One other thing I forgot to touch upon in my review would be the accusations of the film being nothing but a set up movie like Iron Man 2 (another thing I don't agree with). This is also false. Not an opinion, flat out false. It only does the teasing future films thing in the last 5 minutes of the movie.

Therein lies my problem with Harry's motives. The suit healed him, then why was he still after Spider-Man's blood? I was very consfused. To me it seemed like Harry was now trying to complete his father's legacy than try to cure himself and get vegeance for Peter betraying him (especially finding out Peter is Spider-Man). He needed Spider-Man's blood to complete the serum that was suppose to heal him and his father. He was still awesome though.

Where did you get that he's still after Spider-Man's blood though? Nothing after he becomes the Goblin hints that he wants Spidey's blood, he just wants to get his own back at Spider-Man for not helping him.

After hearing all these different reviews I have to say I'm not in the least bit interested in watching this movie now. Growing up a Spider-Man fan they still haven't done this character justice after five movies apparently. Maguire stunk and I'm not fond of Garfield's hip contemporary Peter Parker portrayal and the absence of Uncle Ben???

Screw this franchise. How hard is it to give us a Peter Parker from the original comics with a positive outlook on life and is an actual man??? Like not in high school already??

The MTV Spider-Man was great because I thought Doogie Houser did a great job as Peter AND Spider-Man.

Reboot this reboot, please. They're just throwing all these villains at us now to keep us interested and to keep the rights and keep the cash flowing. Whatever.

Best Spider-Man movie ever? Yes, I would have to say so.

First off I would like to do away with the criticisms I simply don't agree with or think are overblown.

1: Too busy/too many plot threads: Mmmm, not for me. As much as I was anticipating this movie I did expect it to feel stuffed to a degree, but I honestly never once said to myself "Wow, that could have been done away with entirely." I felt all three main character stories were served adequately. I was actually surprised at how well executed Harry's story was and bought into his one film arc more than Franco's Harry over three films.

2: Too campy/silly/goofy/OTT/odd tonal shifts: In my opinion, the camp aspect is being HUGELY exaggerated by some people. I'm not saying they can't feel this way, but I was expecting some flight of fancy tone that never came. This is no more OTT or campy than the first two Raimi films. The difference is this film has the strong acting and snappy dialogue to carry the comic book nature that the Raimi films, imho of course, mostly lacked. The complaints of tonal shift don't ring true either. It doesn't bounce from light to dark to light to dark again like some reviews have implied. It gets serious and intense, but never so much that it clashes with the more whimsical nature of the rest of the film. It's funny when it needs to be, and serious when it needs to be.
I've heard people call Dillon/Electro the campiest, most OTT thing in the movie and I don't see how. He's an exaggeration, but a comic book exaggeration. He's a comic book whacko, not a "lets make this grounded for the hell of it" whacko. I thought he was awesome, especially his major power displays during the finale of the film.
And Dr. Kafka? Really people? THAT is what is getting your undies in a knot? He was BARELY in the film! Maybe, and I mean MAYBE 3 minutes total. Yet again, by the way some people have carried on you would think he's some major supporting role. He's just a mad scientist with a stereotypical European accents. That's it. Absolutely nothing more than that.

The one thing I can semi agree on is that the narrative is...loose. Not crammed, loose. But loose does not equal bad. It follows 3 plot points that merge into one by the end, slowly connecting the dots to offer us one hell of an exciting final battle. It's never confusing or rushed but I can see why people would want a less busy plot. If anything, the film is BETTER written than some are giving it credit for.

What truly makes this movie excel is, like many have already stated, is the sheer amount of heart and exuberance in the performances and the directing. You can really tell Webb was having fun here and wanted this film to resonate with audiences. He goes all out with the visuals. This IS the Spidey we've been needing on screen. If nothing else, you have to agree Spidey and his web-slinging and quipping is ripped from the panel. I found myself getting giddy watching him do his thing more than any other previous film in the franchise.
Garfield has cemented himself as THE Spidey for me (not that it was hard considering I mostly despise Maguire. Sorry, but I do) with wit, charm and charisma. You really get the sense Peter cares for people in this film, more so than any other entry so far. He was a true superhero. I adored the scene with the little kid and the bullies.
Stone shares an amazing spark with Garfield and there scene together are a huge highlight. I honestly can't think of a superhero film romance more natural and appealing than the one found in both of these movies. Only the Lois and Superman romance of the Donner films equal it. And this my friends, is the heart of the film. It's a love story and that is bold for a mega budget superhero franchise to do. Ya, I guess technically the Raimi films were love stories too, but for me they don't have one ounce, one iota of the chemistry that Garfield and Stone have. Ahh, I should stop myself there, I don't want this to turn into a Raimi bashing review. But for the record I still greatly enjoy the first film.

Overall, this is one of the most colorful, heartfelt, and enjoyable entries in the superhero genre lately. It wears it's heart on it's sleeve and bolsters wonderful comic booky action and playfulness while delivering characters we truly care about.

Nice write up. I can only say I hope I have the same feelings/thoughts about this movie. I'm gonna go in with an open-mind and see what happens.

After thinking long and hard about ASM2, I now have ASM2 as my favorite Spider-Man movie ever over SM2. SM2 (imho) has a better more balanced story but ASM2 has better characters and far better performances. I liken it to prefering Aliens to Alien (which I do).

I rewatched AMS1 right after ASM2 and was shocked by how much younger Andrew looked in that movie. I mean, it´s only two years between movies but he looks like a 20 yo in AMS1 and a 27/28 yo in AMS2.

You're welcome. I have one week to catch up with all my Superior Spidey comics, I'm at issue #10 right now.

Each to their own but I thought Spidey (in ASM2) was a laugh riot. I was cracking up at pretty much every syllable that was coming out of this mouth. I don't know if I want subtle for Spidey. My favourite rendition of Spidey on the big/small screen is Spectacular Spider-Man and (imho) Garfield in ASM2 gets as close to that is it's possible to get.

In ASM1 the quips just didn't land with me as smoothly (though I did like them), 'so you wont talk? There you go'. It's Spidey but, I dunno...
In ASM2 it's like Peter practises the quips and now delivers them like a seasoned stand up comic.
Faster pace, better delivery.

Wasn't really paying attention to how old Peter looked in the sequel as he was in college in high school it was more important that he looked young.
