It's basically how a lot of horror/action films that get pretty serious usually have that integration of humor, in a sense how the Buffy series was. That **** got insanely graphic and dark, yet the humor was still there.

Exactly. A great example of achieving that balanced.

Please for the love of God shut up.

I'm so sick of you every turn I am at. You just don't see the abstract idea of it being "serious" do you?

Just get lost. That's all I ask.

Who said Spider-Man HAS to be serious. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that this movie will be more serious in some aspects and be humorous in others, but Spider-Man was never intended to be like that. It CAN work for him, but it ISN'T him. Just because you prefer that version doesn't mean everyone should naturally prefer it too.

I doubt TMNT was ever intended to be serious either, but it worked.

Agreed but that works when its light hearted too.

Spidey and TMNT work when they are light hearted and when they are serious.

The key is to achieve a balance.

I might be wrong but wasn't TMNT originally created to be serious? Of course it was a satire of the violent comics of the 80s but it was supposed to be dark and gritty from my understanding. In fact, the creators hated the 80s cartoon series because it was too silly in their eyes and other issues they had with it.

And yeah balance works. I've always said that Spidey's world can be as dark and real as a creator wants it to be but he needs to maintain his sense of humor and idealism. You need to create a city where a hero like Spidey is needed and in order to do that, it has to be a little dark because that's how the world is and Marvel has always prided themselves on being "the real world"

I remember reading a few of the TMNT comics and they were anything but funny or humorous. They were dark, bloody, and full of violence.

Agreed and yes TMNT was created as a very serious comic but TMNT wouldn't be as beloved as much as it is today if it wern't for the 80s cartoon which is almost a polar opposite to the comic and is very light hearted and comedic in comparison.

It works both ways and it works especially with a blend. The 2003-2009 series tells us that.

We've seen pictures with Connors only having one arm and the comic con footage had him regrowing his arm at one point.

Thanks socool. I thought I'd remembered seeing him with one arm somewhere, but that synopsis of his character (now certified stupid) completely threw me off and I didn't feel like digging around for one arm proof when we have some wonderful people like you here to help out :woot:

Next questions...since with this spider-man movie, i don't feel like becoming too much of the rabble around here because the same things can get touched on so many times and with unnecessary bickering (*cough* NinjaCarm *cough*...the hell is a "Carm" btw?):

The shoes we've all seen Spidey wearing appear to have a purpose. But I can't figure out how he could stick to walls through them...has this been explained yet? They're going for a more realistic and explanatory approach with this movie, compared to the Raimi trilogy, so I'm hoping there's a reason other than "they just look cool." Because personally I don't care for them and it appears to take away from Spidey's "stick-um powers" (Shattered Dimensions reference...ftw?)

I don't know that it has been explained yet. Suspend disbelief?? It's true they are going for "a more realistic and explanatory approach" but does that mean everything needs to be explained? Not sure. I mean, I don't think they will go into the very depths of discussion about how a spider, even with some type of radiation or engineering can possibly alter the DNA of a nearly full grown man.

Spider-man can still climb walls while wearing sneakers. He can climb better with thin soles or barefooted yes, but he really needs only his hands.

The Raimi films even showed Peter climbing with sneakers on numerous times.

There are certain things that are more glaring than others that, IMO, deserve explanation. I'm pretty sure everyone would agree with me here the the shoes are more "...why?" than wondering about the realistic science of creating an actual spider-man. It's kind of like if peter parker walked around wearing a jeweled crown all the time...he's still Spider-Man, but what's with the damn crown?

So there's suspension of disbelief...and then there's just dumb leaps in logic. It's not like if there isn't an explanation to this then this movie is completely stupid and blah blah blah...it's just something I noticed.

Yup I'm with you on that one. I know the creators hated it but without it they wouldn't be able to still do turtle comics and clothes and tv shows and movies today. I loved the 2003 series because it created a perfect blend of the comic and a smart sense of humor not the goofy sense of humor

If he was wearing a crown then, Yes, I would certainly wonder 'why?' Mostly everyone wears shoes, even Spider-man. I guess he'd look silly running around in tights and being barefoot. That would spark more of a 'why' if he had no shoes on at all.

He probably has enough strength to grip the surface with only his hands.

The reason I bring it up is in the comics, when peter is running around outside of costume, he ties his shoes together and swings them around his neck so that he can stick to stuff with his feet. I have several comics where he does this...but stupid google images doesn't appear to have any :cmad:

In any case, it's true that when you have super strength you could get away with climbing with just your fingers, but if he ever needs to just stand on his feet and free his hands...then it becomes a problem.

And I already addressed the Raimi films as suspending more disbelieve for the sake of just a fun movie than how it would appear they are doing things with The Amazing Spider-Man.

Well in the comics Spidey can gripe through fabric...not shoes. So barefoot is not necessary.

It's one of the reasons I am liking the idea of TAS more than the Raimi universe. But it's still a movie about a very fictional idea and therefore there will be certain things that aren't explained. It would be nice to know exactly how he can do the "stick-um" stuff whilst wearing shoes however like you say, it's not a decapitation move to the head of the movie if there's none.
