There were two screen tests for the roles of Batman and Robin. Adam West and Burt Ward got the roles.....but Lyle Waggoner (who would later become Col. Steve Trevor on Lynda Carter's WONDER WOMAN) and Peter Deyell also tested for the roles. Here are some pics of them from it.

Apparently he was very, very, VERY serious on set. Rarely smiled, didn't socialize with the other cast, never brought his family to the set etc.
Probably a serious actor who didn't like zany and goofy.

Costume test pics for King Tut.

According to Adam West's biography he took the role very seriously. He would get frustrated when other actors messed up their lines or burst out laughing and ruined a take. Which happened a lot as you can imagine given the campy nature of the show. The actors were always laughing.

He also didn't like how scene stealing Chief O'Hara was in his scenes.

I've seen him in a lot of old movies. Don't remember him being in anything zany except BATMAN. If he had done that for 40 or so years, I could see him not acclimating to it. Personally, I think it would have been great to be on a BATMAN set.
