The Art of Civility Revisited

Exactly. And claiming "superiority" to others on a messageboard REALLY isn't much of an accomplishment.

This place seems as quiet as a graveyard after the "execution" of the 2 threads.

Thats why I think those threads needed to be closed, cut them off at the knees.

It's sort of weird how thick (or thin in this case) skinned people can be. I can understand the necessity in terms of language and monitoring of materials that could be deemed 'offensive' (which I find offensive), but I honestly couldn't care less if I get called names, get banned, get ridiculed, be proven wrong, be disagreed with etc.

That's not to say that I'm going to proclaim all out war on your little pseudo goverment with it's policies, rules and procedures, but I would just like to make vocal that you need to be careful that not every little indescretion is reported for the heinous crime of not adhering to the guidelines of your little club.

If there are to rules and guidelines to be set up, submit them to a moderator and wait for a sticky thread. People shouldn't need to trawl through pages and pages of discussion in the hopes of finding what users have deemed acceptable behavior in that particular thread on that particular subject on that particular day.

I fail to see how 12 pages of head nodding in agreement is the answer.

Hmmm, something vaguely familiar about this posting style.....

The English language in it's written form is popular medium of communication. If someone's gotten there before me, maybe I should alter my style to something more in keeping with 'batman roolz lol!11zz check diz lnk!'.

All the cool kids are doing it.

Whatevs.

I would, however, appreciate a response to my original query in regards to the submition of ideas to moderators.

I am sure you'll receive...a response...shortly.

Bottom line is that namecalling or focus on other users in a thread is off topic and it ruins the thread. People who need to namecall or change the focus from the topic of the thread to one of the users participating in the thread really have nothing of relevance to add the topic at hand.

When one wants to read about for example BO, one wants to read about exactly that. Not to read about a user. And if one joins the discussion one is not interested to hear what another user thinks of you. THere are to many posts where a user attacks another users person, and posts where one user defends his/her person because its attacked.

It's a waste of time, it's off topic and it adds nothing of quality or relevance to the topic at hand.

Players going after players and not the ball should not be allowed out on the playingfield. :)

No artillery fire or nukes in this thread...?:(

That sucks...:down :o

No offense, but That assertion makes me terribly sick. Did no one see my GSAC thing? A group I founded to hopefully remind people that singer deserves a chance before having fruit and veggies tossed at him. The "vibe" was incredibly positive, even after the news of the kid throwing pianos. Saying it was doomed from the start is completely baseless. ...I believe this is an attempt to make people feel guilty....
Why does my observation make you feel sick? Of course, this is just a personal observation, and an almost-outsider's one at that since I wasn't here from the very beginning. It isn't the fault of anyone outside of SR's production that they felt good or not good about the movie, or that the movie is or isn't good. I kept an open mind about SR, but deep down I just wasn't feeling positive vibes about it. Since you had to make a group to "remind people" to give Singer a chance, I doubt that this board was replete with love and support, LOL. I don't think that people should feel guilty because of what they feel, although I think that they should express their views carefully so there's no fighting.

And BTW, me saying that SR was "doomed" was completely tongue-in-cheek, as displayed by the :p

I also have another suggestion - I do have to read through lots of one-on-one arguments in threads and frankly, it's starting to annoy me. Maybe we could make it a policy (if it isn't already) to take OT personal discussions to PM to clear out the thread.

It makes me feel terribly sick personally as the founder of the famous SHH group G.S.A.C, Give singer a chance, to read some say things like that about the pre-hype being :ghost: bad or the like. But it's true...I do see that maybe I started it because there was some negativity brewing so yeah, ok, you got me there but honestly I don't remember that well. It was around the time moriarty came along with his script review and everyone was denying that singer gave superman a child, bla bla, arguments, then some declaring singer'd be lynched if it held true, so yes it was that way for a while but people still gave him a chance IT'S SUPERMAN, who wants to be dissapointed?...

Oh, well that's why I posted I felt sick. It's just that that's been thrown around alot and I just think it's unfair to say no one gave the film a chance when a lot of people did and even found something they liked a lot about it, like Jason. But maybe some didn't. I don't really know for sure. Ok and the doomed part was not serious, I see... it certainly wasn't, from my personal observation, with hype being as good as it was.

I like the one on one arguments but that is a good suggestion for easier reading I suppose.

I could say the same about your posting style. :o

I'm still trying to sort all of this out. Are we not allowed to complain anymore? To express opinions even if we ignore trolls? I liked (and stuck to) the complaint thread because I felt it was one of the few places to talk with like-minded folks without having people jump all over you, though I admit people had gotten too defensive of our freedom of speech there.

Sigh.

Oh well- the Superman Returns (Spoilers) board just got a whole lot less interesting IMHO.

I say it a million times....and no one hears.

I have never said that people can not complain.

I have never said that people can not compliment.

I have never said that people can not discuss, debate, compare, disect, laugh about, cry about, or joke about the movie.

I just repeatedly and repeatedly and repeatedly......tell you guys to stop name calling, attacking, belittling, and needlessly arguing with each other. Is that really so hard to do?

Sorry C.- I didn't mean to rehash... just expressing feelings. For my part at least I always try to ignore trolls, would rarely ever resort to calling in a mod for help unless its warranted and if you browse my posts I always respect (or try my damndest to) other poster's opinions whether I agree with them or not. I absolutely agree that things had gotten out of hand and needed to be changed. I guess I just found it easier (maybe I'm a lazy poster) to just keep checking, reading and posting to one thread no matter what wacky random thought came to my mind without feeling like I was 'derailing' a thread.

On that note maybe we just need a 'Random Superman Returns Thoughts' thread. Just an idea.

And on a non-SR note, knowing what a Doc fan you are I was wondering what you thought of 'The Avenger'. :)

You mean....Richard Henry Benson?

closing the box office thread was dumb. yeah people bickered in it, but not any more so than any other thread. Aside from that it had some decent discussion of the business angle of the films.
I've never seen Elijya post in this forum once, and then all of a sudden he swoops in out of nowhere and closes the thread? No offense but they should have more forum specific moderation, or he should've at least deferred to you C.Lee since you've spent more time than him in here.

Not to me....but you are the only other person on here that I've heard speak of him....so wasn't sure.

He's a cool character (I have all of the Bantam reprints...even the Ron Goulard ones carrying on the storyline).....always found his crew pretty fascinating.

The fact that they were written in the 30's and had two black characters that were intelligent and not caracatures or stereotypes (as so many others of the times were) make them especially decent books.

I loved his cast of characters, in some ways more than Doc's (more 'human' feeling, not all experts in their various fields). The concept was interesting. I was underwhelmed by the second (most recent) comic book outing- the one that had him sticking cartridges in his neck (WHATever) but I always thought he would make a great film character. I never saw the film but when the Jodie Foster film 'Flightplan' came out all I could think of was the origin story for The Avenger. :)

I didn't know they had done a recent comic (I have the ones DC did many years ago)...I really thought he was a forgotten book.

Although I will always love Doc and his crew....Benson, with his group of men, women, and people of non European ancestry as his friends and helpers did tend to humanize him more.
