Is anybody else reading this miniseries?

It's about a group of superheroes formed by the government and they put on fake battles to keep Americans at peace that they are being protected.

There's a little more to that, but that's the jist of the story. It takes place in the 1960's, so it deals a lot with racism and the issues that plagued the 1960's, and still even today...if you can believe that.

So far, after four issues, it's become quite a little interesting read to me. Noticed that there wasn't a thread for this, or I didn't search correctly, but if anybody else is reading this it'd be cool to see what other people think of this.

I think it's pretty good. Kind of corny that only the southern heroes have a problem with the black character. Like all northerners would have openly embraced him...right.

Uh...I'm an adult. And you are living in some fantasy world if you think ALL northerners were on some "we can all get along" reverse Rodney King *****. It's not even like that NOW, much less back then.

I never claimed they weren't racist as well. But when did the last lynching in the North occur? I would find it believable that northern americans would be more tolerant of black people than southerners in the 60's. But you have read it, I haven't. Maybe it is over the top like you said, I'll have to check it out for myself.

I didn't say "over the top"...it is a superhero comic, after all...I just think that it would have made sense for at least some of the northern heroes to be skeptical as well.

As far as lynchings...that's not the only form of racism of course. Yusef Hawkins, anyone?

WHOOPS! Sorry, Elijya. I thought that since it was released by Wildstorm that it'd go into the Misc comics. I completely forgot that DC owns the Wildstorm name now.

And I do agree that not just all the southern characters would/should have walked away. But just because people didn't become more vocal than the others doesn't mean they weren't thinking racist thoughts. I've seen many white people hang around black people all the time but when there aren't any black people around it's "N-word this and N-word that".

Southern white people are a little more vocal about their racism.

The lynching analogy was to illustrate the point that northerners may heve been as racist in the 60's as their southern counterparts, but open expressions of racial hatred were tolerated a lot longer in the south than they were in the north.

I'm just saying that what sticks out to you as odd, doesn't seem that out of place to me, but like I said, you've read it, I haven't.
