Another reason I would like to see a Netflix or Sci-if miniseries of Spider-man is IF they do the origin again, they could do it there. They could do his origin, have him go against the Chameleon, Tinkerer, Mystero etc and then jump into a movie fresh.

what appealed to Drew Goddard was probably doing something different with it, no one said Drew Goddard was ever gonna be a faithful to the comic director anyway

Quick question here for you guys... This is assuming they reboot and do the origin story, again.

Am I the only one that wants to see him absolutely terrible as Spider-Man for the first 5-10 minutes? Not catching every street thug, not swinging perfectly and majestically through the streets of New York, running out of web fluid mid battle/swing sequence?

With TASM they had him swinging on chains and whatnot, but I still didn't get the feel that he had actually trained himself to do any of these things. Sure his powers give him acrobatic abilities, but he still needs to perfect them to be the Spidey we saw in TASM 2.

I'd just like to see a bit of clumsiness when in the suit at first. Marvel would have a fun time using it as comic relief and it would make Peter very grounded. Make us feel what it would be like if you just got those powers and started swinging through the streets fighting crime. Errors, errors and more errors.

If the origin thing comes up again, then yes, I agree with you about Pete learning to use his powers. Marvel has been doing stuff like that since Iron Man. But it seems that we may be skipping over that time and have Spidey operating for a few months before his first appearance in a MCU movie.

This would be the ideal thing, to get a Netflix series. Best way to tell the mythos and develop all the characters. Basically a live action Spectacular Spider-Man. However, I think that could only happen if Sony totally sells the rights over to Marvel, which I don't think they will do.

I like the idea, but like Spider-Gnome said, it would appear that Marvel is going to have the first appearance of Spidey be after his origin and he'll be established as an upcoming hero. Which is fine by me. No need to cover the origin again since we've had it twice now in about 12 years. Just show it in some well-placed flashbacks a la TSSM or Burton's Batman.

In said flashback scenes it would be nice to see though. I wanna see Spidey get his butt kicked the first few times. His powers in SM and TASM make street thugs irrelevant. He battles all of them with ease right off the bat, I wanna see a struggle.

I guess that depends on how they approach his powers. Is he full-on everything right from the get-go kinda like how Raimi's Spider-Man was or is he having a little bit of trouble in the beginning kinda like how Webb's Spidey was, i.e. remember the scene facing off with the thugs in that alley. He beat them but he was rather slow and uncoordinated. I think Webb was going for the idea that his powers grew over time. I mean, he did come home with bruises after a night of hunting down thugs. So, we did get a taste of what you're talking about already.

And then there's the usual comic relief stuff, i.e. smashing an alarm clock, breaking door handles, faucets, throwing a tray of food across the cafeteria, webbing coming out without warning, etc.

They could do more stuff with it, I suppose and I do like the idea but if they're telling the origin in flashbacks I'd just assume they would skip all that 'comic relief' and just go with the important aspects of how/why Peter becomes Spider-Man. If anything, I'd want the 'comic relief' in a movie featuring Spidey to actually be Spider-Man. He's funny enough on his own, quick witted, snarky. We should be laughing at how he taunts criminals/villains with his solid quips. Just my opinion.

Then that would be a no.

Alrighty. But...the greater point to be taken, is that anyone working with Sony these days would have to surrender their 'sophisticated story' or 'creative control' for garbage. Reading thru those emails confirms Sony's producers/execs have no clue how to make a quality film featuring the ol' Webhead.

Quips were lacking in all 5 movies if you ask me. They're all terrible. I wish Spidey would narrate the battles as he was swinging around like he does in SSM. I know it works better on an animated TV show, but that's when all the major quipping happens.

And they were considering him to do the solo films? Oh boy...

I feel like its not news that producers have their heads up their ass about creativity.

Totally agree.

And the part I hilighted, seems to be a common theme...

Think whoever handles Spidey next will get the point?

Since SM3 and TASM 2, people are going to be very sensitive to the idea of more than one villain. The constant with those two movies is that they all showed up shoehorned in the finale together. I'd be all for having 3 villains in the next Spidey reboot, if they do it properly.

Have the main villain, then have two side villains. One that he fights towards the beginning as he's developing his powers. (Shocker for example) He doesn't even need an origin, just have him robbing a bank with his suit on. No explination, he's just there being Shocker because he's Shocker. Just DON'T include him in the finale! Once he's defeated, he's done, off to Ravencroft. Then you have your main baddie throughout the movie and one more baddie at the end. (Rhino TASM 2 style)

The problem TASM 2 and SM3 made was linking the villains. Sandman Venom teamup, Dane DeForhead and Electro team up. The side villains in the new reboot should be completely on their own for the own motives. Shocker at the beginning, maybe a hint or easter egg of the Vulture or Doc Ock at the end.

What I'm saying is having more than one villain WILL work for a reboot. Just don't connect the villains with shoehorned plot lines. That's what ruined SM3 and TASM 2.

And they were considering him to do the solo films? Oh boy...

Maybe he will collaborate with Joss Whedon like he did with Cabin in the Woods.

Seriously, I hope Goddard was just joking around, maybe a riff of all the bad ideas floating around Sony? Please?

I think you're correct. But I don't think it can't work in live-action films, and my point is I'd rather see Spidey and his wit be the humor or comic relief rather than some sight gags about him not being in control of his powers. We've already had that over a couple of movies. A good writer can get the quips going to where they fit naturally within the film and make us laugh.

I feel like its not news that producers have their heads up their ass about creativity.

No one said any different. The emails only provided the proof over and above what we 'knew' about the movies.

Totally agree.

I certainly hope so. You'd think it wouldn't be that difficult to adapt Spidey's quick wit and humor to the big screen.

**** you, magic tricks!

Well, I do agree but there's a way to have more than one villain and make it al work. They should start with one already established villain for Spidey and then begin to introduce some of the 'bigger' villains or A-listers prior to them becoming an actual villain. I'd like to see them slowly build up the world around Peter and Spider-Man and get away from having the pre-villain introduced, turn into a villain, hate Spidey, battle Spidey, get defeated by Spidey, all in one movie.

Maybe he will collaborate with Joss Whedon like he did with Cabin in the Woods.

A Goddard/Whedon directed/prodcued Spider-Man movie??

Uh, yes, please.

*just not at Sony*
