What's poor about Harry's motivations?

Nothing. But Electro´s motivations are lame and poor. Harry is just a poorly developed character. That´s what happens when you want to introduce two important villains, tell a love story and have tons and tons of action in just one movie. You gotta sacrifice some elements of the story to leave room to others.

There is so much more they could do with this character, but for some weird reason they keep redoing the usual stuff. It´s like they don´t care about the story at all. They just wanna make some fireworks. The plot is secondary and you don´t need to think too much about it. Just use whatever you have already used before. Use a default story. People don´t care. They´ll eat the same everytime and say it´s tasty.

I´m sorry, but i didn´t watch this movie for free. I paid for every spider movie, so i deserved a little better. Or maybe i didn´t. I´m part of the reason why Studios don´t care. I pay to watch cr*p. If i didn´t, maybe they would make an effort to deliver something better.

Gotta admit, I'm quite nervous by all the mixed reviews. I still have a little over a week until I see it.

I think the one thing that calms my fear is that most of the negative reviews mention the villains and "disjointed story" as the weakest aspects of the film. Then I remember this is the 2nd movie in a continuing story arc and suddenly, I'm not too bothered by those aspects....

Great read, thanks for the thoughtful review Naite.

I'm one of those poor saps in the US that you feel sorry for who can't see this movie for another week and a half, but one thing I wonder about in reading some reviews is that many reviewers admit to shedding a tear or crying, but review the movie at a 6 or 7 (you gave it a strong 8).

I get the film isn't perfect and has some weaknesses or shortcomings, but to me, to be invested in the characters of a film enough to cry for them, doesn't the film earn at least an 8? I mean, how many cbm's pack that kind of emotional wallop and have characters audiences care enough about to cry?

I'll have to continue to wait to find out.

The relationships in this film has never been seen better in any other spidey film. I think this one takes that to the next level. And there are moments where it gets very sad.

FINELY got a chance to see this. I have a more detailed review planned soon but lets just say that I loved the hell out of it.

Most of the common complaints I feel are either incredibly exaggerated (the amount of camp) or non-existent (pacing/narrative issues) and that I honest can't fathom a fan of the character not loving this to death. There are some minor gripes, but that is just what they are-minor.

Easily the best Spider-Man movie ever made and probably up there with the best films of the genre. It's a bright, energetic, bold, funny, superhero film with a heart proudly stitched to it's sleeve. It is soooo refreshing to see a comic book film really embrace the "comic".

9/10

What do you mean they keep redoing the usual stuff??

And how is Harry poorly developed? You're just saying things without explaining them.

Just watched this.

I have to admit i enjoyed the movie, even though there are so many problems with it. It´s enjoyable, but very far from great.

The best thing about the movie was Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. Two great actor that pull off two great performances. It´s easy to care about the characters when you have such talented actors portraying them. Even though i think Andrew has aged quite a bit since the last movie and looks now too old to be playing Peter Parker.

The movie is full of romantic scenes. Some of them are good, some of them are boring. Overall, i think there´s too much whining between them, wich after a while becomes a little repetitive.

The plot and story are very weak. It seems Sony isn´t very interested in innovating and delivering something fresh and original. Everything is ultra predictable and gave me the feeling that i had already watched that movie before. Both story and character development are rushed in order to leave time for the tiresome visual spectacle.

The villains are ok, but everything about them is rushed and sometimes they come across as lame frustrated guys with poor motivations.

Even the action is nothing to write home about. It has a couple of good moments and i do like some of the new camera angles they used, but sometimes the CGI became too obvious and the slow motion was badly used.

The amazing Spider-Man 2 is a movie with a good sense of humor. But sometimes i got the feeling they were trying just way too hard to be funny all the time, and often it didn´t work. It seems like nothing in this movie is well balanced.

The only thing i really loved about this was Gwen´s death. It was really well done. Very emotional moment.

This movie feels very different from the previous. It feels more like a studio movie. Less artistic, more commercial. I wonder how much creative control the director had...

Verdict: More of the same with a few good moments sprinkled here and there. I´m not so sure i´m gonna pay to watch The Amazing Spider-Man 3. Tickets are very expensive and i don´t feel like giving money to people who don´t even make an effort to create something special, even though they have the tools to do it.

6/10

I did share some of your criticisms initially but I have to say having seen it again a lot of those disappeared.

@Naite22

What a fantastic review, well done mate that was a great read. I happen to agree with almost all of it after seeing it a second time.

Although we're seeing mixed reviews, I think all can agree that cutting MJ from the film was a good decision.

Well for one, what d you mean they keep redoing the usual stuff??

And how is Harry poorly developed? You're just saying things without explaining them.

The usual stuff: The same type of plot with the same type of villains. Repetition, my friend. For some reason i got the feeling that i had already watched the movie and nothing really surprised me about it. And for some reason this movie isn´t being very well received. I´m certainly not the only one who has big problems with it.

Harry gets injected with that stuff, and the next time you see him he is already "Green Goblin". It´s rushed. Poorly developed. That´s what i mean. He is there to sell toys.

Yep. I don't see where she could have possibly fit into the Movie. I'm glad they kept it Peter and Gwen focused.

Spider-Man 1. Osborn gets exposed to the super serum. Seconds later, he already kills his colleague and again a bit later Green Goblin is fully realized.

And to me that´s not a great movie either. But we do see more about the suit and other stuff, no? I don´t remember very well.

In this movie we literally know nothing about the equipment. And let´s not forget it wasn´t even developed by Harry, so how is he such a Pro using it?

There are no toys of the Green Goblin from this movie. I collect action figures and there hasn't been one announced or previewed.

I think it has more to do that we will see Harry return in the future as GG and that is when we will see more of his development.

Understatement of the year. :woot:

Not every movie is intended to surprise you. I don't know why people always look to be surprised when watching certain films. People are so used to twists and turns everywhere nowthat they can't just watch a movie without being tricked anymore.

I don't see how that equates to poor development. It's not like they can just handle it like they do in the books and flesh it out for so long. People seemed to love when Dafoe became the villain and died all in the same movie. I don't see what wrong with Harry who has clear and realistic motivations. Only thing I can see people complaining about is how quickly defeated he was, and that's more on editing.

Well, not literally nothing. There is info, though brief, on the capabilities of the suit and glider, when Harry goes through the files his father gave him. And the reason he can work it, is because of a neural guidance system, that got attached to his head.

Then why not leave him for the third movie instead of rushing his intro in this one? I mean, you can´t tell me that´s the best possible way that character could have been introduced and developed.

Electro wasn´t great either.

How did Iron Monger use his monster sized suit? The answer is who cares. That's just nitpicking.

You don´t care. In this particular case, i care, and a lot of people care. And if more people cared, we would have better CB movies and better developed characters.

So we have to have in every single film a villain figuring out how to navigate and work their gadgets?

There simply isn't time for that. We can't have a sequence in every movie, where every villain works out their equipment, and gets slammed into the ceiling like Tony Stark.

So we have to have in every single film a villain figuring out how to navigate things?

Not necessarily. But at least some explanation on what is all that stuff about. Some explanation on why can he suddenly operate such advanced equipement, despite having never heard of it before. Having some logic behind some stuff would be nice. Otherwise i get the feeling i´m watching a dumb movie whose only appeal is its visual effects.

If you don´t have time to properly introduce two villains, then don´t introduce two villains. Pretty simple Math, ein?

Like I said, neural guidance system. He pretty much controls his equipment with his mind.
