The Batman (1966) Appreciation Thread - Part 1

One of my great joys has been to watch these with my 7 and 9 year old boys. Adam West is Batman to them. I agree with the above sentiments, that the movie takes on new meaning as you get older. And I love it. My favorite line of the movie: "they may be drinkers Robin, but they're also human beings."

I love the show. Victor Buono as King Tut was brilliant. And Cliff Robertson as Shame is classic.

I like the part where they talk about the noble porpoise.

And yeah, King Tut is always funny. Pure coincidence, but I actually watched the episode with Shame just a few days after I saw the real "Shane". I think it's funny how they parodied the annoying kid. "Shame! Shaaame!":woot:

The movie is full of hilarious lines. The solving of the riddles in Gordon's office;

Gordon: "What weighs six ounces, sits in a tree, and is very dangerous?"
Robin: "A sparrow with a machine gun"
Gordon: "Oh yes of course"

lol. Lest we not forget the closing lines: " we should leave Robin. But inconspicuously. Out the window."

Adam West was on Big Bang Theory last thursday, He brought the funny.
Too bad the other parts of the episode were a bore.

West always brings the funny, even to crap shows like that.

It’s been a while!

I agree, West was great, his delivery is priceless.

Interesting bit of trivia; Bob Hastings who was the voice of Commissioner Gordon in BTAS, appeared in this show as a character called Major Beasley in the episode 'Penguin sets a trend' in season 2;

Been a while since I watched the show now, because of season three. Lost my interest after watching 7 or 8 episodes of it. Hard to watch.

Series 3 is the worst of the original run, but I did welcome the new format. It was a breath of fresh air for a show as formulaic as Batman.

The worst thing about series 3 was the shoestring budget the show was reduced to. One episode a week, which cut down the scripts, and many of the sets looked cheap and hokey.

That's a pretty cool detail I had no idea about, I wonder (if he speaks in the episode) if we could hear his recognizable tone. Or if he changed his voice enough that we wouldn't tell by comparison.

He has lots of dialogue with Penguin and an army General in the episode. Personally I couldn't really hear his Commissioner Gordon voice when he spoke. So I'm assuming he changed his voice up for the role.

Do they still sell the Limited Edition version of the complete series on Amazon?

I finally bought the limited collector's edition of the Blu-ray set earlier this week, which is a terrific set. I'm just getting through the last few episodes of season one and I've been having a blast. Besides watching the movie and a few reruns over the course of my life I cannot be more pleased with finally getting to view the series from start to finish.

Hah! Nice. Hastings also had a role in The Amazing Spider-man live action TV series pilot in 1977.

You never saw the whole series from beginning to end before? Enjoy. It's a great ride, even though season 3 isn't as good as the first two.

^ Nice.

I hoping we hear something about the animated movie soon.

Almost done waiting for it to dry then I'll add the bat emblems and the batarang tomorrow. It's close enough to 60s show 70s comics suit color.
