The Batman General News & Discussion Thread - Part 2

God I love this video

I flip flop between Mask of the Phantasm and Arkham City as my favorite Batman themes overall, but Walker had the best leitmotif by absolute far. If there's more to Giacchino's, it has the potential to rival it. But the different paths Walker's leitmotif can take as it basically tells the story of Batman in its entirety through nothing but music just cannot be topped

Jesus I miss her. The things I'd give to hear her play this theme again on modern equipment. Even hearing it briefly in JL vs Fatal Five made me lose my s**t

Glad to hear it is still getting some use in DC animated features... Any chance you can point me where I can find the arrangement of the theme from JL vs Fatal Five? Am curious how other composers have adapted Walker's theme since her passing...

She really doesn't get enough credit. I will never understand why Walker didn't get a big breakthrough as a composer for theatrical features like her male contemporaries. Her talents were definitely comparable.

Yeah sure, it's here (at the end)

Works pretty well. As I said, I lost my goddamn mind hearing it again honestly. And yeah, her underappreciation is absolutely criminal. What Elfman pioneered, Walker perfected

Also here's the actual music used (also right at the end). It's Kristopher Carter, who did Batman Beyond's soundtrack. Which just makes all the sense in the world

Thanks!

By the way, not many people know this, but a young Hans Zimmer worked under her as synthesist on Mask of the Phantasm, so there is a kind of neat chain of custody from Elfman through Zimmer. Since Walker was Elfman's conductor on Batman and then she went onto compose for BTAS, with Zimmer working under her, and then Zimmer going on to do the Nolan trilogy.

Yeah I was aware of that, it's pretty neat. Then Junkie XL did work on Dark Knight Rises and eventually made his own Batman theme in BvS/ZSJL. So that daisy chain has kinda carried on, too

Yeah, I was going to mention that but I thought it later came out that despite the plan for Hans to compose for Supes and Junkie for Bats, Zimmer ended up composing for Bats as well, so I wasn't sure if he qualified the same way.

I'm pretty sure it was less that Zimmer composed solely for both and more it was a joint effort on Batman while Zimmer only did Supes for the most part. Might be that Zimmer was more involved for the more emotional aspects and JXL focused on the action, given Zimmer used Beautiful Lie again in WW84. Kinda ironic, given it was backwards if I recall with James Newton Howard

Thanks!

So Zimmer worked in MOTF?! Wow!!

kinda off topic but a man dressed as Joker stabbed a couple people with a knife and set the train on fire tonight in Tokyo.

Well the critics that freaked out that it was gonna happen after Joker are vindicated at last.

I feel like Mad Hatter would fit this universe well. I remember in legends of The Dark Knight Halloween Special #3 (collected in Haunted Knight), Tetch ends up with Gothams young runaways in an abandoned place called Hill House. I feel with themes of orphans and all that, somethings similar could fit well. I mean, depending on the Riddlers origins too of course.
