeze’s mindset becomes. Love makes people do crazy things.

Ive grown a bit tired of the Mikkelsen and Esposito fancasts.

Michael Fassbender honestly checks all my boxes for Freeze. He has played heroes and villains. His natural accent would work well here as Schwarzenegger and Preminger were both Austrian. The two countries border each other and share a national language. But the only thing is how overly suggested Fassbender has been in fancasts. He’s also so solidified as Magneto (another tragic villain). It wouldn’t feel very fresh.

If they could snag Viggo Mortensen for this, he would be amazing. I love the Craig suggestion too.

I’m settled on Daniel Craig for that one.
I find Craig to be a bit of a boring choice for Freeze for whatever reason. It's like Cranston as Lex or Dafoe as Joker.

After Batman & Robin I think they have to chase after a very serious and respected actor like Viggo to eliminate GA speculation of Mr Freeze

Hugo Strange - Rhys Ifans

As either Zsasz or even Scarecrow , Evan Peters.

After seeing Dalmer on Netflix, the guy has convinced me he can be very scary, unsettling, and creepy.

Quicksilver and Ralph ***** may come to mind at first, but after you see him in Dalmer, it won't be hard to envision him fitting into the Reeves -verse as a Batman villain.

I'm not sure I want it to be someone who's already been in a comic book movie before. Peters is also just fine to me. Not super spectacular.

nah that would be typecasting

Yeah, I'd rather not have any one who's been in a comic book movie before... like Zoe Kravitz or ... Colin Farrell ... or Andy Serkis ... or Peter Sarsgaard ... or Barry Keoghan ...

I kid, Andy! I kid!

I think it would more in the type casting area if he played Scarecrow or Zsasz the same way he played Dalmer, which he presumably wouldn't if Reeve cast him for part as a villain.

Peter's would good imo.

It wasn't that long ago fanboys claimed Pattinson wouldn't fit as Batman as well .

You bring up a good point, though. At this point, it’s hard work finding someone who hasn’t done one of these films before. Just makes me glad our lead is someone who hasn’t suited up before.

The idea of " an actor can should only be in one CBM" was doable back when there weren't many of these things being produced, when Big name actors didn't always want to be associated with them, and when they weren't all seen as massive, potential, money makers .

If this were the 80s and 90s, it would be a easier to find a bigger named actor who wasn't in another property CB or even Sci Fi/ Fantasy part, but those days are gone for the most part.

At this point, If Marvel and Disney can get a big name actor or popular actor who's done DC films, they will, and vise versa.

Affleck was Daredevil , Now he's the Snyder-verse Batman
Christian Bale was Batman, now he's Gorr the God Butcher
Chris Evans was Human torch, then he was Captain America
Michael B Jordon was Human torch, then he was Kilmonger

Reeves certainly has shown he's not against casting actors who played other CBM roles, so that's a non issue as far as he's concerned.

Pattinson's more multi-faceted as an actor than Peters is IMHO. The issue with Peters isn't that he doesn't fit, he's just kinda bland.

Well , alot of people say that now, but alot of fans weren't saying that a couple of years ago.

He was the " sparkly vampire" despite all the other work he did , and alot of fans certainly weren't calling him multifaceted.
They said all he could be was a teen Vampire.

That's why I tend to not write actors off just because they're well known for playing one type of role.

As for Evan Peters, I've now seen him play two drastically different parts in Quicksilver and Dalmer, and I wouldn't call those parts bland at all , especially if you've seen the latter.

But hey, if you don't want Peter's in a villain role, you don't want him.

I personally wouldn't dismiss that he could do a good job playing a Batman villian.

One of my favourite actors is Matthew McConaughey but I often find he signs up for projects that I’m not interested in watching.

I would love for Matt Reeves to cast him in a sequel or spin-off. What character could you see him playing in this universe?
