The BATSUIT Thread

To wear it straight before putting on the mask.

Imagine if Christian Bale took off his cowl and we got to see eye paint in the cave.

I know it’s probably not deliberate, but I still adore how the eye paint reminds me of Heath’s Joker. The best Batmen also could easily play The Joker.

Is it hyperbole to say this is one of the most well-acted moments of any Batman film ever?

Kinda wish that the cowl could be pushed back and rest on the back of his head, it looks like it's still a solid one-piece at the end of the trailer. Other than that this is definitely my new favorite suit :hrt:. I don't even care if it's gonna be upgraded or no. Upgrades often lead to inferior designs anyway (TDK batsuit, JL batsuit, BvS and JL supes suit, etc.). I'm scared of this perfect suit being ruined :funny:.

I do wonder what Reeves has in mind for future suits (if he's even thought that far ahead yet). He stressed that he wanted this suit to look like something that Bruce put together himself, and that it was still an early work in progress. The suit will evolve as Bruce continues to figure out what it means to be Batman. Fine-tuning the "Batman experiment," to paraphrase what Reeves said.

So will he continue to craft his own suit, or will Lucius Fox come into the fold at some point and offer his more sophisticated expertise? Will the suit always have this "put together" appearance, or will it ultimately evolve into something more streamlined and elegant?

I do hope they keep certain elements of the current suit like the collar and materials for cape and cowl, though. Maybe even the material for the current symbol. Just stuff to keep it still identifiable as the Matt Reeves Batman, in the same way that Neal Adams' Batman is immediately identifiable by the blue and grey suit with the oval and pellet belt, while the Hush batsuit is immediately identifiable via the black symbol and pouch belt instead.

The suit was ok. It could be better. I'm not sure about the mask and I didn't like the boots. I hope its just some earlier version of the suit.

Agreed - the collar, the symbol (although it looks like they will be adding the ears at some point maybe?) all seem very signature.

I like the idea that this is Batman in an experimental phase... I think it would be super cool if he's upgrading throughout the film. I love that his suit allows for a lot of freedom of movement, but it's an odd mix of function AND form. I would expect him to go all-in on one or the other.

My main problem is that it just doesn't look like that cowl is offering him any real protection - just persona. I don't get why he'd protect his torso and not his freaking head. I'm also not a fan of the antennae like ears (or the gigantic mouth opening), but I can forget about aesthetics. I can also forget about extreme realism - ie. a fully optimized suit that takes into account biometric security - but a thin leather mask that doesn't even offer the kind of protection an average motorcyclist would have? I don't think so.

It is, Matt confirmed it himself that the suit is handmade by Bruce, who's upgrading it as he goes along. Because he's only in year 2, he's not gotten too far in that.

I'd assume that's a part of the upgrading process. He hasn't fully achieved his balance yet on 100% protection and 100% intimidation factor, but given how hard he beat that guy up before saying the "I'm Vengeance" line, he's definitely emphasising the intimidation factor. It could be that he just hasn't been able to find a material that can protect his head thoroughly and look intimidating, so he went with the latter while just encouraging body shots via the grey suit and metallic symbol.

Small detail but I love the fact that we have gone back to an ankle length cape that doesn't touch the floor.

Yeah as much as I love the Nolan suits I always thought Batman would end up tripping over his cape on occasion. At the very least, that cape would have a lot of lint and other crap stuck to it be the end of the night.

After seeing it properly on screen, the only thing that irks me about it is the cowl - the mouth opening is too big. But I can appreciate it as an early version of the suit that Bruce would continue to tinker and improve upon. This is a very unformed Batman we're seeing.

I think the overall style will stay the same maybe just some slight refinements. Heck, Iron Man's suit in the MCU has changed but is still the same thing overall. I can barely tell the difference between the Spidey Suits from The Tobey Maguire films and the Andrew Garfield ones not to mention any differences within each.

The way he removes the cowl and holds it at the end of the trailer suggests it's a solid construction, not just leather. It would crumple in his hands if so, but it looks solid, like a helmet. So I'd say it's probably meant to be armoured under the leather.

I'm not opposed to Batman upgrading suits in the same film. Far be it for me to complain about getting two suits instead of one. I just don't give much credence to that leak. I seriously doubt that this guy would have had photos shown to him (much less have access to them), and this leak came just on the heels of the official reveal which received a mixed reception at best.

Sounds like fanboy wish fulfillment and not much else.
