"Left" in the same way that Burton left. Both studios sent enough signals to the two guys that they did not want them to make another movie, so the directors just gave up. Raimi got further along with the process of developing another movie than Burton did, but ultimately it was the same scenario.

I heard that it was because Raimi wanted Vulture in SM4, but Sony & Arad wanted The Lizard instead. And SM3's poor reception from the critics and fans gave Sony the incentive to try to replace the cast & crew with a new team for a reboot.

I wonder as well. I've seen quite a few people on the Bat forum here who seem to be interested in a proper (dark) version of Mr. Freeze. I think there is also a sense from the fanbase that Nolan is leaving on his own terms instead of being forced out, so there isn't really a reason to hang onto the past and have a closed mind about a future project.

Those Batman fans may think they'll be okay with someone else on the helm for a new Batman trilogy once Nolan left, but history has shown that it is always extremely difficult to follow in the footsteps of a wildly popular series or director for another, much less yielding the same result as before. The inevitable Batman reboot will probably receive tons of scrutiny, and likely to be worse than Nolan's take on the Dark Knight, and these two factors will work against the reboot. Nolan came after Schumacher so it was a much easier act to follow.

Not in terms of people giving it a chance, it wasn't. Most people refused to watch it in the theater because of B&R. For a $200m grosser, it actually has a pretty big "cult" fanbase on home video, many folks who never saw it in the theater but liked it once they gave it a chance on cable TV and home video. Anyway, reboots in general seem to always climb an uphill battle.

To me the 7.5M just means that it will probably have more buisness during the week and this weekend. 7.5M is solid considering this is a reboot with a new cast. Not sure how word of mouth will be but this is barely a bigger hit with the critics than SM3.

I see the major sites are predicting a 75 mil. OW. That is extreme lowballing. I see at least 100 mil. based on the reviews and esp. that kids are out of school. final domestic tally of more than 250 million but less than 500 mil. :D

In terms of reviews, it's about the same as every marvel film sans IM1 and The Avengers.

No clue how much money it'll make this week. I know the latimes and now EW are sticking with 120 mill..BUT I do know that the theater was packed tonight and there was a long line waiting to get in once we got out. This will definitely be a crowd pleaser, it definitely pleased the crowd I saw it with

Yeah I think people are underestimating the Word Of Mouth factor.

Sequel is pretty much assured now!

And hopefully the sequel will be critically extolled as it unlikely that it would be a copy of Spider-Man 2...I still didn't watch TASM yet, I'm hoping to watch it 2day

The movie is getting slept at badly. Many are *****ing that it is a retelling of the origin.

Spider-man is bigger than Iron Man with or wihout Sam Raimi.

With 3D there's no way this falls below 275 m.

160 = opening week

305 = domestic total

550 = overseas total

855 = worldwide total

Aloha,
I like how you think.It's the female factor that is going to blow fan boys predictions out of the water. They got Webb to direct this movie because of that (among other things). This is a action/adventure date movie.Moreso than most.I'll go out on a limb here and predict that when the stats are totaled. The Amazing Spider-Man had a higher female attendance than any other comic book movie.
Spidey rules

It'll probably land a little above 300m. A big drop in attendence from Raimi's films, but a good number for a reboot nobody had much faith in.

Not sure about U.S BO. BUT, I do feel the film will get between 400 and 500 million world wide, which I think will be a good return.

It's a reboot that's getting picked apart mainly for that reason. So Sony should be happy with that return IMO and really put all effort on the sequel.

With a $35 million opening day, Sony will certainly be keeping Spider-Man for the forseeable future.

neat........this movie shd get at least 800 million worldwide.

pretty decent for a reboot.

Hopefully they keep Webb too and let him have a bit more freedom.

Looking at the movie I think he had a lot of freedom. There were things and choices he made that I was shocked by. I want him to come back because he won't be anchored to an origin and can just let loose

Excellent point
When I went to see it,a very large portion of the audience were women
My sister who hates each and every comic book movie loved this movie

It is gonna attract a lot of female audience

Excellent start for Spidey. It has a great chance to perform similarly to the first Transformers film, which also opened on a Tuesday when July 4th was Wednesday. It ended up with $319m domestic. Spidey has a great chance to make $1 billion worldwide because I expect it to make around $750m overseas and over $300m domestic.

Looks like Webb and Whedon are Marvel's new live action golden boys.

Avi said he hopes Webb comes back. I'm sure once this weekend is over he'll be even more hopeful. I really don't think this movie would've been as good as it was without him

Imagine if they worked together! I think it would be disappointing to find out Webb was leaving. Who would take his place?
