I don't think movie studios should think "we can't adapt that look on the big screen" any more.
We're about to see Vision in Age of Ultron in his actual comic accurate colors.
And people are ok with it, in fact, they're super happy to see the character look like the actual comic book character.
So there's no excuse. People thought The Vision was the least adaptable character (costume wise) to put on the big screen.
Sony just have terrible or lazy ideas. A lot of the villain designs from TASM franchise have been lackluster.
The Lizard looked ok, he should've started out like this:
and ended up mutating further into this:
Then you can have the nod to his first appearance look and get the more recognized and favored look.
Electro looked ok I guess, nothing really special though. They just took one look at the Ultimate comics look and went with it but kept him blue all the time instead of orange/yellow and then turning blue when super charged.
Harry Goblin...don't get me started...worst of the bunch.
Rhino....uh...was Rhino in this movie? All I saw was a cartoon russian guy in a mech suit with a horn on top.
