This is what I was thinking off when I saw thae trailer!! Just a purely unhinged Bats beating the crap out of some thug.
And again, this is something that I'm not a huge fan of. We've seen this thoroughly explored in other films; of Batman being this beastial, out-of-control, barbaric force... I mean, how do you think Snyder would describe his version of the character?

The ideas that Reeves initially presented about a grounded, noir detective, almost Hitchcockian-esque film that were present in early marketing (esp that FANTASTIC teaser trailer), seem to have been eroded to emphasize, or rather, reveal the above characterization, which in many ways, is a contradiction of those ideas.

I really didn't enjoy the trailer. It feels like a completely different movie (and characterization) from the teaser... A movie we've already seen.

The movie is still a 3 hour detective movie. He's talking in a normal tone to Gordon. That'll be most of the movie. The action and outbursts are obviously more marketable so that's what we're getting in a big action trailer. Yes, he'll be angry Batman underneath but it seems he'll actually be pretty stoic as a detective with Gordon. And it was always meant to explore the psyche of Batman, that's why Ego was one of the main inspos - the idea of Batman not being in full control was always going to be part of it.

It's still a modern Batman blockbuster movie and you gotta have these other elements. There's no chance Pattinson would ever take the role if it wasn't weirdo troubled Batman and to me this trailer is delivering on that initial idea that's in the first trailer too, just showcasing the action side rather than the mood of the first trailer. The movie will have both those sides, it's not like they threw out what we've already seen

And yes BvS did it too but honestly when Batmans killing it just taints so much of it it's like it never even counted (imo). So I'm perfectly fine with some double dipping on some ideas that could be cool if executed better.

Yeah its a little early to write off this batman as just another Savage batman, with little nuance and substance. The Riddler and Bruce's relationship with Gordon alone are enough to justify all of the good noir/detective angles we haven't seen.

Heh, that fits almost better than the DepressedWhineyBeatles track.

Only saw bits and pieces of that show here and there, but do like the theme a bunch.

Looove The Batman’ 04 cartoon. So underrated.
This 2nd trailer is the ‘general audience’ one, the focus here is the action and money shots who all look amazing. No way WB would sell one of its flagships as a “psychological journey” only… and IMO they are doing a great marketing, covering the deeper aspects of the film (like who’s the riddler? We’ve barely seen him)

It's interesting seeing you say that because my first thought was "not only are we getting a noir/detective Batman tale, but it'll also deliver action in spades". Seems pretty well rounded to me. And I'm not sure that Batfleck is the perfect comparison. Saying they're both angry and violent seems like a shallow assessment. Sure, on the surface they are those things, but the story on how they get to those points is where it'll be interesting (and consequently, what they do after the fact).

I dunno, the idea that Batman is a ruffian patrolling the streets looking for criminals to beat up kinda runs contrary to the idea of him not only being a sophisticated, highly intelligent detective, but also one of the world's GREATEST (detectives). It's the classic brains vs brawns

This is what I thought his arc would be, becoming the world's greatest detective. And I could've sworn Reeves said as much

I never got the vibe that Affleck's version of Batman was a brilliant detective-, let alone a genius. He always came off as a brute with some minor investigative skills. And it's really a shame that Reeves is choosing to emphasize that element witn Pattinson

There is more than one way to show somebody is "unhinged" or "off", then just having them brutalize people up :funny:

Batfleck was brutal but he also turned into a killer close to 20 years in. In fact, I think he was always a killer because Snyder didn't really understand where the criticisms were coming from. He thought Batman shot someone point blank in Miller's book and also tore the fans down for thinking that Batman would never kill. In this case, Battinson isn't a killer at the start but he's close to committing it based on his anger. He'll obviously go through an arc where he'll realize (a year and a half in - not 20 years) that he doesn't have to be so brutal. And that he can help the city in other ways because right now he's refusing to use his money for good, and that will change. What does that have to do with Batfleck? Battinson is already a great detective which is highlighted with this movie and I'm sure he'll improve since he's young and Edward will challenge him. Again, nothing like Batfleck or Bale.

The Affleck version doesn't own the entire concept of a Batman taking his frustrations out on criminals and choosing to ease up a bit as he enters his prime. It makes much more sense for a young Batman to go through these growing pains than a 20 year veteran who should know better. And this guy isn't killing, wont kill in the future. So it's not at all the same thing.

Fighting criminals and having detective skills aren't mutually exclusive. Reeves has talked about the noir/mystery/detective side of it all far and away more than the action. He even refers to the action as an afterthought some times, but these movies need that so he didn't skimp on it nor phone it in from what we've seen so far. This trailer was clearly selling the action and characters. I think it's safe to say that it won't just be dumb **** between action scenes for 150+ mins.
