Now ever since I've laid eyes on The Batman suit, I've always felt it looks a lot like the Arkham Origins suit. Am I alone in that?

As others have said many times, all experienced marksmen from military to cops to Secret Service are trained to aim for centre of mass (ie. Torso). In the heat of the moment and less than ideal conditions, headshots are incredibly risky given the smaller target.

When you aim for centre mass, even if you don't kill the person, there is a good chance you will stop them in their tracks and put them on their ass.

Based on the damaged condition of the Batsuit presumably after the gunfire scene, I wonder how much of it is the suit and how much might also be Bruce's adrenaline and basically just powering through like a meth head all super up on chemicals. Basically, his rage and adrenaline making him perform beyond normal limits... It fits with this characterization they are going for.

You are telling me that in that flash of confrontation, the gunmen can identify their target, identify that he is armoured everywhere except his lower face, and somehow line up a shot against Bats' face?

No, in those lighting conditions and high stress circumstances, training and muscle memory take over, and they aim for centre of mass. Every person who has even taken the most basic firearm self-defence class is taught to shoot for centre of mass.

Batman's exposed jaw will always be an issue of suspension of disbelief, but there is nothing that stretches that suspension anymore than the norm in that shot.

We don't know the story reasons for the sequence. This is a young Batman who doesn't have everything figured out inspired by Year One. He could have screwed up and they heard him when he was trying to make a stealth approach. It could be arrogance and adrenaline. I suspect he is on his way to rescue Riddler's hostage victims or something... The ones we seem to see him leading out of a pit with a flare (and wearing a very bullet damaged suit at that point). And the high stakes are probably why he is being especially reckless. Based on other shots of the damaged suit in the trailer, he clearly pays for the moment.

Him being in his second year is no argument cause he got the training to be a ninja. I think the reason is they just think it looks cool. Which is reasonable cause many think that way. I want to see more of the supposed se7en inspired thriller elements than pure action, more detective batman.

Lol his torso being bulletproof doesn’t make him superhuman or immortal. People are being so weird about that. That 5 second clip doesn’t negate stealth, shadowy **** or ninja like aspects.

I bet this is the scene where he realizes that charging headfirst into gunfire is stupid. He gets cocky after tanking single gunshots like the beginning of the trailer. Thought he could take heavier fire. Learns, with significant pain, that it doesn’t work like that.

If I have one nitpick about the suit it is the seeming lack of scallops on the cape, but overall this just might be my favorite bat-suit.

I think what I like most about the suit and the cowl is how nuts it makes Bruce seem, opposed to just looking as “cool” as possible.

Something about being able to see the stitching on the nose, and being able to see his eyes so clearly.

The only thing is that I hope that for the next film they change the nose on the cowl to make it pointy and they make the ears less antenna-like; fix those two issues and this cowl is perfect.

shot…Not because he WANTS to get shot. This scene just doesn't seem very "Batman" to me. It's like he's Superman, or Iron Man walking through a storm of bullets. That's not what Batman is about in my opinion.

But i mean its just one scene with no story context, we‘ll see.

having just seen Halloween Kills in theaters, it gave me an appreciation for this cowl. Especially with the bulletproof scene, in a way, this trailer sets up Batman as being almost a Michael Myers type figure and the blank expression mask adds to that majorly.

I think the ears are a lot better in these figures. The ones in the real suit look more like antennae.

Yeah, the talk about the functionality/point of the cape is interesting.

Honestly I kind of hope there is no point, beyond "I'm dressing up as a big honkin' bat". This guy seems like such a blunt-force bruiser, it's like...I do hope they at least touch on some of the theatricality aspects. Not as hard as Nolan's of course, and we don't want to go through the whole origin of bats scaring him as a kid yet again.

But some brief exposition on why the bat-motif would be nice, and the cape just being part of the "insane dude in all black wearing a ****ing cape of all things scares people, right?". Leave it at that.

I can't even remember what the deal was with the flying sequence and set pics though - was the conclusion that's some special upgrade or wing-suit thing? I'd actually be cool with the idea his regular suit can't glide, at least nowhere to the extent Bale's did. Maybe slowing his descent a tiny bit on shorter falls, but moreso this guy just uses the grapple to get around rather than borderline-flying.

If you look closely in the trailer the thug with the machine gun is clearly panicking, he barely even gets his gun up in time, let alone aiming a precise shot at Bruce's mouth.

All the same though, no body armor in existence is stopping an automatic weapon like that point-blank. Head, chest, doesn't matter - he's toast.

I don't care though, I can suspend disbelief for something like that. It's half the fun. Every action movie ever's full of ridiculous stuff, and given how stylized this seems to be it's a little easier to accept than if you were playing it entirely real-world straight.

Like, god, in a real situation with a guy doing what Batman does, any random mobster who's strapped is killing him like the third day on the beat. *Shrugs*

Yeah I mean, you do have to suspend disbelief as to why Batman doesn’t get shot in the mouth (or the head in general; there’s a line in The Dark Knight Returns about how he wears a target on his chest because he can’t armor his head). And really, it’s not that much of a stretch when you consider that soldiers and cops who face gunfire often don’t have bulletproof faceplates over their mouths.

Yeah. Personally the "wading through automatic gunfire" was my least-favorite part of the trailer, but in the scheme of things it's not "Batman's machine-gunning people from airplanes" or "Superman's dad telling him to let a bunch of kids drown".

Perspective, I'll deal with something this minor nitpick-y fine.
