World The Amazing Adventures Of Spider-Man

Best Ride I've ever ridden not only as a spidey fan but a theme park fan.

YES!!! Thanks!

Yep, sure thing!

There is a rumor from Screamscape that this ride, along with the rest of the park-will be getting a refurbishment from 2011-2014.

2011 to 2014 - Island Refurbishment - Rumor - Once the Wizarding World of Harry Potter opens next year, Universal’s next step for Islands of Adventure may be to begin a series of “refresh and refurbishment” projects to the rest of the Islands over the next couple of years. With the success of the light up panels on the Rockit coaster, there is now a plan in place to go back and add green lighting to the Hulk trains as was promised way back when the park was first announced. If the rumors about audio being added to Dragon’s Challenge are true, I would count on seeing it added to Hulk as well. There is also a rumored plan to “upgrade” Spiderman, by adding a new scene or two by replacing a couple of scenes that don’t work as well as the rest. Seuss may just get repainted, possibly some new scenic elements, and there has been talk about adding a new attraction to the Jurassic Park area for years. What about the remains of Lost Continent? I think we could see something happen here as well, though would it be an expansion of Potter’s Wizarding World or something brand new?

That is very interesting, I hope it's true because the heat effects in one part of the ride weren't working our last time there, and the TV's in the first room of the queue stopped working completely our last day there.

I'm not sure if anyone on here has an idea what this picture is for, but it's by Dave Devries and strangely features all of the villains in this ride. Did he make this as a promo for it or something?

I love this ride! All the effects are just awesome. EVERYONE needs to go on it.

I posted 2 videos of the ride's queue on YouTube. It's mostly the newscasts on the TV's in each of the rooms since there isn't too much of them online, not that great quality but still.

what's funny is I just happened to be searching for vids of the cartoon that shows on the TVs, found your vids, then decided to google the ride cause i wanted more info about the cartoon segments, and ended up finding this thread which I totally forgot that I even started lol. and after almost 5 or 6 years, I went on the ride again recently last year in December during my winter break. It was better than what I remember somehow.

what I realized made it even more special was that it was almost like an anniversary for me of sorts. first time I went on that ride was about a decade ago when I was 10. I had always liked Spider-Man but didn't really become a fan of him until I went on that ride. I LOVE that ride. and my hope is that someday there will be a Spider-Man animated series that has the exact same art style and animation as what is shown on the TV screens in the que. That would be awesome. or if Universal would at least post online the the cartoon shown at the ride so fans can watch it in high quality...heck i'd pay for a dvd of that footage if it were for a decent price.

btw..does anybody know if it's possible to buy the Spider-Man costume that's used at Universal Studios?

So the ride is indeed getting a refurb, as I mentioned a while back.

With a new feature film on the way next summer, Spider-Man is gearing up to be in the spotlight in 2012. Today, Universal Orlando Resort has revealed their own plans for the wall-crawler beginning sometime next year.

A popular mainstay of the resort's Islands of Adventure, "The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man" will be getting a facelift, centering around a new high-definition digital animation. The attraction, which combines motion-based ride vehicles, 3-D digital film and live special effects, will make use of the new Infitex system to make the experience as state of the art as possible.

Details from the official press release include the following facts about the enhanced ride experience:

• All-new digital animation done in 4K high definition – the highest HD resolution available
• The new HD animation will allow guests to experience details they’ve never been able to before – from the flames spewing from Hobgoblin’s pumpkins to the electricity arching through Electro’s body to the stitching on Spider-Man’s gloves.
• To take advantage of new HD clarity and detail, Universal Orlando is adding entirely new details to the film – and leaving it up to guests to find them.

“Guests will not believe their eyes when they experience the new Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man,” said Thierry Coup, senior vice president of the Universal Creative Studio. “We are talking about a larger-than-life environment and the HD animation will make it even more remarkable than it has been. It will seem brand-new.”

There is no specific launch date yet available for the updated attraction, but check back with SuperHeroHype for more details as they become available.

Awesome!!! I've always wondered when they would update it, I had the honor of going on that ride back in 2001, back when I was 6. Only regret I had was that I covered my eyes for pretty much half the ride because I was pretty scared, even though I loved spiderman even back then. I would love to go back on it someday.

Haven't seen the attraction yet, sure plan to though.

Here's a comparison pic between the old and the ride's new CGI.

Found a really high res pic of the upgraded ride. I can't wait to go back next year!

Alright!! I've stumbled upon some very rare original storyboards for this ride. I'm guessing that these are from around 1995/1996 because the ride started construction in 1997 I think. It seems there were several different ideas for where the story would go and who would be featured, as it is very different from what the ride's storyline actually ended up.

In spoiler tabs because it is pretty huge-The first set of storyboards, featuring Doc Ock, Venom, Lizard, Electro, Vulture, and the Green Goblin. Seems the original story more or less was just a tour around all of NY fighting villains. It was originally several separate images, I cut it into one so it was the entire thing.

Here is another set of storyboards, this time featuring Electro, Hobgoblin, Lizard, Mysterio and Doc Ock. I notice how characters like Lizard, Doc Ock, Vulture and Mysterio have their SMTAS designs in these storyboards. Ock has that design in the actual ride.

One more, just a scene with Spidey fighting the Green Goblin in the sky.

Earlier this month Universal updated all of the Marvel character's costumes after having the same ones since 1999.

Spidey and the Green Goblin have new suits, naturally. I'm not sure if Spidey's is better than the original, but Goblin's is a definite improvement.

Also, I've heard that the projectors in the Spider-Man ride have already been replaced. I'm not sure if these are permanant for the 2012 upgrade, though.

Those guys in the suits are terrific with kids, especially the Cyclops guy. I envy that. I'm never quite sure what's gonna insult them or go over their head.

As for the costumes. I think the new ones are excellent! Spider-Man's is only better now because of the color of the blue. Other than that they're even.

Spidey's costume is the only one that should never have been changed. the one they use to use was PERFECT especially sicne it was based off of John Romita Sr.'s art style, my fav artist EVER. but this new costume ugh! it reminds me of that stupid extremely cgi looking photoshoped Spider-Man you see on merchandise EVERYWHERE now:

Here is a perfect example of the "John Romita Sr." classic costume they had:

Spiderman%20Mom%20&%20Dennis.jpg

I noticed however sometimes the costumes would have different masks that looked lame compared to this one. google "universal studios spider-man" and you'll see what i mean

can someone tell me how i can contact someone at universal who is in charge of their costumes cause if they aren't gonna use the classic John Romita Sr. one anymore i'll take it off thier hands. I've been wanting that costume since the day i saw it (I was like 9 or 10 at the time..i'm 20 now)

I found them on a Florida theme park forum called Orlando United. The guy that had them didn't remember where he found them in the first place.

I wish there was some way to find the queue cartoon as well, man. I found out that the entire thing is 30 minutes long and was created by Galaxy Digimation. I don't know where to go from there, but it's a start.

I went on this ride on December. I liked it although I liked The Simpsons ride a bit more. I especially liked the video they showed before we went on. Jonah was hilarious. My favorite part was when Spidey broke into his office and said,"Smile, gorgeous."
