I'm not directing this specifically at you, but I've never quite understood this notion because it's been expressed by multiple posters on here.

Even if you go back to TASM #41 and his return a couple of issues later (I think #43), it's pretty clear that Rhino is the polar opposite of a street thug that is taken lightly by Spidey.

True. But the "street thug" portrayal is the most popular and well-known one, so it's not too surprising that that was what TASM2 went with.

Thank you

Even anyone familiar with the 90's cartoon, or SSM cartoon would have seen Rhino was more than that. He's no Doc Ock or Goblin, but he's sure no bottom level joke villain either. Joke villains are the likes of the Rocket Racer.

Very well said. I actually think Rhino can be very intimidating but the movie brought him down to the level of Rocket Racer or the Grizzly.

Not really. A lot of people on here in the past have wanted a minor villain that Spidey takes out at the very beginning. Shocker was one suggestion, so was Rhino. That said, I'd like a more substantial version of him in the future.

I think Rhino works fine as a comedic relief, lighthearted threat. Not saying he can't work as a more serious threat, Rage of Rhino from the Gauntlet storyline is a pretty good example of that. But I don't hold it against the film for making rhino more comedic (whether that comedy actually landed with the audience is up to personal opinion)

The movie brought all the villains down to lower levels than they usually are. Rhino can also be a deep villain, too. Ever read 'Flowers for Rhino'?

Oh I'm actually fine with that. My problem isn't that Rhino was a minor villain, I just didn't like that he was a major goofball.

I think he can work as a comedic relief. But as I said in my above post, I don't know why they made Rhino so goofy. :(

I haven't, but that's actually on my list of comics to read.

To me, that lies the problem...after Spider-Man 2, motivation for the villains, have not been taken seriously...and that irks the hell out of me. Has anyone stop to ponder for a moment, you have a career criminal, native to Russian, with ties to the Russian underworld, known as a killer, gets his hand on a mechanical weapon that can level half the city, at his disposal, going up against a proven vigilante, whom has powers and have taken down a giant & deadly humanoid Lizard, and a brother whom has electrical power of a minor god...and you just gonna clown around with this guy, with a gathering crowd cheering like at a game. Unrealistic.

A person with Alexis background, wouldn't waste time conversating, he would be about the business. They are not taking these villains seriously, that is and have been my beef with these films. I wish for once, i could write for them, w/o any interference from Avi or anyone else. It's ridiculous how villain are being portrayed.

Love it

Apart from his Silver Age origin, that's the arc I think of when it comes to Rhino.

Tangled Web is full of great Spidey stories in general.

That is genius

It's not just the one liners that made him a ham. It was the goofy Max Dillon portrayal, the cheesy "He lied to me. He shot at me" theme music he had etc.

People also forget how little Electro is in the movie, too. In his first scene with Spider-Man he is defeated and captured. Tucked away in prison until the finale when Harry comically busts him out. He was basically an action plot device that served no significant purpose to the story's theme, or Spider-Man's growth as a character. What did Peter learn from his encounter with this guy? Nothing.

As for Rhino, Rhino has carried multiple comic book issues on his own without being caught on his first fight with Spider-Man. Same with Electro. That goes for the cartoons too. The brilliant Spectacular Spider-Man cartoon gave each of them an episode to themselves as chief solo villain. Just because TASM 2 reduced them to joke villains who were easily beaten first time around doesn't mean that's how pathetic they really are.

I didn't mind that electro wasn't in the movie much because it worked for the story and he looked great when he was on the screen. I was bontherd a lot more in sm 3 with harry forgetting everything for like half the movie then I did with electro with this movie.

People are still ranting on about how "bad" TASM2 was.
Oh well, just let them keep ranting about it, they'll eventually get bored of it. Stop competing and the stuff you love won't get bashed. Simple.

If only :(

He was such a genius and a lonely guy.....plus he would always be eating sweets XD
...........I'm going to miss him :(

I've got some bad news for you, man. Darth Vader? Totally Luke's father. I can't believe Lucas went in that direction!

:oldrazz:

Fox are negotiating with Disney to make a live action X-Men TV series.
It's like there is movement for everything except Spider-Man.

We don't know. if anything, I think this might encourage Sony to make the deal! :D

Exactly, great post Joker.

Can you please respect that some people just didn't like it? We're just as welcome here as you are. Stop treating us like we're pests because we're criticizing something you liked.
