Good post. I agree with you fully. I just hope everyone else feels the same way.

Your effort to make this a better place for everyone is commendable.

I salute you.

Hoorah for kind people

nobody is hurting anyone... its a symble.

Its just really sad to see him getting this personal. We are all supposed to be fans here, the GAM thing was NEVER anything serious, why take so much offence?

The antics of some people.

Fun is fun, when fun is sucked out of the boards what is the point of posting? If some posters want to take this seriously that is for them to decide. For me, this is fun and something to do to when I am at my desk at work or at home and have some time to kill. Nothing more, nothing less.

Yep this is my filler of life. When I have my rare few minutes from living I come here every month or so....

I found it Wes, let's see if it still has any merit.

After a big thread like the Box Office thread being closed because of so much bickering I doubt it

as much as i would love for this thread to work i just don't see that happening. as long as there are opinions there will be conflict, but.....best of luck to this thread.

True...but sometimes, the opinions are used as weapons against people with other opinions...so there are opinions and then there are attacks, and sadly the latter happens more frequently here

There will never be an end to differening opinions, which means there will not be a complete end to the attacks on this area of the board. The question is can we disagree in a civil manner? Sometimes I see it, and sometimes we can't do it, and it becomes contagious.

Peace on messageboards is like trying to achieve utopia. It will never happen because it doesn't exist.

If you try to reign in people or enforce an artificial peace, you'll create your own suffocating forum of cold effect and boredom like the culture on Krypton.

A timely bump after the closing of the BO thread Showy:up:it seems that some are now using the BO as a "we told you it sucked" mechanism which is really not the case IMO,of course both sides were spinning like crazy but some were in it for the pleasure of it's failure, lets hope we can get back to where it was a few weeks ago but i get the feeling given the mass polar opposite views SR has created that no level ground can be reached

Nice analogy. Isn't that what has become of the boards though? Seperate threads for those with differing opinions.

I try to pull this out of the woodwork whenever I see fit, you can only play a card for so long. I always liked the idea of this thread, since C. Lee opened the original. Let's see if it survives another go around.

I agree, it turned into a thread ripping the movie or defending the movie, the box office justifying the fact that it was horrible to some, to others it meant that people were missing out on something great.

I miss the box office thread already because I loved to see how some of the posters compiled statistics to form their opinions on box office trends. It was pretty damn cool to me. :O

they've shut down the BO Thread

then the Complaints thread.

oh well, they were good while they lasted :O

Not anymore....they are both closed....I am absolutely sick and tired of the whining and everyone acting like 3 year olds.

What else could you do?

I would have done the same, all the whining and complaining sucks the fun out this place.

Imagine my suprise to log on and see the box office thread shut down! I hadn't much time to post lately, but I was planning on seeing it through to the end. Oh well, c'est la vie.

Now, shall we argue about whether to be civil. ;)

It's a shame, but what can you do.

I for one always looked forward to your posts GL.

Absolutely. No one knows how to discuss things anymore. If someone has an opinion that is different from yours...that doesn't automaticly make them the devil's spawn without a brain....it makes them someone with a different opinion.

First poster calls someone a bad name.
Second poster calls him a name back.
First poster PMs me and complains about being called a name.
Second poster PMs me and complains about being called a name.
Before I can get here...the two posters have spent three pages calling each other bad names and have now drawn several other posters into the argument.
I show up...tell people to stop arguing....and get called a Nazi for not allowing the sweet little angles here to freely express themselves.

Yeah GL was awesome and pretty accurate with his stats and predictions

I think sadly the hate for the movie is so strong within some and the love so strong in others that they are all unable to discuss it civily b/c they all won't accept or even entertain a view or take on a scene/piece of dialogue etc that isn't either loaded with hate or loaded with praise, they won't have a middle ground it's all or nothing

At times it has. But it goes in cycles. I remember (as I'm sure you do) of the negative/positive fervor upon the release of the first suit pic. Even if I get into a heated discussion, I try (but don't always succeed) in keeping it at least semi-civil. People are human, though, so I expect a little discontent every now and again. My kill reflex goes into overdrive at the mention of Smallville. I may need therapy to cure my hatred of that show.

The arguments really are textbook on these boards, it's almost as if you know what's going to happen before it does. What you have written above is almost like a script to the back and forth on these boards.

Then when you or another MOD steps in, whatever you do is wrong. "You're biased", "You're unfair", "You're wrong". You can't win my man, but I know all of you do your best.

No doubt about it, GL was and is my go to guy for Box Office from here on in.

It really is sad Hunt, I love movies and I love Superman. This is a great place for me to kill time and clear my head. Met alot of cool people, some I have become pretty damn close with, heck you can even do business. I am writing a script with Metropolisman and Shamik is doing all the reference art for us.

What can you do? I try not to get sucked into it.

There's nothing wrong with expressing opinions, even in rather extreme forms, people just shouldn't cast aspersions on those who hold the opposite view. Saying, "I really hate the design of the Superman suit in SR," is fine, but saying, "The design of the suit sucks and anyone who likes it is an idiot," isn't fine.
