What I'm not sure is if the crack needs to be there. It's supposed to be a controversial death so to clear cut it in that way would take away from the whole uncertainty of Peter's guilt which would be an amazing angle to explore cinematically...

If the audience isn't there with him (in the "we don't know what really happened" territory) and actually KNOWS it was his mistake 100%, you lose some instant relation as to what he's going through.

Well, they clearly show her neck snap in the comics. The question is whether she was already dead when Goblin dropped her. But your idea would work well too. I was actually thinking along the same lines also.

I really want to see Spider-Man lash out at Goblin after Gwen's demise! "GOBLIN! YOU KILLED THE WOMAN I LOVE!"

"I'm not coming back for 30%. I'm coming back for EVERYTHING!"

Is Marc Webb going to direct Amazing Spider-Man 2?

Spectacular Spider-Man was definitely for kids, but as you said, others can enjoy it, too.

Although it wasn't so great, I wish they kept "The New Animated Series" on the air. I feel like it they got some better writers, they could have made the perfect Spider-Man series. Great animation + great writing = Fantastic long lasting TV series.

Plus I love Neil Patrick Harris as the voice of Peter Parker/Spider-Man!

Is there any chance of USM getting cancelled and Spectacular Spider-Man coming back??

Lol they listen to Quesada because he's their boss man. And no there's no way of that happening. According to Greg Weisman, and as I pointed out, the legal mumbo jumbo is too much to try to make that happen. Plus I don't know what the ratings are like for ultimate anyway but they're probably good.

And spectacular was for spider man fans not really "for kids" per say. There were some dirty jokes in that show lol

He's got a contract for it but I'm sure that depends on the success of this one
I think they did good by playing the trailer for the Avengers movie. So many kids are going to point at it and say "I want to see that! Spider-Man!"

They've done a great job of marketing period not just to kids. Kids are easy for spider man though. Show them the mask and the swinging and they're good to go

Most kids need to see is Spider-Man swinging. If they see that 4 minute extended preview of Spidey saving the kid on the bridge, given him his mask, I think many kids will definitely want to see this movie.

So what? Thats what I call smart writing. That show was STILL for kids too.

There are quite a few shows that I used to watch as a kid, and watched again once I grew up, and I was completely taken aback by the sly jokes that had gotten under the radar. But as a kid, I hadn't given them a thought at all. The same would work in this case.

Even Dexters Lab had a couple jokes that got under the radar and completely surprised me when I saw a couple episodes of the show again. As a kid, I'd never noticed em.

So like I said, the "its meant for kids" excuse is a complete cop out. Didn't you say before that you write? Then as a fellow writer, I shouldn't need to point this out to you, no offense :/

ASM will probably make 600-700 million worldwide.

I'm also unsure about how they should portray Gwen's death...at the current time i'd like for it to be as much of a surprise for the audience as it is for Peter...you think "oh man, thank god, he pulled a last second save, go spidey", only to find her dead upon pulling her up. The problem for fans is there is no shock cause we already know...won't have the same effect as, let's say, Rachel in TDK.

yeah I think Gwen dying has to be an emotional scene so that it can make the audience cry a little bit..
when Harry died it was emotional and I had tears in my eyes..

would be great though

another thing I would like to see in the sequel would be that if peter cant take anymore of his villian's attacks and out of nowhere in slow motion you see the lizard jumping and coming to peter's rescue and then later through the battle getting killed by one of the villians...and make it emotional...it would make the hardest man shed a tear :p

It depends how Gwen's death is executed.

Some movie deaths are tear jerkers no matter how many times you see them.

Ditto. Boy A is a great example of this. I cry every single freaking time. Not just movie deaths though, some TV Shows have had very stong episodes with a death of a character (Buffy's death and Tara from Buffy the Vampire Slayer etc. ) though granted its probably easier for TV Shows to pull of because the audience has so much time already invested in the character.

Also, if they pull it straight from the comics doesn't necesarily mean that it won't be emotional, same could be said for the Avengers, everyone (especially fans) knew the heroes would come together in the end, but watching it play out live action, the first time they become a 'team' and the camera circles around them was beautiful.

plus I'll add as well, that usually, reading a death is nothing compared to seeing it live action. That all ways on the writing and acting though, but if it's good it's usually heart-wrenching to watch. I'm sure we're all going to be blubbering with tissues when it happens. I also would love it to be the most cinematic death ever in terms of film history.

I think it all up to how Peter is portrayed. In other words, Peter has to understand the gravity(no pon intended) of the danger to Gwen, and the emotional stress in despirately attempt to save her. I think we didn't get that emotional intense moment, when MJ was tossed in Sam's "Spiderman"

If the audience see Peter understanding the gravity of the situation, and emotional despiration to get to her at all cost, and failed; then yes, it could be a very tense scene, because the audience will actually feel what he feel. That's rare in most films. You know what I'm saying? the audience would be just as intrenched in the moment as the character is.

My heart skipped a beat when Parker dropped the burning car with the kid inside. Because the tension had been building leading up to that moment.

I have no doubt Webb will bring his A-game to a Gwen Stacy death.

Exactly! The audience has to be as desperate as Parker is to save her. They should be sat on the edge of their seat, thinking' Oh my god, is he going to be able to save her?' which is going to be incredibly hard for them to do, especially as the scene will probably look very similar to SM1, which could also work in it's favor in a way, so the audience would think 'oh yeah, he'll save her, he always does' catches her with web "haha see, *SNAP* OH **** NO! NO! NO!"

although I want to play out as the former then the latter, the audience should WANT to save Gwen as much as Peter does, so it makes it all the more heart-breaking when he pulls her up.

I see Gwen's death happening like this.

Gwen's falling and Spidey shoots out a webline, we hear a crack but it could be interpreted as the webline tightening (even though it's not). The score is all triumphant as though Spidey has saved her and the audience is misled into thinking this too. Spidey descends to Gwen and he's calling her name out a few times, each time he says her name he goes quieter and the score goes quieter too.

If Spidey's lenses are cracked (which I hope they are at this point in the movie), maybe we could see a few tears coming out of Peter's eyes as he quietly whispers "Gwen...". He falls to his knees and holds her body tightly (at this point, the score could be like what was playing when Harvey Dent's in the hospital after Rachel's death in TDK).
