It's tricky because Spider-man is still a kids movie so you don't want it be morbid.

But I think it can be tastefully done without losing too much impact.

It would be great if ASM2 was so dramatic and well crafted it became oscar worthy.

No one says Spidey can't be a mature film. Look at Batman, it broke all the barriers made about superhero films. Spidey could follow the same lead, as Iron Man tried. Iron Man kills A LOT OF PEOPLE in his movie, gets one man face half-burn, he watches the death of one of his friends (at the cave). In Iron Man 2, he's a drunk man, he scares the **** out of people.

Showing a death of such a major character will make some kids cry, but that won't prevent them to like it.

Yeah, just look at the stuff that they got away with in TDK just because they didn't use blood.

Gwen's death is not THAT extreme.

I see Gwen's death happening like this.

Gwen's falling and Spidey shoots out a webline, we hear a crack but it could be interpreted as the webline tightening (even though it's not). The score is all triumphant as though Spidey has saved her and the audience is misled into thinking this too. Spidey descends to Gwen and he's calling her name out a few times, each time he says her name he goes quieter and the score goes quieter too.

If Spidey's lenses are cracked (which I hope they are at this point in the movie), maybe we could see a few tears coming out of Peter's eyes as he quietly whispers "Gwen...". He falls to his knees and holds her body tightly (at this point, the score could be like what was playing when Harvey Dent's in the hospital after Rachel's death in TDK).

I would actually love it if Gwen is "saved", and Spidey lets out a smarta$$ quip like he always does, just like in TDOGS.

Then of course, the quipping stops and the mood suddenly turns to one of horror.

Also, I'd like to add that usually for scenes like this, I'd prefer the quieter approach like the one you said, BUT, I would make an exception on this one only because of Andrew Garfield. Andrew Garfield is outstanding at intense scenes, and he works very well when he is screaming.

Watch Never Let Me Go. Garfield has a scene there where he lets out a wail filled with intense frustration and anger against the world. And boy was it intense. You can see a bit of that in Social Network, when he screamed out at Zuckerberg/Sean Parker about his shares. Hell, look at the leaked clip where he is screaming/demanding at Connors to stop. Garfield does and extremely good job in conveying emotions in his voice, so I'd definitely have him scream out in horror/anger.

I don't think words can justify how badly I want to see The Death of Gwen Stacy on the silver screen.

Gwen's death is not THAT extreme.

After witnessing the magic trick, I leaned over to my friend and whispered: "Poor children hehehe."

What makes Gwen's death so potentially difficult is that Emma Stone is very likable and to some extent she's America's sweet heart.

I have a feeling if ASM is sucessful that the Sony execs might chicken out of killing off Emma's character.

I could definitely see Sony execs being afraid of letting her go. But I think it will eventually happen.

Agreed with this. I don't think I've ever seen an actor able to convey such emotion through screaming like he does. that was very apparent watching Never Let Me Ago and the filmed set clip of him and Uncle Ben (I can't wait to see that scene!) , and I agree the Social Network lliterally is a TASTE of what he can do.

For Gwen's death, I don't actually want a score playing, I think there should be almost no sound except for the crack. If there is I hope it's really soft, or something like Troy said. I know this is a really odd reference, but If anyone's seen the original swedish version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, the way they film the raping scene, she's screaming against the bed in pain and the screams slowly muffle out to no sound but you still see her screaming and fighting against the bed to get loose, and it feels like time has slowed down (even though the camera is still real time) and you feel all her pain and anger and desperation to get free right in that moment. I'd like something similar to that here, so you hear the Goblins cakkle as he lets go of Gwen, and Peter shouting, then time slows down and all sound is muffled out gradually and it stays this way while he pulls her up. Then all we hear is Peter is sobbing/screaming at the Goblin, and and the sound of the sobbing fades out, and you see him just holding Gwen in his arms.

I'm pretty sure it'll happen. Webb already mentioned The Death of Gwen Stacy's importance multiple times. And as far as the Sony execs go, I wouldn't be too worried. They can see that the death of Rachel in TDK worked really well and they're probably more prone to the idea now because of it. Even if people love Emma Stone much more than Maggie Gyllenhaal.

There's an interview with her talking about it, saying she can't wait to play that scene, and Marc has talked about TDOGS in many interviews, so I think it is what they intend to do, but yeah I get your point, but the Emma Stone being America's sweetheart would work in its favor imo. Alot of people woudn't expect it.

Heck, they are probably going to kill off her father. Why not go all the way and complete the death of the Stacy's?

I tried to bring this up before, but nobody responded. For the first person perspective shot, where do you think that fits into the movie? Does anyone think its the final swing?

I am pretty sure it the final swing.
Somewhat different for Riami's endings but still Iconic

I wonder if it isn't in the movie at all and was made just for the trailers?

I imagine Gwen's death sequence to be in slow-mo, the camera following the web through the air, without almost sound (as the spidey-sense of the Raimi's films), reaching Gwen's leg, and when the fall stops (we only hear the "crack" of the neck), a very soft Gwen's "mpfhh" (I don't know how to write that in words lol), while the camera continues and some drops of blood from Gwen's mouth fall into the lens.

I would cry if I see that.

Neck snap wont cause bleeding

There has been several POV shots in the trailers, I don't think they will drop them. Also, the first one (the daylight one), has been upgraded visually since the first trailer. I don't think they would touch that scene anymore if it was just only for the teaser.

EDIT:

Of course it does, what if the larynx gets broken by a chipped vertebra?

I hope the teaser trailer POV isn't a final swing thing, I don't want the last thing I see of the movie being the first thing I saw.

The Head of the 2nd vertebra breaks and crushes the pons which harbors the Respiratory centre,it leads to sudden arrest of respiration which leads to death, this is how prosecutional hanging works.

Dont think it affects the larynx,Either way, they dont need to show any bleeding,it would be an unneeded move which would needlessly make it A rated

Yeah, but Spidey doesn't hangs her, he almost rips her apart. I think there's more than one vertebra broken, probably the whole 1st set of vertebras minimum.

Even if there are more vertebrae broken, the bleeding would be internal

Internal bleedings usually come out through the mouth, nose or ears. I'm not talking about a ****load of blood spitting, I'm talking about a few drops :D

Dont think a broken vertebrae/spinal cord would cause external bleeding. It cant come out of the nose or ear unless its skull injury or out of the Mouth unless it involves the GIT
Just Quadriparesis/Hemiparesis(Read:Cristopher Reeve) or Death if its the 2nd vertebrae

Anyway the point is,blood would ruin the surprise and audience would know she is dead, they should be in the dark just like Peter till he pulls her up and she doesnt respond
