Like some have said the remark of the doorman works a lot better if we have him swing by to the building opposite beforehand and see that there's a doorman at the entrance. He could then give a quick glimpse towards his backpack knowing he has his suit in there and then have it cut the aforementioned scene in the #2 trailer.

It works a lot better instead of putting those broken & shoddily handled 46 seconds into the movie.

While the clip wasn't hilarious, it still made me chuckle and it reminded me of the Bruce Campbell scene in SM2. Which I always thought was funny in the awkward kind of way the clip was. Garfield was good too, it showed the more lighthearted and nerdy side of Peter which they didn't really show in the trailer. No complaints from me. So far so good.

Whether anyone liked the clip or not, you have to admit that Andrew Garfield really pulls off the awkwardness of Peter Parker really well, without coming across as a complete dork. It feels natural. I'm sure some of us have had those kinds of moments where someone's asking us questions, and we get all flustered and mess up our sentences. I've had quite a few of those myself. :woot:

Nothing against Tobey Maguire, but there were quite a few moments in the Raimi trilogy where his dorkiness made me want to cover my face in embarrassment (i.e.-- his little "march" at the celebration in Spider-Man 3).

Oh God. Spider-Man 3. I can't believe he was still a dork in the third friggin' movie. And then he went emo....

I did think the "Gonna cry?" bit with Harry was effective, though, best part of the Emo section of the movie that didn't involve dancing.

That's pretty much what his Spider-Man in that movie should have been.

What's the point of releasing a clip like that? I'm not a troll, I'm actually asking cause I really don't know what are they trying to achieve by releasing a couple of seconds of nothing, without any context.
Garfield makes for a very entertaining Parker though, I'm very happy to see a Spider-Man without a weird-looking Maguire.

I think maybe that's why. Just to show a bit more of how Andrew is portraying Peter. The scene wasn't necessarily humorous or great to me, but I felt it was just a simple scene to show it's more naturalistic attempt at dialogue w/o over-doing it.

I think the clip was great in showing how Andrew plays Peter in the movie. The clip didn't look finished to me though, mostly from the lack of sound in the establishing shot.

But it's a very natural interaction. When someone, especially someone Peter's age, is faced with an authority figure (what little authority a doorman actually has), they often find themselves at a loss for words in trying to explain themselves.

The doorman's questioning blindsided Peter, and his reaction felt completely natural. One of the great appeals of Peter Parker is that he's an everyman, and this is a situation most people can relate to. I know I can.

The thing I noticed the most about the clip was the cinematography. It's so damn beautiful. As for peter's exchange with the doorman, it was great. It showed Peter absent of his spider-man cockiness and being on the receiving end of a jerk, without making the scene embarrassing and worse not making Peter come off as a pathetic self-sympathiser.

It's a short scene but very effective and achieves a lot in showing a distinct differentiation between Garfield's approach to conveying spider-man and peter Parker.

A glimpse at Garfields take on Peter Parker.

Agreed. These are instances that are realistic, everyday occurances and Garfield's handling of the scene feels natural and authentic. Some of the issues I had with Raimi and Maguire's take on Peter was that the obstacles and the unfavourable situations Peter faced were overblown to the point Peter just annoyed me for being so unmaturally pathetic.

You guys, the movie is still 5 months away. You really think they're gonna show us a heavy, action-laden scene this early in the game? I'm surprised this came out at all considering how long it took for us to get trailer 2. It's a freaking glimpse; barely a modicum of the whole film. What in the world is everyone getting so dang worked up about? The kid can't have a 30 second conversation without getting torn to pieces?

Welcome to the internet I guess.

He was a hilarious dork, dressed emo, but was a funny dark dork

Feet on the boss desk, feet on the boss desk :venom:

LULUL U COPY ME SO FUNNY

I'd watch both trailers first. As y'know... they show a little bit of all aspects of the movie. And actually, yes. I would be excited to see it after seeing this. It means I have dialogue and acting that isn't over the top and cheesy to look forward to.

Out of curiosity, why are so against pretty much everything in this movie? Bitterness towards the lack of Spider-Man 4? Or you just don't like it?

I can handle the latter, but the former seems really childish.

I totally agree with you!

And, the bolded text is definitely how he rolls...

I didn't love the clip either. I thought Andrew's acting was really good, but the scene itself takes away from the "Your doorman's intimidating" scene, which I thought was an excuse Peter just came up with at the top of his head, which would have been pretty charming. Now, when we know it was true, it makes that scene less special.

That doorman scene is really a scene that feels unnecessary. We don't need to see that kind of stuff. Him just saying "Your doorman's intimidating" to Gwen is just enough.

The scene still made me feel confident with Andrew's acting however, so the clip still gave me something.

However yes, I can totally get chaseter not liking this clip. I can also (though I don't agree with it) understand his strong dislike for the suit. But his over the top complaining about every single detail in this film makes it pretty clear that it's just blind hate because he wanted Spider-Man 4.

I didn't mind the clip. It's not necessarily going for laugh out loud humour, but what would be a straightforward entry into a building escalates into something, and we see an awkward/nervous Peter which was quite endearing.

I'd love to just see a complete sequence with Spider-Man. Similar to the prologues in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. It doesn't even have to be that long. Like maybe show how that car robbery scene played out or something.

They said in twitter that this is only the beginning... if they release many clips, would they really start with a clip like that? There is still the NYCC footage reel that will get released eventually, but sony is taking their time with marketing, and I like that.

We got TDKR 2nd trailer early, and that was a lackluster, then we had to wait so long for the 2nd TASM trailer and that was like the best thing ever for many of us. Sony really knows how to make us hyped for a movie

Even though many think they're showing off too much in the trailer, I think we're being "fooled". I honestly think they're holding back... We've seen NOTHING from the high school brawl between spidey and lizard. We've seen nothing from the wrestling arena. Nor have we seen anything from swat lizards. And frankly, we really haven't seen spidey and lizard dug it out yet. It's all very quickly edited in the trailers.

Indeed. But hey do we even know there will be wrestling?

Exactly. There are many good things to come and Sony would be foolish to release any of it so far out from the release date of the movie. The doorman clip just gives us a glimpse at what Peter is like in this movie without spoiling bigger scenes.

I could have done without another "annoying Bruce Campbell" like scene like that.

Oh well.

It was far from anything like Bruce's scenes. Nowhere near as over the top or cheesy.
