The 4 year mark was pre-production. Actual production on the game didn't begin until around 2 years ago.

We will hopefully get a unedited look at gameplay with the upcoming PAX show in early April.

If for whatever reason they don't show any gameplay at PAX, and wait until e3, do you think that would be a bit unusual?

EDIT: I read that article like a mofo, you're right.

And I know they have two separate teams, and according to the article different leads and designers etc. But I think the game director for both this and EoT is the same. Gerard something.

Yeah, it's Gerard Lehainy.

I would hope they don't wait that long. It's not necessarily a decision to be made by Beenox either. Activision gets to make that call and they are a fickle bunch. Considering how much actual gameplay they've shown in the trailers, it makes me think that Beenox is proud of what they've accomplished and are relishing the moment that they are able to show it off to the general public.

We may not see a hands-on gameplay at PAX but there's still a chance we'll get to see the same demo footage that was shown to gaming websites, magazines, and developers before and during GDC. It was a hands-off gameplay footage but from the sound of it, the footage was mostly unedited and showcased lots of cool features. I'd settle for seeing that stuff.

I agree, anything outside of a quick cut trailer would be good to see before e3.

I checked the PAX schedule and I didn't see a panel for TASM. :csad:

UH-OH! Just playing. Maybe they'll show something outside of PAX, a week or so after.

Yeah, they may not have a panel but that doesn't mean they can't release a demo with commentary online during the week or something.

"I think this is what you have to do. Every now and then you have to say, 'Okay, let's put this whole thing aside and re-think the whole approach to Spider-Man," Brown said.

With the Beenox's upcoming movie tie-in game The Amazing Spider-Man, the team did just that, and devised a host of new gameplay systems that give the team new problems to solve and ideas to explore, while still remaining completely faithful to the Spider-Man brand.

"[Mixing things up] can be a big challenge. You might be tempted to just do one Spider-Man game and just iterate on that forever on that license. But with The Amazing Spider-Man, we re-worked all the mechanics, and that was really crucial to keeping things fresh."

It's good to hear that they've finally addressed that they want to keep things fresh

And the fact that they decided to push everything to the side and start from scratch, building from the ground up. Making totally new gameplay mechanics and looking for new problems to solve.

Yea i was afraid we were gonna get SD or EoT, but just with free roam. Glad they're leaving those behind.

Gameplay wise and graphics wise, they are doing something totally different but I have found stuff in the articles and trailers that have certain things from both SD & EoT included in TASM, but those things have been improved.

For instance, the ability to web up an object in the environment and use it as a weapon. This was an ability that was available in both SD & EoT, however from what I've seen in the trailers, the animations have been improved greatly.

The stealth attacks are being used again from what we got with Noir Spidey. In the TASM trailers you can see him using that 'web cocoon' to subdue guys and apparently from reading the articles you can use a move where you web guys to the floor and walls, just like in Noir parts of SD. Actually, there was an upgrade in EoT where you could web enemies to the walls too.

From the Xbox article, there was a mention of how when Spidey is sneaking into Oscorp, he was seen dodging lasers and crawling thru vents. Both of those ideas or gameplay tactics or whatever you'd call them were abundant in EoT. I'm sure they've made improvements to the animations and the mechanics but the idea is still the same.

These are just a couple of things that I can think of, off the top of my head. I'm sure there are and will be more things borrowed from both those games. Beenox may be borrowing a bit here and there but with an all new gameplay mechanic and engine, I'm sure those ideas will come to life even more so.

Sounds pretty good, hopefully all of those features are integrated into the gameplay smoothly. We've been getting tons of good news about the game, the only thing we need at this point is a solid hands on video so that we can see the game in action. Some of these elements we've seen in the trailer yes, but those were pieced together to sell the game, I doubt we'll get a demo on the marketplace or PSN

I highly doubt we'll get a hands-on demo thru PSN or Live for general consumption. At this point, I'd love to see the hands-off demo that many developers and others in the industry got to see before and during GDC. That would be plenty of footage for us to digest. I have no idea when we'll get a hands on look at the game from IGN or whomever but I'm thinking we may have to wait until E3 for that. I sincerely hope not that long but who knows.

There's 3 months to go before the game is released. I'm sure we'll get a hands-on video or a demo between now and then.

If I was connecting my PS3 to the network and a demo was released, I'd download it

A demo?? Probably not. A hands on video, most likely, and it's not really a question of whether or not we'll get a HoV, but rather when. The best guess with the most probability would be E3, but I would like to see something prior to that event.

E3 would be the best way to get a look at it. That way you'd assume we'd get an uncontrolled look with just a random person playing it rather than a developer. Of course thats assuming its on the floor.

Yeah I'd agree with that and it better be on the floor :argh:
