Ultimate spider-man came directly after spider-man 2 and while it was novel, and had a great look, the web swinging was majorly downgraded, which confused me, but I totally let it pass, because it wasn't a movie game, and it was pretty good overall in other areas.
I really don't get why Beenox even bothers to make these movie tie-ins. they should know better. I really don't think that it being a tie-in makes it sell any better... I guess one way would be to just name the game The Amazing Spider-Man but not connect it to the movie series. I'm sure a contract could be made with Sony very easily concerning that
It was a very enjoyable game, but the controls on both Spidey and the camera are kinda twitchy, and enemies fly like ragdolls not to mention that the combat again is not very innovative. the graphics on the ps3 version are certainly better than SM2 obviously, but they are not even close to the console's true capasitySorry, but why do people love to slag off SM3? It had the best free roam New York in any game ever and honestly the only crucial web slinging change which decreased the fun was that the webs were too short and didn't have much of an arc to them.
You were tiny in this city, and the scale was so much more realistic. The story in the PS2 game was better than the PS3 one though I thought.
SM3 was an improvement on everything is SM2 except the web slinging.
I don't think it's up to Beenox. They just do what they are being told to do.
I don't think they have absolutely no say in the matter. It's not like Sony is their "boss", Activision is
Guys, any complaints/criticism/ideas for the next game that you have, why dont you send them to beenox on Facebook? I'm sure if enough of us do it then they're bound to listen.
I don't want a game that 1:1 copies the SM2 web swinging. It's not realistic. I want a game that tries to top them all by adding proper physics based swinging. The webline has to be elastic with its own physical properties. Stop telling devs they should add the SM2 swinging, tell them you want realistic swinging instead with elastic weblines that don't clip through everything.
If devs can't even copy existing web-slinging mechanics, I very much doubt they'll be able to create realistic ones.
Well I don't really see how anything from the SM2 swinging system should be used. Sure it was fast etc but nothing revolutionary. I'd rather have them combine the TASM2 swinging controls (both triggers for swinging) with a new swinging system. I'd love to hold both triggers for dual web swinging (and be able to shoot another webline while already swinging with the opposite trigger). I don't see how having a dedicated boost button adds to realism. The speed should come automatically with a proper web-swinging system when you automatically build up momentum.
The ONLY way they'll most likely be able to do a swinging system justice is with manual aiming of weblines. Imagine a web rush style slowdown first person camera where you can aim at a point, press R2/RT, shoot the webline there, turn to the left, shoot a webline there with L2/LT and then enjoy the swinging. But then there's the question, who wants to do that? It breaks the gameplay flow, is hard and tedious and most likely annoys everyone playing the game.
I doubt we'll ever get proper web swinging that is smart enough to emulate real swinging (because you don't just shoot a webline above your head, you are smart about your surroundings and e.g. aim directly infront of you near a wall so you can use the falling momentum to boost your swing -> TASM1 movie skydive as Peter, he aims to his right instead of his right ABOVE him to get an insane swingboost).
Wait for fully immersed virtual reality booths that put you in the game, that's when they'll be able to do Spidey 100% justice... :-/
Wait... Are you talking about the PS2 version?
'Cause the "next gen" version definitely had two handed swinging, and had way better graphics than SM2.
No I am talking about the 360 version. They didn't have the double swing. NO spider-man game has had the double since SM2. Why i keep mentioning it. you could not launch two web lines at once. They did have some kind of fruity upgrade animation that made you think you were launching two lines though, I remember that lol. But it wasn't pure like in SM2.
The graphics were technically "way better" sure, but they looked "way uglier" to me lol! Look at those faces and fingers and get back to me lol. At least theres some charm in the PS2 game for being a bit blocky and plain, but the next gen SM3 was sum thin else lol.
I DID enjoy it immensely though, but the story and gameplay was bad for me. It was glitchy and like i said, the visuals didn't do anything for me, and I thought spider-man looked WAY too cartoony. I wanted realism in the newer gen, and I was disappointed. The city was cool! Ive wanted to pick it up again but its been rather expensive for a 2007 game.
...
SM2 was nothing revolutionary? it revolutionized everything for Spider-Man games lol! I don't understand how you can't see that, even if you didn't like the game. It set a certain bar, sure the bar has aged, but its unfortunately never been topped as far as swinging.
...
I was talking about the web swinging not being revolutionary. Of course SM2 was revolutionary for its time with being the first open world hero game. But the swinging was very basic if you look back at it. It was fun but I even prefer the one found in TASM2 to it because it lacked swinging animations and didn't obey the laws of physics that much (you could float in certain points while swinging which instantly destroyed all immersion for me).
Sure it was revolutionary for its time but games like SM3 or WoS topped it IMO (although SM3 sacrificed speed for realism). The double webline feature they had was also incredibly hacky so I never bothered using it.
And was for SM3 being expensive, that probably has to do with the fact that it's not being produced anymore. Same goes to Shattered Dimensions etc., prices rise due to license being gone ending all support for them.
What the heck? How in the world could this game be so short? It's a complete rubbish, if you ask me. Only 15 main missions and I have already accomplished 12... but I have been playing it for a couple of hours. As far as I remember, SM3's storyline consisted of 42 main missions and that was quite a lot for this kind of game.
It was a very enjoyable game, but the controls on both Spidey and the camera are kinda twitchy, and enemies fly like ragdolls not to mention that the combat again is not very innovative. the graphics on the ps3 version are certainly better than SM2 obviously, but they are not even close to the console's true capasity
But that game came 10 years ago.I would argue the same with SM2, in fact looking back the game looks horrid. Everything lacks detail and the world is empty.
