The BATSUIT Thread

I thought it was very effective - and creepy - when Bale did it in the warehouse scene in Begins as well.
I thought it was mysterious and in-control. I never liked any version of batvoice from Bale. I'm probably in the minority, but even "swear to me" was cringe AF.

If Pattinson can't deepen his voice properly to make it sound akin to Kilmer, West or Conroy, I hope he does whisper. I don't need these obnoxious screams, throat cancer or sound modules.

Let Pattinson do his own thing, our super specific uggestions don't mean anything right now because we have no idea how far he can push his voice.

All I would want is a Batman voice that works in a variety of scenes. A voice that can work in interrogation scenes, in scenes of Batman explaining a crime scene, in romance scenes of Batman and Catwoman, in scenes of Batman talking to Gordon, etc.

If I were a criminal being questioned in the middle of the night, by a man in a suit resembling a bat, I'd imagine myself being much more creeped out by that man whispering than I would be by him yelling.

You'd be creeped out either way lmao

I just watched a video called I Bought a Screen Used Robin Costume on Youtube. Somebody bought the Robin costume from Batman & Robin. Its great to see movie old movie costumes like that. I didn't post a link because it might not be allowed because of swearing.

Are those covers "custom" ones by Batman or stock? Trying to figure out what custom work Batman did on that bike. The trailing arm looks like a big flat piece of iron. I would think Batman had a bit more style :)

I don't know enough about motorcycles to know about what models they are or how they have been modified. What little I know I learned from my Dad when I was a kid and he mostly rode Harleys. If I had to guess, the Batcycle looks like a modified BMW police or military model. If so, it is a great choice for Batman.

The less dialogue the better. Speaking to Gordon in his office, whispering makes sense. On a rooftop, they can keep it at a bare minimum, with Gordon doing the talking. Do more scenes in their office than on a roof. Put Catwoman closer to him. It’s easy to pull off.

It’s true, if I was in Gotham, and I looked up to the top of a building, tree, whatever...it’s late...nobody around. And I see a massive shadowy figure that looks like wings hanging down, and ears. I’m going to freeze. Major chill up my spine and neck. Eyes watering “what the **** am I looking at!?”. The figure just stares. That’s more creepy than anything (btw I hope there’s a scene like this). If it were to speak, I’d imagine a spooky whisper would make matters worse lmao. Maybe a growling yell would break the spell instead. I’d still be creeped out but I think a whisper would be more effective and makes Batman come off like he’s always in control. He’s not upset, he just knows how **** will play out. So there’s a calm that surrounds him. Look at Michael Myers. The dude doesn’t speak and it’s way more terrifying. Less is more.

It’s been a while so I watched the Bale “here” scene again, and I’m wrong. Even there he has a bit of a gruff delivery. It’s very Keaton. Same when Bale speaks to Katie in the batcave or to Gordon in Arkham. If Pattinson uses that style, great...but that’s not what I meant.

So I guess my suggestion has never really been done in the movies. Forget the deep voice. Give me a full-blown whisper. I don’t care if they add delay effects in post, just to spook out criminals even more.
The original “here” from the first trailer was a creepy high pitched whisper. Then they either re-did it in post or deepened it in post. I too think a whisper would be creepy.

Keaton slightly lowered his voice and spoke in a cold calm demeanor.

But his interpretation of the character is always one of my favorites because of the innate swagger he had and minimal at best dialogue. Keeps citizens and even allies of Gotham guessing.

Keaton hysterically is actually more imposing as Batman than guys much larger than him (Kilmer, Bale, Affleck) simply by his menacing gaze, cadence of abrupt but mechanically direct movement and minimal dialogue.

As someone else said Michael Myers esque. Less is more.

I think I recall reading that Keaton would activity remove his own lines of dialogue in the Returns script, operating under the same mindset.
It doesn’t make sense for the character to be super talky ...

Mysterious, creepy, intimidating and imposing.

Same way blue and grey, or a little child in underwear and elf boots being put in harms way consistently doesn’t make sense psychologically or plausibly either.

If he's a detective in this movie you're gonna have to show him doing some explaining at a crime scene with Gordon or something tho

That someone else was me hehe.

Not necessarily. And he doesn’t have to be particularly wordy either. Especially if he’s the one solving it., That’s not to say he can’t or shouldn’t talk, it should just be extraordinarily minimal.

That's extremely limiting though.

I agree that for most scenes he should probably be very concise, especially when interacting with criminals and normal citizens.

However, when he's talking with Gordon, or Catwoman, or Alfred, I think he should talk more. Maybe even if you have a moment like the one at the end of TKJ of Batman offering help to a criminal or something.

Batman is a creature of the night, yes, but he's also a man, and on a movie that's meant to explore his point of view of the world, I feel we should see more of his humanity, and how complex he is in and out of the suit.

Batman explaining to Vicki Vale the Joker's method of poisoning products in Batman '89 is one of my favourite scenes in any of the movies for those exact reasons. It's hushed, curt and to the point. When she asks how he figured it all out, he simply waves a file at her and throws it onto the desk. Perfect.
