Yup, I also jumped out of Spidey monthly comics when Peter "died". I came back for Superior Spidey 31 and will continue with TASM 1 next week.

Anyway, I was getting scared with all the reviews but Spider-Neil's review brought the hope back since he's a fellow sucker for Lee-Ditko and Stern's Spidey stuff. Any fan of those books I trust!

I'm confident you'll like Peter/Spidey himself, the performances from principle actors and the action but I'm a little unsure you'll like everything else as it is a flawed movie but personally speaking I freaking LOVED IT. 9/10

I am not used to write reviews,I usually give a score and make some random comments.I just hope I love the movie because I love Spider-Man since I was 3(I'm 22 now).

Not trying to be an attention 'ho here, but I'm posting my review again, since I realized you guys need more positive feedback and maybe some you didn't notice it the first time as it was put in spoilers. So here you go:

I’m so glad that I was able to watch „The Amazing Spider-Man 2“ twice. First time at the German premiere was anything but a positive experience: the audience was totally indifferent and showed it. Barely anyone laughed, barely anyone was thrilled, and no one applauded at the end. Instead of letting myself get into the movie experience, I was desperately searching for the reasons why, which really bummed me out. But then, last Thursday, judging by the reactions of my family and friends, I realized that Marc Webb’s second Spidey flick is pure entertainment for everybody!

Peter Parker couldn’t be any happier. As Spider-Man he’s able to do the most daring stunts above New York with his webs. He’s stopping criminals like Russian mobster Aleksei Sytsevich in no time, thus saving his fellow citizens from evil. Even as ordinary Peter his relationship with Gwen could work out well, if it wasn’t for a promise he once made towards her father: he should stay away from her. Because he’s not able to do so, several opponents will teach him a lesson that will change him forever. Of course I was afraid that Marc Webb could fail at delivering three villains similar to Sam Raimi and his Spider-Man 3. But I can still your fears. Unlike back then, all characters and storylines are perfectly woven into each other, allowing the order of scenes to flow naturally. Obviously a lot is happening in the movie, but it never gets boring. The tone wittingly balances from very light, humorous and almost cartoony to action packed, serious and even extremely sad, without ever drifting too far away from its comic book source. Maybe the wide range of emotions is what attracts a lot of people: you laugh, you cry, you’re thrilled, you’re moved and moments later you’re shocked.

The more grounded and intimate elements from the first movie were sacrificed in favor of a greater spectacle. However, not least thanks to the great cast, you still feel the same charm. Although Electro is the one to fire bolts of lightning, sparks are still flying between Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. That’s one of the many reasons why the bittersweet moments between the two are so well received. Surprisingly, Jamie Foxx is doing way better when he’s sharing the screen time with someone else, too. I’m not saying that he’s a bad actor, but the interaction is ensuring better dynamics – especially in his scenes with Dane DeHaan in the third act… and this has a very good reason. DeHaan is the breakthrough newcomer of recent years! Gritty roles are tailor-made for him. He manages to carry the tragic as well as the ruthless aspect of Harry Osborn. What makes his performance so believable is that he identifies himself with the role entirely. Nothing seems feigned, nothing’s exaggerated about it. Some would say he has the same devotion as late Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Simply put, that boy is an amazing actor!

A lot of people were criticizing “The Amazing Spider-Man” for its lack of action, which was due to Spidey’s late entrance into the film. This time, origin aside, nothing would hinder the second installment to start off with a bang. That’s what Webb did, anyway. Be it the tumultuous first sequence as part of a flashback, or the hilarious car chase, or even the bombastic three-part battle royal at the end… action was huge priority – without ever losing sight of the necessary story as a basis. The fights do not happen for no reason; they result from the villains’ motivations or desires. Even though the film has been converted to 3D, the effects seem better this time around. It’s very impressive, when Spidey seems to web sling his way through sky scrapers right by you, or when Electro blows up his electric power in our faces. Speaking of which, Electro is perfect for such a visuals heavy flick! Using the 3D effect to its maximum, instead of simply whipping out electrical discharge, he seemingly sets the air on fire, thus making the lightning bolts longer visible. The movie’s comic feel has to be praised as well. Aside from Spidey’s poses, whole scenes have nearly been translated directly from comic to film, one of which will leave a lasting impression.

But “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” did not only impress visually. The events of the movie were accompanied with music made by a super group, with award winning film composer Hans Zimmer in the lead. Unlike with all previous Spider-Man films, he approached this one with a modern method. Instead of using a classical score with lots of choirs, Pharrell Williams and the other artists wrote contemporary tracks, which were then transformed to the score. Above all, Electro’s musical theme sticks in one’s mind, mirroring Max Dillon’s scattered thoughts and paranoia. Similar insanity can be heard in the music accompanying Harry as the Green Goblin. In spite of initial skepticism, even Spidey’s new fanfare has a catchy tune to it and is kind of reminiscent of Superman’s theme in the Richard Donner movies.

Conclusion: Paving the way for the future of a large-scale franchise, “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” is in a very positive way an emotional roller coaster. By blending action, romance, tragedy and comedy, which is typical for Spider-Man, this movie is made for everyone. Acting wise the film is again borne by its leads Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone. However, not to be underestimated is Dane DaHaan, who – as we know now – has not for nothing been highly praised by Jamie Foxx. Also to be praised is the back to the (comic) roots feeling with the visuals, using Spidey’s capabilities to their fullest. After this game changing, action packed second installment, I’m looking ahead very confident to Spider-Man’s greatest battle that has only just begun!

Oh I did like it, hence the 8 rating but I want to see it again to see if that rating goes up or down. If you remember I rated TDW 8 as well when I first saw it, that is more like a 7 now after a couple of re-watches.

For my taste, I'll bet I'd want a lot of the trimming that has been done to the movie back in. That includes all the stuff from the trailer that was snipped out, the extended battles, etc. However, the film has been criticized by many for being too long already. Another complaint is that it focuses too much on Peter and Gwen's relationship (that's not a problem for me, it's one of the most important aspects of Webb's film series for me).

So it's a tough job for them I think, juggling all the elements and cutting down the film to a running time that audiences will accept. I'd personally take the 3 hour version with all the goodies but that's just me.

Same here, I honestly understand the complaints about it being too long, for me it was too short if anything. I think because the movie slows RIGHT down in the middle that is why people are saying its too long.

I didn't even realize how long the Movie was. I only noticed it when they suddenly shut the Movie off in the middle. I don't know how it's everywhere else, but here in germany we often get like a 10 minute intermission, when Movies are too long.

They used to do it in England years ago but not many cinemas do it now, I know of only 1 in my hometown of Liverpool and that is due to be shut down.

THAT was annoying as hell
Right in the mood, pumped by the Times Square fight LIGHTS ON, ICE CREAM, BEER, POPCORN, VISIT THE TOILET?
And this time they don't bother to announce it.
Even if I've seen the movie at the premiere before it was unpleasant that they gave all the spidey experts in the room time to spoil what's probably going on in the next hour.

Can some one shed light on what happens to Norman in the film?

I've read that he dies. But we've also read that his severed head is frozen and there is a seen where the Man in the Shadows comes and walks past the Ock arms and Vulture wings and tells him that it's time to "wake up."

Was that all a load of it? Or does that happen? I've seen set pictures, were those fakes?

Do we even find out who the Man in the Shadows is? Or have all the "We've got big plans for you...Peter Parker" stuff been cut out like the more interesting snippets from the first film's trailers about Peter's parents were cut from that film.

He apparently dies but you don't know what happens to him. There is a scene where medical staff enters his room and they have the cryo-box with them where his head is supposed to go. They scan his upper body/head and then the scene is over. You do find out who the man in the shadows is, they give you his name etc. The scene with Normans head apparently exists out there (probably a deleted scene) but is not used in the movie. You see the man in the shadows walking past the gadgets (Wings, Tentacles and Rhino who is replacing the symbiote) in the end and then it cuts to the Rhino rampage in the streets.

Upon reflection, the thing I really like about the conclusion of this film and in combination with the first is that, in a way, Peter's personal baggage doesn't weigh him down any longer.

Not saying he's completely over the deaths in his life but between those and the mystery of his parents, by the end of this film, they won't/don't (I think) define him from here on out. It reminds me a lot of the end of the Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy and how it ends for Bruce Wayne. He may never be complete but it's not the driving force that defines him.

It's the same with Peter Parker, in a way, at the end of this film. And I think it's rather nice.
