I'm not fond of the collar as an extension of the armor when it's this high and rigid, but it does add something distinctive to his sillhouette and it'll become part-and-parcel w the "feel" of this new Batman. If I could get rid of one element, it would be the shoulder pads, which are like these flappy pieces of plastic that look like they'll pop every time he moves his arms.

I feel like from a costume design standpoint the shoulder pads are to give Pattinson a little more bulk on the top, because let’s face it, he clearly hasn’t bulked up that much.

But those are just the regular suits with something missing. Nothing about the new suit in these set pics looks missing (apart from the cape, of course), unfinished, or made out of some kind of cheaper material than a "hero" suit would have.

They're the regular suits but they have things missing, they're crudely fitting and flat out look ugly

Yeah now that you have pointed this out , I think it's really close to JLM Batsuit. (there were a few variations of it) But, the Collar, the shoulder pads, the pointed ears, the metallic armor are all there.

I hope that whoever created the lower drawing took an anatomy class after this, because if Batman’s crotch was that big, he’d have a serious problem.

You know... the more I look at it, I’ll be damned if this thing doesn’t look like an A24 Batman.

A24 is my favorite studio, and the only blu-rays I buy other than from Nolan/Tarantino/etc. these days, when they release.

While A24 films do work with smaller budgets than the big blockbusters, I don't necessarily see that as a negative. Typically I find that A24's best films make a lot more use out of their budgets than most of the big studio films that come out nowadays and it usually works really well in grittier films like what Reeves seems to be going for here.

Hell, just check out the recent trailer for A24's upcoming film The Green Knight. I'd wager it's working with a smaller budget than most other modern film adaptations of Arthurian legend, but it looks way more cinematic than the competition.



So personally, calling this "the A24 Batsuit" doesn't feel like a negative description at all. It just looks really believable and cinematic to me.

Even if it's a compliment, I still wouldn't go that far with this suit yet as it's likely Pattinson's will look significantly higher budget.

... Nah, sorry Invader, but I'm sticking with the "A24 Batman" description. It works too well imo. In general, it just feels like Reeves and Co. are aiming for something a lot more special than the average superhero film and I know some of us have tossed around the A24 comparisons before.

BB, B21 > B89, BR > BvS, SS > BF, TDK > B&R > JL

I get that it's a candid set photo of the stunt double, but the cowl looks absolutely dreadful.. I had said the ears would make or break the cowl for me & they definitely break it. The whole thing looks an odd shape as well unless that's something they're going to clean up in post.

As for the rest of the suit, it looks like he's wearing riot police gear, with a cowl & bat symbol..

It's underwhelming even if it is supposed to be a 'low tech' suit.

Unsure of batman 2021 yet. Need to see official in movie and in motion.

Yup, I said the exact same thing. It also doesn't help that those gauntlets are absolutely ugly.

I don't really give too much thought or care for the batsuits... but if I had to pick a favorite, it would be the Begins suit only because of how well Nolan used it to tell the story.

In reality it was rubber, but we have to make believe it’s armor.

You know like how The Guard complained about the Nolan suits earlier in this thread LOL we’re pretending over all of these costume

See, the thing is, BVS absolutely does the screen work to show bullets and knives bouncing off and or deflecting off the cowl and gauntlets, Batman taking blows, etc. It doesn’t just toss some exposition at us about how the armor is flexible yet useless against knives and gunfire. You know, the things Batman would generally need armor for. It’s fine though, because in Nolan’s world, the criminals just try to hit Batman with their guns, not shoot him.

Unfortunately I just couldn’t pretend that the Nolan TDK suit didn’t generally look like ridiculously overdesigned hot garbage.

The suit is clearly black and gray. I get that riot police sometimes wear padded pants and have things that buckle...but where do some of you live that riot police wear anything resembling that torso armor?

My updated thoughts, based on the set pics: overall, I love the suit itself and the ramshackle, utilitarian concept. I've come around to the collar, but the jury is still out on the cowl. The stunt cowl at least looks a little bulbous and oddly shaped to me. I'm hoping Patman's cowl fits more like this fan interpretation, which is amazing IMO (minus the lenses, which I hope are just for the stunt cowl).
