I've just completed the third volume and from what I've heard it gets better.
So far it's a little complex and weird but it's just so damn creative and interesting to read. I really love how a small character in the background or a brief mention of someone becomes important later on.
Anybody else love this series?

Doesn't this belong in the DC forum? Being as it's a DC comic, and takes place in the DCU?

I've only read the first two volumes, but I liked what I read of it. Looking forward to getting into the rest of the series too.

I really like that in the 2nd volume with the serial killer convention that a lesser writer would make that situation gory as hell. Neil Gaiman on the other hand doesn't shed a single drop of blood but makes it truly disturbing.

Just finished the sixth volume and loved it. And while reading this comic, this topic came to mind. I like it so much more when a writer has a planned ending to the comic. I know when I come to the end of Sandman, I'll want more but I'll be glad it ended on a good note. While comics like Spiderman or Batman go on and on and run out of ideas until they start to retcon things so much that the original origin isn't in the universe anymore. For example, Gwen Stacy and Norman getting it on and I read that Thomas Wayne isn't dead anymore and he is evil. I mean really? Doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of Batman's origin?

Fortunatey, from what I can tell, all the stuff about Thomas Wayne was revealed to be a fake. The stuff with Osborn and Gwen, though, is just inexcusable.

it's pretty sad that only a few people around here seem to appreciate the sandman comics. i speak for myself ow and say that sandman is by far one of the best comictales i've read in my whole life. you said it, the story is so creative and intelligent, with so many layers. such a wonderful tale.

I think everyone here who has read Sandman - and that's probably a sizeable audience here - appreciates it. We just don't talk about it much anymore.

Sandman is possibly the best series ever written. I mean, Watchmen would obviously be in there, but it is just a 12 issue story arc, whereas Sandman went on for years, without ever having a down moment. It was truly great from start to finish.

The only arc I'm not a fan of is "A Game of You". It's all right, but the weakest of the stories. Otherwise, the series is phenomenal.

Sandman was the series that caused me to pay attention to the Vertigo line of comics, and caused me to lose interest in superhero comics.

Neil Gaiman will always have my gratitude

You know ive tried to read a little bit of it but something about the early artwork really stops me from getting in to it. Im not knocking Neil Gaiman at all hes def one of my favorite writers and Sandman is def no exception, its just not my cup of tea, though i am trying to read a bit more of it to really appreciate it.

Couldn't agree more. Anyone who bags comics I just give them Sandman to read and it changes their tune. I've probably 'converted' about five people who never otherwise would think for a second about the medium.
