How did you reach that conclusion though? Obviously most would say you were right in the end, but how did the MJ thing actually get you to think that?

It means the movie was bloated with a million sub plots so they were trying to cut weight. MJ is a huge part of the mythos so seeing her go means the movie was in trouble. This was after they filmed all her scenes too. This wasn't a script review process. Given that plus Sony's current track record, it showed that there were going to be issues with the movie.

actually shaielene had a very busy schedule so i guess that she left pretty early

Adding MJ would've caused an unnecessary distraction. Things get cut all the time.

After seeing this movie 3 times, I can't imagine where they could have fit MJ in. Very wise decision to cut her out of it.

MJ is definitely a huge part of the mythos and out of all of the things that they could have done with the character, it sounds like they just gave her an insignificant cameo. Just some scenes to set up for future installments instead of actually contributing anything to the story. Throwing those scenes out was probably for the best.

Quick review:

Summary: When it's good, it's better than any Spidey movie ever. When it's bad, it's as bad as Spider-Man 3.

Score: 7/10 (good parts 9/10, bad parts 5/10)

The Good:
Spidey/ Peter- Spidey of my dreams, heroic, conflicted, witty, noble, romantic
Gwen- best love interest ever for a superhero movie
Aunt May- best Aunt May ever
Action- as good as Spider-Man 1 in terms of action, much better than TASM1's action.

The Bad:
Electro- made me remember Schumacher villains. When I read some reviewers saying that in their reviews, I thought they were exagerating. They were not. The music didnt help. Corny and cheesy and campy as hell, didnt fit the movie.

Harry- story was rushed. Villain should have been Norman as the mastermind (his plan's to cure himself with Spidey blood) with Electro as his henchman like Crossbones was to Alexander Pierce. Villain plot could have been simpler and stronger.

Music- Electro and Max music was cringeworthy.

Parents subplot- boring and felt insignificant and forced.

Spidey movie rating:
Spider-Man 2 8/10
Spider-Man 1 8/10
TASM1 7.5/10
TASM2 7/10
Spider-Man 3 6/10

2014 Superhero movies:
Cap 2- 8.5/10
TASM2- 7/10

Shailene didn't leave, she was fired.

And her career is probably taking a big sigh of relief because of it, to be honest. I know Divergent wasn't received warmly by critics, but the general audience seemed to like it (I know nothing about the series, but I know people around me who really enjoyed the books and the movie). There's been a lot of buzz around her lately.

All of that said, though, I don't know how TASM2 could have possibly fit Mary Jane into the final cut. It was a good decision to cut the character.

Didn't you dislike the movie at first Bullseye? Or am I thinking of someone else?

Hi Brab, no I liked the movie and have seen it twice now. I did enjoy the second viewing more.

Ohhh, I must be thinking of someone else then!

Great to hear you liked the movie!

I loved ASM2 on my first viewing, we SERIOUSLY doubting my own opinion when I saw the negative reaction to the movie so saw the movie again and it only solidified my initial reaction. My 3rd (and final viewing) was on Monday.

i wanted to hate the movie but there is something inside that gives it an automatic 7/10.

i thought it was brilliant to end with Rhino and to have the last shot an action scene.

it would be cliche if the movie ended with a depressed emo Peter. he is still sad but fighting .

you can see in the movie when Webb was directing and when the studio took over. its obvious and you can see that he was the perfect guy for this reboot. but they wont let him do it because they have to change every 2 years their mind. first it was inspired by TDK and now by Avengers.

everything with Electro was IMO wrong .

I can tell you right now that my favorite scene of the entire movie was

when the kid steps in between the cops and Rhino, and then Spider-Man shows up, has an awesome exchange with the kid, and proceeds to jump into battle and banter with Rhino.

I may not have liked Paul Giamatti's performance, but Spider-Man himself and that kid make that scene great. I just wish that Sony had not shoved Rhino down our throats everywhere in the advertising. It takes away from what could have been an awesome surprise ending.

LGND actually said that Andrew Garfield wrote that scene! He's got a future in screenwriting if his acting ever bombs!

loved it, a 9.2/10 from me

my only complaints are the CGI on some parts being a little cheap, the bickering scenes between Peter and Aunt May since they really dragged, Goblin underused, Max Dillon's design being a little over the top, and the parents backstory getting a tad in the way when they could've used that in the first movie and then had more room here for the villains

If I got to improve on the Max Dillon look, I would take off the teeth gap, the glasses and the moustache, have it be simply Jamie Foxx with a comb over. Jamie Foxx's performance would take care of the rest. I mean, if we're are supposed to believe that this guy is unnoticed by other people, maybe he shouldn't be a walking cartoon

I have one last complaint but this is not really with the movie itself but rather with the marketing. this movie had like like what, 5-6 trailers? not even counting the extra bits of footage they gave every now and then. I agree with Leenie, Rhino could've been an awesome surprise reveal had they patiently kept it as a secret

Wowza. If that's true, then let's just make Andrew Garfield write the screenplay for the next movies (at least the parts handling Spidey's character depth)! That final scene just screamed "Spider-Man!" to me.

Agreed!

That along with [BLACKOUT]Spidey coming down in front of the bullies AND fixing his windmill plus walking him home[/BLACKOUT]was my favourite scene too.

It just proves how much Andrew gets the character, and you know he's not faking when he says hes a fan. I hope they give Andrew some creative control over the script for the next one, doubtful, but one can hope!

I agree about Rhino not being in the marketing too, also would have taken away the fear of too many villains. [BLACKOUT]and who's flippin idea was it to put the ENDING SHOT in the trailers?![/BLACKOUT]

so how many times does Gobby use the [BLACKOUT]pumpkin bombs[/BLACKOUT] ?

Sony was using the Rhino to market the movie and that was probably a mistake in the long run, i mean i can kinda see why they would because fans suddenly gain a new excitement for another comic villain being added... its still kinda false advertising
