The BATSUIT Thread

Glyn Dillon and David Crossman have such an array of cool designs under their belt in the Star Wars films that it’s hard for me to believe they’d churn out something this iffy looking if it wasn’t intended to be a proto-Batsuit kind of a thing.

I also feel it's kinda at odds with the focus on Detective aspect of Batman. This looks like a dude who is about to be shipped out to another country to fight a war. I understand that it's the "War on crime" but I feel a sleeker design would have fit a young Batman who more of a detective investigator and less of a guerrilla soldier locked into a war on crime. This is what Nolan focused on.

That's the vibe I got from that first look. A much quieter, subdued Batman who doesn't get into slugfest with a criminal but takes him down in a precise manner.
Have you seen Matt Reeves movies? I loved his planet of the apes films, so don’t get me wrong, but you do realize in essence it’s kind of bootleg Nolan, right?

Just like we have to imagine the character of Bruce Wayne being a Batman himself? :funny:

This logic is stupid af.

Take for instance these pictures. That suit looks goofy as ****.

But it’s the stunt suit.

Meaning, the real “hero” version of the suit isn’t really functional in REAL life. Thus, it’s all pretend.

Just like Chris Evans isn’t really a super soldier in real life and we have to make believe.

Or Tony Stark aka Robert Downey Jr isn’t actually wearing a super impractical advanced weaponized jet suit of armor.

:whatever:

Do you know how dumb that sounds, Guard?

It’s crazy, when I was 18 or 19 years old, I used to think you were smart on these boards.

I also have never understood your affinity for pot shots at the Nolan franchise. Yet I will see you bend over backwards to defend things much worse.

Is it because your script you used to let us read back in the day was just a poor man’s version of the Nolan brothers?

Learn to post without throwing in insults at everyone with different opinions.

I think it makes a lot of sense for this to be a proto suit.
Im sure it is and I just hope this one gets plenty of screen time.
I love how rough it is.

It can't really be a proto-suit if this is Year Two. It can be an initial suit that gets replaced by another one, but I'm not holding my breath.

Dude, you gotta stop riding Christopher’s Nolan.

Emma Thomas sets down a bowl of soup in front of Christopher Nolan.

He picks up the spoon and takes a sip, only to spit it out.

Nolan: Cold!
Emma: It's vichyssoise.
Nolan: [stares, not knowing why it's important]
Emma: It's *supposed* to be cold.

Emma: Dear, I think you have another stalker on your hands.
Nolan: Oh.
Emma: Yes.
Nolan: Bloody hell! Add him to that ''watch'' list.

No...because the actor generally works fairly hard to create a given illusion. He doesn't just slap some ridiculous looking pleathery nonsense on a mesh jumpsuit, toss some exposition at us about it helping Batman to move better but not stop blades, and expect that to suffice for the crappy visual concept that has been presented.

Take for instance these pictures. That suit looks goofy as ****.

So...you say "goofy", but I assume you notice that the design itself is actually kind of silly? That he's riding around on a motorcycle with little bat ears?

Just like Chris Evans isn’t really a super soldier in real life and we have to make believe.

I never said anything about not being able to imagine anything. I said it was harder to imagine the overdesigned nonsense in TDK and Rises was armor.

I think there's a difference between what obviously looks like a high-tech metal suit, and say, the gauntlets and legs as presented in The Dark Knight. Which look like overdesigned pleather.

Whereas, for instance, the padded pants of this suit...they look like padded pants.

Do you know how dumb that sounds, Guard?

Is it as dumb as the overdesigned puzzle piece nonsense of the Nolan suits?

It’s crazy, when I was 18 or 19 years old, I used to think you were smart on these boards.

I take pot shots at all kinds of things, as do most people here.

Is it because your script you used to let us read back in the day was just a poor man’s version of the Nolan brothers?

This is the second time you've brought this up, seemingly for no apparent reason. What gives? Just jonesing to use a logical fallacy?

The suit looks good on Pattinson in the test footage because it is fitted to his anatomy. The suit on stunt guys will always look weird. Especially since the suits they’re wearing needs to be modified for the stunts they’re doing. The suit overall doesn’t look bad to me. I also don’t know what’s going on in the story. Maybe he only uses the things on his gauntlets once in the entire film. Idk. It just needs to be seen in action.

The stunt guy who made Ben Affleck’s entire performance noteworthy in Batman versus Superman begs to differ

This guy looked BETTER in the suit than the main actor it was tailored for ... all that fake musculature and padding didn’t make him look so fat or bloated

Not seeing anyone saying anything about the eyes. There are lenses over his eyes. Will they stay dark like we see here or will we get white?

It’s the context ...

the goofy undefined floppy ears

the bulbous yet undefined cowl

the giant BUG eyes

the overly busy forearm guards

the floppy scallops on the gauntlets looking like possible straps.

Without proper theatrical or atmospheric lighting. Plus no cape.

Not every Bat suit can be the TDK/TDKR suit where it looks damn imposing in broad daylight or harsh lighting.

It’s a stunt suit. After the blurry, dark red screen test tease ... Reeve’s should’ve known better and released a traditional Burton / Nolan / Snyder style atmospheric promotional shot to circumvent the potential irrational quick first judgments.

It’s their own fault. TBH
Doesn't seem so bad from this description.

Because I find every aspect of the thing (except the symbol, which is pretty nice) extremely ugly. The head shape, the overly clunky armour and straps, the damn collar, certainly the ridiculous ears.

Again, Pattinson/hero suit and official images and most importantly story context could at least make me respect it, but so far... it's just as ugly as that Gotham show thing.
Not for me, nothing came close to looking that ugly.
